Title: Prizefighter Boxing
Post by: scotty2hatty on April 11, 2008, 09:44:23 PM
Anyone watching?  Should be fairly interesting.

Both fighters in the first fight don't look up to much but Ferguson looks like he will finish this.

Very enjoyable show tonight with the favourite David Dolan (Commonwealth Gold Medallist) losing to Irishman Martin Rogan in the final.

Hope they have more like this.

Roll on Cotto v. Gomez tomorrow.  Benn following Gomez since his 'Contender' days - this will be super tough for him though.

Was on Sky Sports 1.

And the Cotto/Gomez fight is on Sunday 3am on same channel.

The boxing equivalent of banded racing but it was actually entertaining.

Cotto beats up Gomez.  Just need to get Mayweather into the ring with him next.

Woods v Tarver in the early hours Sunday morning as well.  They seem to genuinely dislike each other.

Hopefully they don't clash. I cant call this fight at all, I'm not a huge fan of either boxer but would be nice to see Woods win as he seems a decent bloke.

Then we have the big one next week to look forward to Calzaghe v Hopkins :)

Suprised you weren't on it given your martial arts skills.

my 'martial arts skills' don't involve putting pillows on my hands and fighting within rules.
I'm a combat sports viewer and a self protection martial arts practitioner.
very different things.

Cotto destroys Gomez in a complete mismatch.   They need to make a fight with Cotto and Mayweather to happen although I suspect Mayweather will try and avoid it.  Cotto gets better and better and looks twice the fighter at 147 than he did at 140.

Woods totally outclassed as well.

Hmm. It was fairly obvious that the result would be on a thread that had already mentioneed the fight.

I havent seen much of Woods, other than last night, although facing a difficult opponent I just thought he looked like a very average boxer. Hopefully not an indication for next week's fight.

To be honest I think thats all Woods is he struck me as just being happy to be there and lacked any real belief that he could win, Tarver was impressive but Woods made it easy for him.  Next week is a different kettle of fish though as Calzaghe is different gravy.  Calzaghe on points at anything close to evens is a great price.  His fast hands and workrate will be too much for Hopkins who will be made to fight at a pace he won't like.
