Man U play Barca Who is going to win, and why? What should the bettor be looking for, value wise? Title: Re: The Champions League Semis Thread Post by: Karabiner on April 09, 2008, 11:45:21 PM Bollox, but i'm not bitter. :'(

manu v barca pairs up the 2 best in europe. barca have prob been no. 1 over the last year but I think utd's form has come at just the right time and they'll edge it. liverpool v chelsea gives us the team with the european pedigree against another team who've hit form at the right time. another tight one which I reckon liverpool will just edge, it's europe after all Title: Re: The Champions League Semis Thread Post by: Colchester Kev on April 10, 2008, 01:02:07 AM I got a semi when Gerrard tucked that Pen away ;)
Title: Re: The Champions League Semis Thread Post by: GlasgowBandit on April 10, 2008, 01:38:29 AM Barca v Manure has making of a great tie quite simply between them they have some of the best players in the world, as for the winner I think Barca just edge it in terms of quality but there defense is poor and can be exploited by the pace ans strength of Manures attack.
I fancy that both teams will win their home legs but its going to come down to who gets the most emphatic win. I predict Barca will be just too good over 2 legs. Although I do want to see a Man U v Liverpool final just to see how the Moscow cops deal with it :) Chelsea v Liverpool will IMO bee a dull and boring affair. Liverpool will go through over 2 legs. Title: Re: The Champions League Semis Thread Post by: Longy on April 10, 2008, 02:38:23 AM Man U vs Barca should be a belter and im looking to forward to this tie alot. I think Man U are favourites to progress for a number of reasons but Barca have the talent to beat any team in the world.
Man U are in good form playing as a team, solid at the back especially if Vidic is back and excellent going forward. Barca are ropey at the back, have injuries to key players especially Messi and there is alot friction at Barca at the mo, Rijkaard is under severe pressure and will be gone by start of next season either way. Man U to win by 1 or 2 in a high scoring affair over 2 legs imo. Liverpool vs Chelsea is going to be a pretty dour affair but I think Liverpool will sneak it especially given the history. Whatever the combination of teams making the final, the final will be a close affair imo. As it is bound to see a clash of styles between attacking and defensive styles. Title: Re: The Champions League Semis Thread Post by: mondatoo on April 10, 2008, 07:41:16 AM I think it will be chelsea v man u in final although id much prefer to see man u v lpool
Barcas defence is pretty poor and also puyol is suspended for the 1st leg i think man u will be 2 good for them and will win both legs maybe 1-o away and then finish job at home. I have a feeling its going to be chelsea turn this year(to make the final that is) mostly down to the 2nd leg being at the bridge but this will be a very close game and will possible come down to 1 bit of quality from 1 of the big players to determine it,maybe a 93rd minute wonder goal by stevie g to send liverpool through on away goals. Title: Re: The Champions League Semis Thread Post by: boldie on April 10, 2008, 08:47:15 AM Well they might be good games but they sure as hell didn't give me a semi.

They're not the same these days, the 'stars' are too lazy and they really aren't performing as they should be. On the other hand, Man U are (clenches teeth) are playing superb and they go into every game looking like they're going to win. You just don't get that with Barca atm. I'd go as far as to say it will be a one sided affair and Man U will win home and away.
Liverpool v Chelsea? I'd rather watch paint dry. Liverpool are cheats and don't deserve to be there and Chelsea are as dull as dishwater. Liverpool to edge it 1-0 at Anfield and 0-0 at Chelsea. OK OK, Liverpool to win, I think they'll do well at Anfield, it makes a difference playing there I think, but I expect the Stamford Bridge game to be pretty cagey with not much happening. Man U v Liverpool final - Man U are too good and will win by a goal or two. I just don't think Liverpool have enough at the top level to compete but I would rather see them win. I can see the second leg going to extra time.
Chelsea may well be affected by upcoming results in the Premiership title race. If they are still in with a shout of becoming champions this may just give Liverpool the edge. A dodgy penalty or a sending off will influence the outcome. Man Utd v Liverpool final. Title: Re: The Champions League Semis Thread Post by: fergus8 on April 11, 2008, 04:12:22 PM one point i heard is that barcelona almost never play any game not as favourites, this should hurt thier egos.
i cant wait, i think this is clearly the best two sides in europe on thier day listen to this: the class acts rooney messi ronaldo ronaldinho scholes etoo giggs xavi tevez henry anderson bojan ferdinand puyol vidic milito evra abidal hargreaves zambrotta nani thuram vandersar deco carrick gudjohnsen the match losers: valdez brown Title: Re: The Champions League Semis Thread Post by: gatso on April 11, 2008, 05:18:17 PM the class acts rooney messi ronaldo ronaldinho scholes etoo giggs xavi tevez henry anderson bojan ferdinand puyol vidic milito evra abidal hargreaves zambrotta nani thuram vandersar deco carrick gudjohnsen that is one hell of a lineup, not often you'll ever get to see that much talent in one match, such a shame it's not the final Title: Re: The Champions League Semis Thread Post by: fergus8 on April 11, 2008, 05:19:30 PM well we get 2 games instead of one

looking forward to watching both of them nevertheless Title: Re: The Champions League Semis Thread Post by: Geo the Sarge on April 11, 2008, 05:44:14 PM Over the 2 legs I predict:
Man Utd to win by 2 or 3 goals Liverpool to win by 4+ goals Only my opinion. I feel that Man utd are bang in form in all areas of the pitch. Barca's defense will not cope with Rooney/Ronaldo & co. Liverpool have a tremendous set up for the 2 leg affairs of CL and I believe that as much as Chelsea have gotten the results recently, they have not really played that well. Man utd to win in Moscow as it is a one game affair but will be close. A totally unbiased view from a Jock who loves the Premier league. Geo Title: Re: The Champions League Semis Thread Post by: Rooky9 on April 11, 2008, 05:46:00 PM If Man U have a fully fit Ferdinand and Vidic for the games then this is Man U's game for the taking. They are better defensively and more cutting going forward. Can't ask for much more.

Bold predictions Geo, Liverpool v Chelsea will be IMO a very dull game, I think both managers will be happy to sneak a 1- 0 win. We know Rafa will aim to keep it compact and not concede and try and spike one on the accounter, on the other hand I think Grant will do the same thing.
To say Man U will win the tie by 2 - 3 goals again this is fantasy, Man U are a fantastic team and so too are Barca, if all the big game players turn up this will be one hell of a battle and if it comes down to best players then Barca win, unfortunately Barca haven't fired on all cyllinders this season and for that reason I think Man U will sneak through but I don't think there will be a 3 goal margin. Only my opinion mate, based on the matches I have watched this year (and I haven't missed many)...........mind you maybe it's the effects of signing up to the Bandit school of punditry ;) Let's wait and see. Edit: Having watched the poor performance by Rangers last night and still getting a 2 goal win, I think a 2-3 goal margin for Man Utd is not unrealistic Geo. Title: Re: The Champions League Semis Thread Post by: The Baron on April 11, 2008, 08:31:14 PM It is very tough to see past Man U this season I admit but here's where my hopes lie:
1) Ferguson's inability to go to places and get a result by not being on the front foot every 3 seconds. It's all well and good saying "yeah but we're United and we play to attack" but that's why you've won one European Cup in 21 years when you should have won at least three. 2) Ferdinand and Vidic are injured at the same time as they were last season and we saw how Man U's back up centre halves did against world class players. These players are esential to win. 3) Lionel Messi. As for the other semi I have a sneaking suspicion the second leg being at Chelsea may swing it in their favour. Man U to win the final unless Liverpool make it, then it becomes a derby and anything can happen. |
