Title: Nice to be home .......
Post by: charmaine on November 02, 2005, 10:33:34 PM
Been in hospital with my 12 yr old , he decided to mess around after PE yesterday and broke two bones in his ankle  :(
After an awful day watching him in agony  where not even morphine helped with the pain they took him to theatre at 11pm last night.
So now back home , not been my week where  the kids are concerned .
Least i have a great hubby who can cope without me for a few nights , if need be  ;sex; to my gorgeous husband .

My three grand daughters, all under six, had to go into hospital on monday, one with a urine infection, one with asthma and the other with an unexplained high temp

Two are home again, one is still in having tests

Kids eh, who'd have em?

Thanks, I'm sure she'll be ok, and so will yours, you only have to get the broken ends of kids bones in the same room together and they will mend, makes you appreciate it when everything is ok though

OH Charmaine...poor you...i was there a couple of months ago. Got a call from the school, my 10yr old had a suspected broken arm, when I got there it was pretty obvious it was broken from the shape of it, I had a complete whitey and so nearly passed out. After hours of waiting in the hospital he too had to have an operation. Kiss him goodnight the doc said coz hes going to sleep...well I bawled my eyes out. It was the first time in 17yrs of being a mum anything bad had happened to any of my kids.
Reminds me of when I was a kid and went on a school trip to Austria skiing, 120 kids from Edinburgh went and one dopey cow broke her leg...yep me. My poor teacher DID pass out when they set the leg back in place hahaha. On arriving home they made me get out the coach first which was greeted with hoots of laughter from all the other parents. They did have the decency to lay on a hackney cab to take me home.  Getting in was no easy task with a full length stookey (plaster cast to you non scots) but getting out was very tricky, still with the help of the driver I managed, he even kindly took my bags out as I rested leaning against the side of the cab. Suddenly I felt a shooting pain up my arm...the doughnut had only slammed the door on my fingers...I couldnt speak I was in so much pain..."don't worry hen it will soon mend" he said...im trying to point with my other hand to tell him while trying deperately to hold on to my balance and hold my leg up at the same time hahaha...well i can laugh about it now.
Hope your boy is on the mend and your grandkiddies Red...isnt it great how they bounce back so quick. Sorry to hear that about your mum SJR and hopefully she will pull through.

Fingers crossed guys.

My eldest is at hossy this morning to hopefully get the all clear on his leg that he broke back in May.  No sport for 3 months was the constultants last words after Tim's cast had been taken off.  Apparently the break had gone through his growth plate and he has a 50/50 chance of the leg not growing properly in the next 3 years!

If he gets the all clear today, guess what he's doing on Sunday?  Jumping straight back on his motocross bike!!  God help me!

Red and Char - I hope the kiddies get better soon.

Wooohoooo he got the all clear.

Consultant said that if anything is going to go wrong we won't notice is for the next 18 months - 2 years anyway.. when we might notice his ankle has a nasty "lean", and then, worse case scenario, it's an operation to break it and reset it again.

The guy didn't even flinch when we asked if he could start racing again.  lol  But we had to admit to doing some light sport in the past 3 months due to him taking GCSE PE.

Racing season doesn't start again till April now, so fingers crossed that was my last visit to the fracture clinic this year.

Suzanne's story reminded me of a mate called Billy who started working in his Dad's butchers, beside his useless brother-in-law (called Skin).

One day, he was reaching into the counter for some meat, when Skin leans over him to get a knife, knocks it off the top - right onto Billy's finger - which ends up held on by the bone & a wee scrap of flesh.

Skin helps him wrap his hand up, closes the shop, gets his car & gets ready to take Billy to the hospital, even helping him into the car -  the slamming the door on the same finger - breaking the bone right at the cut  :D.

Billy couldn't go anywhere in the town for ages without getting 'Lucky White Heather!!' shouted at him (people from Scotland who watched Scotch & Wry at New Year will understand why).

I had the tip of my left hand index finger chopped off.......  This happened while i was working as a manager for Coral bookmakers in Luton.    It was a few years ago, and to change the date on the tills, you had to open the side and manually move a cog...... well I dont exactly know how, but the till made a noise as if accepting a bet, and my finger got caught in between 2 cogs and ripped the top of my finger clean off just below the nail bed. At first it felt like i had hit my finger with a hammer, so when i pulled it out, i waved it about (you know the way you do when you have hit it with a hammer) only to look down and see that my once white shirt was decorated with a generous amount of claret. when my boys were younger i used to tell them that i did it while wrestling crocodiles in australia, or a shark bit it off while i was scuba diving off the barrier reef .... Unfortunately they now know the truth, and when anyone asks how it happened, they gleefully reply .....

"Dad got his fingers caught in the till when he worked at the bookies".

"Dad got his fingers caught in the till when he worked at the bookies".

Ha Ha - bet you prefer that to your boy telling the story about you dressing in a wig & a skirt & getting him to take pictures of you  :D
