He should be, he is better than Gerrard ;)

Sounds about right. Gerrard hasn't been hi inspiring self at all this season. Adebayor had a good start and now can't find the net if his life depends on it..Fabregas, like the rest of Arsenal, has crumbled...so the rest in that order seems about right.

If the vote takes place about now then I'd go for:
1. Ronaldo
2. Torres
3. Gerrard

If the vote was earlier in the year I wouldnt be suprised to see Fabregas in third instead of Gerrard.

I agree with the OP, the others have all either started well and faded, or didn't start well and have since done something ok.  I think James will get 3rd, he's made quite a comeback this season and has been consistent all through.

Fabregas will be in the top 3 without question if the voting was done pre-feb...

As such, i'd be surprised if Torres was in the top 3, he's come good since Feb in the main...

Torres has been excellent all season probably the best 1st season had by a foreigner in the prem.If it wasnt for rafa's constant rotation he'd have done even better.They lads world class and has taken some of the pressure of gerrard liverpool are now just a couple of players short of title challengers (if them players played every game there available for)

That seems a little harsh on Adebayor, he did score in two of the three games against liverpoo.

I don't understand what the point in having a 2nd or 3rd in these things are.  Your either the PoTY or not.

Thirded, however I am surprised not to see Kuyt on the list. I think the lad has been tremendous. I think bought as a striker (Kin will clarify I'm sure) however I have seen very few players in the Priemiership work as hard or cover as much ground as this guy. Certainly no slouch and has great skill about him. A fantastic team player

I kinda agree with this.  Similar to why Neil Lennon never really won PoTY in Scotland, these awards dont tend to go to the best team players or the guys who do the most for the team they go to the guys who generally have sheer brilliance and can change matches.

Who was the last workman like player you remember getting an award like this?

very true mate, I actually liked Lennon, no great skill in my opinion but would give his all, a great spoiler. Someone mentioned Savage earlier which was funny, however for a couple of years he done a great job at what he was asked to do, similar to Lennon, even if it was to run around like a headless chicken.

Never said player of the year, Ronaldo has no opposition there. Just feel Kuyt contributed as much to his team as most of the others mentioned.

I wouldn't lump Keane in with the "workman like" players he was probably the best box to box player of his generation.  Keane could pass, tackle, score, win the ball and he could galvanise others.

I'd say big JT was a worker.  Has he won PoTY?

I agree on Keane, it's just that the 2 of them were the closest we've had. every other player that's won the award has either been a proper flair player like you say or an out and out striker until we get all the way back to Shilton

You'd be surprised how little Torres was rested when fit to play. It's not half as much as the media would make out.

Up until February it was a close race between Adebayor and Ronaldo. Unfortunately for Arsenal, Adebayor's form has been poor in recently weeks and that has coincided with Arsenal's collapse; Ronaldo's amazing form and also Torres prolific goalscoring run.

So therefore:

Ronaldo - 1st

Torres - 2nd

Adebayor - 3rd.

I'm surprised that Gerrard is there and not Robbie Keane? Not that I particularly rate Keane, and obv Gerrard is a world class midfielder, but I read that Keane is 2nd to Ronaldo for EPL goals scored in the last 12months...

David James showed tonight why him being England's best keeper says more about the standard of English keepers than his ability.

I think James has had a decent season, but surely in there because of the relative increase in his performance compared to his own in the past, rather than measuring against other keepers in the league.
