Brandi Rose Hawbaker Author: Simon Dexter Some sad news arrived this week as we heard of the untimely death of poker cult Brandi Rose Hawbaker at the age of just 26. She was found last Sunday in Los Angeles; an autopsy concluded the cause of death as suicide. Anyone who saw the gregarious Hawbaker play could not fail to be impressed by her gregarious personality and composed manner at the table. Her adventures and stunning good looks ensured she was one of America’s most talked about poker personalities. Within a short period of arriving on the poker scene, she had online fan clubs, dominated poker forums and several blogs covered her every move. Indeed, she was not averse to posting her own comments and stories on several poker forums if she felt a comment had been derogatory, a trait which endeared her to her army of fans. But life had not been easy and according to a former boyfriend, she suffered from “ a very serious and untreatable mental illness” which caused her to visit several doctors over the past eighteen months, sadly to no avail.
