Sick of missing stuff and want to upgrade.. im out of any contract with sky and was wondering if anyone has any idea the best offer I can get? If anyone has done it recently let me know.

I'm contemplating phoning up to cancel to see if they will offer me it on the cheap.. dont want it to backfire though.

Ring em up, listen to all the options and only select the "If you want to cancel your subscription" one.

Be convincing. Don't say "I think I want to cancel" or "I want x & y or I will cancel" Just say "I WANT TO CANCEL"

Let them persuade you to stay.

If they call your bluff, fire another bullet. say "Thank you, when will I receive my final bill?"

I guess i can always change my mind or just re-order it under the wifes name if it all goes tango uniform..

I am also desperate to get sky plus and this has given me an idea!!

Doing some research at the mo, and Virgin are offering a similar package to what i have BUT with their version of sky plus! only prob is that they charge a £150 installation fee - so going to pretend that has been discounted or waivered because I'm a sky customer!

so next step is to call sky and feed them the story, I'll let you know how i get on!

Err so anyone any advice on what to do now let the contract run out and reapply OR phone up and say i dont really want to cancel..

Can you not get it set up in the missus' name like you mentioned earlier?  What are their 'rules' on people who've cancelled reapplying?  I'm sure they'd be happy for the business.


There is a moral to the story though.  They didn't buy the continuation bet, and firing the second bullet on the turn didn't seem to work either.  Don't try and bluff a calling station (call centre).

my sister got a free sky+ box from them the other day.  she just said she was going to go with virgin as they were giving her a digital recording box for signing up. bit late to try that now i suppose. 

yeah the old "there's nothing on the telly" thing doesn't work as Sky knows ussually people who cancel  for that reason will be back.

I realised that half way through it, but thought sod it I've typed this much I might as well post it.

i wonder if this is the best time of year to cancel with the football season just about to end, i imagine a lot of people must try this round about this time of year ,cacel hoping for a reduction with the intention of getting sky back on again in aug if they dont get a reduction

Whee Update - decided to phone again today as i really fancy sky+

I didnt get it for free but was happy for the box + install for £49.. was basically just mr annoying customer and it worked hurray!

This is totally true some other them aren't interested and some go over the top to try to give u good deals although you've sorted it now i would say if  ask for stuff and they say no just hang up and ring back gud chance 2nd person will do it.

stay strong,even if they accept your cancellation(as long as your on one of the bigger packages)they will fold and ring you back and give you what you want

I have it all planned.

Im doing the blckmail, reverse psychology, strong willed thing of asking for a free upgrade on Tuesday, when thanks to the Queen and the civil service, I get an extra bank holiday.
