Title: Mucking hands in live tourney
Post by: donerkebab on April 15, 2008, 05:44:13 PM
Searching thru old posts I see the general consensus is if hands are checked down then generally both hands are shown face up.

However I was betting out on flop/turn /river then reraised on river and called. I knew it was standard pair aces but outkicked - he shows the A K - I say you got it better kicker.  I muck my cards. He then demands dealer shows my cards. Is this allowed / considered bad etiquette? (Non DTD venue)

Yeah any showdown your oppo can ask to see your cards.

What do you mean by non DTD venue?

It's considered fairly ungentlemanly to ask to see the player's dead, losing hand, but if asked to show I would do so immediately without any of the histrionics displayed by Hachem.  No one's too important to be excluded from rules.  He lost it big time, provoked, to be sure, but I reckon poker players can only benefit from learning some self-control.

Yes, but I suspect there isn't much to be achieved by bringing the concept of self-control into discussions about enormous ego freaks. Some people just like to make a lot of noise at the tables.

it is bad etiquette to request a hand to be tabled in cash games simply because u just took his money!!
I personally think that anyone at the table should be able to request to see the any hand at showdown. If we are serious about playing poker then any minor bit of information is important and i certainly dont want to pass any chance to gain info. On the other hand people can argue that good players dont want to show other people how their playing and dont like the showing rule...they think they can obtain these information some other ways...which is fair enough.
I remember playing at the Vic and had an argument with the supervisor...their rule is only players that were active in the hand can request.
In DTD, the last aggressor shows first...if no one bet the river then left of button shows first. But if the other person shows first, the other can muck.
So in DTD the obvious question is what if people are colluding?
well...if u suspect anyone colluding, i think the best thing to do is find the supervisor and ask him to tell the dealers to table all their hands! that way, there will be no argument on the table and no one will know you suspect them of collusion. WIN WIN :D
