Having played now for a good few years through good spells and bad (many bad spells!) I have never before struggled with motivation to play. Even on horrible downsiwngs I still come back the following day fully refreshed and ready to do battle again.
However over the last few weeks I am just struggling to get motivated to play. I am not even on a bad run, I just dont seem to have the enthusiasm at the moment. Its not a case of having any thoughts of wanting to quit or anything I just dont quite know what to do.

I just wondered if any of you have been through a simllar spell?

The game just seems to be boring me at the moment!

Am I ill?????????

take a break

thats the only advise i can give..i had an awfull november,december and january and lost any thrill i had for the game.
i do recall one time standing outside dtd SCREAMING im never playing this stupid game again,lol

i took 2 weeks off and felt fresh again when i came back..since then i have had the best few months ever for me.now whenever im feeling anoyed with how ive played or just not feeling like playing i just dont.

Happend to me, was playing pretty much part time for 3 years and then all of a sudden lost motivation and just played the odd home game here and there.  No real reason for it whatsoever.

Two years later I caught the bug again.  All I can so is just don't try to analyze it, just go with it (unless it's your living in which case just take a short break).

In the latter half of 2007 i did very well in poker, so at the start of 2008 i took a break, went on a few holidays etc the problem is since then i just cant get back into poker. This is obviously a slight problem when you play full time!

Have to say I'm feeling very similar myself at the moment.  I had a very bad run between Nov and Feb but it did pick up for a little while but that hasn't lasted long.  Although I don't like losing I've become too indifferent and even used to it and I don't look forward to play at all at the moment.  When I do play I just drag myself to the computer or down to my local casino because I just don't have the motivation to get up off my bum and make the effort.  I fully intend to take a break at some point, but it's difficult because I do play full time and I won't really know what to do with myself!  But yeah, take a break is probably the best thing you can do.

Take a break for a month then sat into wsop that'll get u revving again m8  :)up

ill  no    older+wiser   perhaps.

currently on a   2month break, my first in 8 years.

if it comes back , all well and good,
if not   enjoy what life has to offer.

This is probably similar to my situation. This current mood isnt down to a run of badb beats, i just cant be arsed ! Got married in March and had a 3 week honeymoon (shameless brag) and since then just cant be bothered to sit at cash tables for hours on end !

I am sure it will come back. WTF else am I going to do otherwise LoL !!!

Maybe a switch to tourns for a while to try and get the buzz again as cash play is bl00dy boring !!!

interesting thread I think - i regularly take longish breaks from online and only average out as maybe once a month live. as a hobby player that's fine.

When I come back I normally play quite well, spin a coupla hundred up to a coupla thou, then start getting bored, decide to try and spin it up even faster, donk it off then quit for a while again.

If I stuck to a few key MTT's a week I think I'd maintain a real enjoyment of the online game and that's what I thiink i'll try to do

Maybe your mind is on the important things in life Alex, like your new wife and wedding pictures? lol  I would take a break if you can pull yourself away and the craving will likely return:)

Play something new, like PLO or Stud. A change is as good as a rest, be the fish for a while and learn the ropes at HORSE or someink.

Agreed. It's got me inspired again and it's improved my hold em game.

Actually had some sick sessions of late, dropped right down to 1-2 and decided to just play super lag. My last 600 hands or so i am up 13 buyins!

Could this be a turn for the better?

Prob not.....lol still can't play for more than 90 mins at a time.

I'm going through this at the moment but with golf, not poker. I am still technically a golf professional  but have absolutely no desire to play. Even watching the Masters is leaving me cold. I've even got myself another job!

The only answer is to take a break. Only come back if you really start to miss it. Don't beat yourself up about it - everything is as it is for a reason!

You actually just sound like you have poker in the proper perspective.

I must admit i'm also feeling like this at the moment i love playing poker and always will i believe but just nothings going right at the moment.Think i may stop playing holdem altogther 4 a few weeks like a couple of u r suggesting may start playing omaha hilo a really like the game.When i'm playing holdem sngs i find myself just fannying around on the web(not including blonde as fannying around of course).Maybe it would help if i start multi tabling as i only play 1 table at a time i may try playing 4 very low stake sngs at same time and see how i manage with it.GL with refinding your passion for the game m8.

The situation continues.... just not enjoying the game lately.

I have been playing for badbeat for just coming up to a year and the constant cash grind is not for me. I fell in love with the game because of tournaments and hardly play any these days.

I am going to quit badbeat and try and get my game back together. That has fallen apart too now after this shitty period.

I played 30k hands in 2 weeks and now that I hit the sickest downswing ever and giving back half of what I earned in a few k hands I really can't be arsed any more.
I'm getting very drunk this weekend to forget about it because I was getting very bored of having set over set!
