Hello folks - I'm a new member and just wanted to get some views on a hand I played at the Irish Open last month, as I've been mulling it through and opinion seems pretty divided from the people I have discussed it with.  I was still on about average chips after this hand, but it put me on tilt and effectively sent me spiralling out of the tournament.  Constructive criticism welcomed of course:


It's early day 2 - I am chip leader on my table with 59k.  The other stacks range from 35k to 8k, so I am looking to pick off short stacks with decent hands, and also put a bit of pressure on the stacks in the 25k-35k range.

Blinds are 300-600 with a running ante of 50 (I think).  Early position raiser with stack of 35k makes it 1800. 

I find  Qd Qc and raise it up to 6000.  All fold to the initial raiser who calls (this is a reasonably well known, experienced, successful player).

Flop is  2d 6d Tc

Checked to me, so I bet 12k, hoping to take the pot down.

Opponent shoves for 17k more.  I figure I am probably beat here.  I think he re-raises pre flop with AA/KK given his stack size.  I think there is enough chance he has JJ or AdKd here to justify the call of 17k given the size of the pot, but I am expecting to be shown a set of tens. 

I call and he shows  6s 6h for the set and I am down to 24k in chips and, despite going for a cigarette to calm down, I then start playing like a donkey.

Questions:
1) Does anyone fold for the 17k, given that I would still be left with 41k in chips and well above average?
2) Is my bet on the flop too big?
3) Pre-flop re-raise correct size?
4) What do you think of his call of the re-raise pre-flop with 66 given his stack size?

Generally speaking, dont think you did anything wrong.

1) I dont think you can fold to the reraise. Plenty of hands check raise all in here that you beat, including a flush draw. He could of course have KK-AA or a set of tens, but prob would have reraised you all in pre (experienced player though, so he may have flatted preflop)
2) I would say it was a little too big, just because there are plenty of hands you beat would have called you.
3) Pre flop reraise seems fine
4) Awful call, calls off nearly 20% of his stack and he must have known he needed to hit a 6, thinking you might have had AK doesnt justify the call either. Unless he had some super mega read on you then this was awful. Even if you are reraising every pot leading up to this and he was taking a stand, I dont think sixes were the hand to do it.

I think you played it well and ran into a donkey, who was it?

1) your too far in to fold.
2) you want worse hands to have room to bluff this spot, i like 8-9k
3) i like the preflop reraise
4) hate his call, not getting the implied odds and is oop, therefore check/folding 95% of flops

Yeah - I just couldn't get my head round his call pre-flop, as he would still have 33k if he passes and there were lots of 8k-15k stacks at our table.  It was about 3rd hand of the day so he had no read on me.  It was John Kabbajj - to be fair he seemed to play pretty well during the tournament as a whole (was favourite to win it at the start of day3).

not a misclick just an overrated live player.

this is a pretty good example of how not to play 66 in early position. UL OP, not a lot u can do here.

Maybe he decided to take some early gamble to get a stack or get in a PLO game with 8 Irish players.......
