Title: Booking At The Rio Post by: snoopy1239 on April 01, 2008, 07:14:07 PM I'm staying at the Rio this year for the WSOP but was just wondering when I need to book by to ensure that I get a room. Do they run out? etc etc. I plan to stay for 3.5 weeks. Thx in advance.

Why do you want to stay at the Rio? How long is 3.5 weeks? Title: Re: Booking At The Rio Post by: snoopy1239 on April 01, 2008, 07:26:37 PM Are you working or playing this year Snoopy? Why do you want to stay at the Rio? How long is 3.5 weeks? I'm working. I want to stay at the Rio because it's close to where I'm working (ie. no taxi fares or long walks). 3.5 weeks is from 30th May to 22nd June. How many in yr party Thx Jim. I'd like to book on Expedia, but would not right at this moment, which is why I'm asking really. Don't want to come back in a fortnight and find that that that booking is no longer available. Just two in the party, Dana and myself, so one double. The rooms are nice but make sure that you get one in the tower that is closest to the cardroom (there are two) or you'll have an extra half-mile each way walk which can become tiresome, well it is for us mature folk anyhow. PS As soon as you get up go to The Palms for breakfast as it is only a $5 cab ride and the food is 5x better and half of the price Title: Re: Booking At The Rio Post by: I KNOW IT on April 01, 2008, 08:04:51 PM im in the rio this week. ill have a word with the card room manager and see if he can let me know if its filling up or not will you be booking direct with the Rio or thru Expedia or similar? Also they will be about 3 times the price of the Orleans which is a $ 8 cab ride away. How come your not staying at the Orleans this year Snoops? You could try the Gold Coast which is next door to the Rio if they are sold out, thats where a lot of players stay too Title: Re: Booking At The Rio Post by: redsimon on April 01, 2008, 08:05:44 PM Don't know if it runs during WSOP but when I was out In LV last month there was a free regular shuttle from Harrah's strip properties (Paris and Flamingo for sure) to Rio. Depends how much time you want to spend travelling.
Title: Re: Booking At The Rio Post by: snoopy1239 on April 01, 2008, 08:21:08 PM I'm not footing the bill, so, as long as I don't book the Wynn or Bellagio, I can stay where I want... within reason.
I've stayed in other casinos whilst working the World Series, and it's a pain in the ass in terms of commuting to the cardroom every day, so the Rio is the only choice for me. I'm just worried that the rooms will fill up pronto if I don't book my room in the next few days. Maybe it would be him paying if he booked it now. Hence the quandry. Title: Re: Booking At The Rio Post by: AlrightJack on April 03, 2008, 04:56:48 PM It takes just about the same length of time to walk from the WSOP convention centre to the Gold Coast as it does walking to the rooms in the Rio, so basically its the same as staying there in terms of commuting to work. At a third of the price of the Rio, it has to be worth considering.
Title: Re: Booking At The Rio Post by: danafish on April 03, 2008, 05:50:56 PM As I understand it, we have to pay for the hotel ourselves and then invoice the relevant parties afterwards. If we book through Expedia or similar, we have to pay the whole lot upfront before we go - obviously we'll get it back, but it's a massive amount of money to pay now without any hope of getting it back probably until July. I'm thinking if we can just book the room now we can get away with just paying some sort of smallish deposit now and paying the balance when we check out - it's still a bit awkward but I reckon we can successfully juggle our finances by then such that we'll be able to pay upon leaving... However if you book online with the Rio, they won't let you book for longer than a week or so. Is most frustrating. We can probably in theory get the money together to pay it upfront but it'll most likely take us a little while - hence the wondering if it's going to fill up soon... Any advice appreciated...

Title: Re: Booking At The Rio Post by: I KNOW IT on April 03, 2008, 06:03:00 PM Explain your problems to the relevant parties, maybe they will be willing to book it for you. The cost of the RIO during WSOP
will be expensive so its worth a try. I wouldnt leave it too late as I would expect it will be sold out Title: Re: Booking At The Rio Post by: Simon Galloway on April 03, 2008, 07:09:13 PM You will only be charged a deposit (equal to first nights rate+tax) and teh rest at the end, so not a lot of money being locked up. I'm sure your employer could stretch to it in advance, seeing as it saves them money...

Title: Re: Booking At The Rio Post by: snoopy1239 on April 10, 2008, 09:07:46 PM So all is booked and sorted now? No. Nightmare. We rang up, they kept us waiting for 20 minutes before telling us that we had to book through their member of staff responsible for media. They gave us an email. We emailed, and waited. They eventually responded, after some forwarding, and asked for our credit card details, etc. Then, they decide that we can't book a room until we apply for press credentials. We told them that we don't apply for press credential as we're PokerNews, ie. official live update team of the event. They don't seem to get it, even though it was confirmed to them by our boss. They're doing my head in, so I'm going to try and book via the phone tonight as a non-press person. I will scream if they say they can't fit us in. You wouldn't think I was trying to give them money. Sigh. Fk my life, as the kids say. Title: Re: Booking At The Rio Post by: 77dave on April 10, 2008, 09:19:20 PM If no good after tonight Snoopy sent me a PM and ill go in and see if i can get it all booked face to face might make it easier.
