Title: How could I have won this hand? Post by: EvilPie on March 28, 2008, 03:05:16 PM DTD Wednesday £25 + £5
Blinds are 100/200. I'm CL on the table with 16k (avg about 5k) having played very tight but hit some good flops that paid me off. I've just played a few extra hands but shown KK then AQ so I'm not exactly looking loose. I'm in mid position with Ad Tc and no pre action and decide to raise to 825. It folds round to BB who calls. Flop Qd Ts 5c. BB Checks, I think he's got none of it so shove (stupid I know!!) Anyway he thinks for a while, asks if I want a call then calls for his remaining 6k with Qh 3h which hold on and win. I know I was stupid to shove. It was a lazy move and a bit bullyish. I know it looks really weak so there's no need to tell me that. I got caught being stupid and that's that, fair enough. So how could I have played it to win the hand. He's obviously not going to be too happy about his kicker so there must be a way of winning this hand despite being behind. What would you do to try to win it and also what would it take to get any of you off this hand? I guess a lot wouldn't call it in the first place? One more thing. I didn't know at the time but found out afterwards that the guy was EPT winner Julian Thew so he knows what he's doing. He went on to win it anyway for another thousand quid to add to stash ;D Title: Re: How could I have won this hand? Post by: TheChipPrince on March 28, 2008, 03:07:56 PM Julian playing a £25?!
Title: Re: How could I have won this hand? Post by: Graham C on March 28, 2008, 03:12:40 PM Checking behind may have been best to see what comes on the turn to either give you more bluffing potential or perhaps a better hand. Obviously the better hand didn't come, but perhaps if a K comes you'd have more weight to the bet. Shoving wasn't the best move, No one shoves for 16k into a 2k pot with the best hand.
You can't win all the hands you play, giving up a few can also improve your image imo Julian playing a £25?! waiting for the cash to start? Title: Re: How could I have won this hand? Post by: EvilPie on March 28, 2008, 03:13:26 PM Julian playing a £25?! I know it's cheap but it's still quite a good little tournament. Perhaps he likes to hone his skills with as many live events as poss. I'm looking forward to playing him again. Hoping he doesn't remember me then I can try the weak shove again with a monster ;) Title: Re: How could I have won this hand? Like I said it was stupid and lazy and not the best plan against someone of his abilities. It was worth it to add another lesson to the many already learnt :) I didn't actually shove, I put in a nice pile of 1k chips to cover him and then smiled confidently. ;oopsy; Title: Re: How could I have won this hand? Post by: gatso on March 28, 2008, 09:19:38 PM normally I prob check behind and move on the turn.
however as it was against julie I just open fold to preserve chips. he's a luckbox and can read my soul Title: Re: How could I have won this hand? Whats wrong with a harrington gay bet here? 700 does the same thing as 6k. Title: Re: How could I have won this hand? Post by: Longy on March 29, 2008, 09:59:55 AM Less preflop,600 is fine here.
Oh dear at the flop why the hell would you shove 4 times the pot (effective) with any hand here. Just bet 1k max and play from there. You managed to demonstrate that you get called by every better hand and fold all worse hands. Q3, these 25 quid donks hey...........................................oh wait. Title: Re: How could I have won this hand? Post by: EvilPie on March 29, 2008, 07:16:19 PM Less preflop,600 is fine here. 600 wouldn't have isolated enough players. Going by previous table action there would be at least 2 more callers with a 3x raise. I probably would've got away cheaper with 3 callers but that's not the point. I've never done anything like it before at that stage of a tournament, it was just a silly impulse thing that went horribly wrong. It was just a cocky play by a fool with a big stack who thought the other guy had nothing and wanted to show people not to underestimate his raises. IT JUST WENT WRONG!!!!! The question was how to possibly win the hand. I'm sure that even though he had top pair I could've won the hand with my lesser offering because of his weak kicker. I'd guess he was hoping for 2 pair or maybe a flush so what he actually had should've been easy for him to get away from. But how?? Title: Re: How could I have won this hand?
