Its 8.30 pm and Im not feeling very well so I decide to take myself off to bed. I lie there tossing and turning then finally give up, im feeling worse by the minute so decide to make a milky drink.
 
I sit watching telly sipping my drink when suddenly I feel nausious, I run to the toilet and just make it. I am sitting on the cold lino floor wishing I had listened to my mother, I had been feeling ill for a few days now, she wanted me to go stay with her but I said no I will be okay. The pains in my stomach are now getting worse and I start to panic, I realise that I need to get to hospital and I dont have a phone.
 
"Pull yourself together" I think to myself. All I have to do is get to the main road and I can flag down a taxi. I get dressed inbetween the pains, I grab a bag with a few essentials and head toward the main road. It seems like miles away and the street is deserted.

I wait for the pain to subside and then walk as fast as I can towards the lights. No one is around and I look at my watch, its 11.45pm. I reach the main road just as another pain begins to grip me, at least someone will find me if I pass out im thinking although looking up and down the road and there is not a soul in sight.

The pain starts to ease off and I see a taxi approaching with its lights on. I take a deep breath and head towards the kerb with my hand held out.
 
I climb into the back of the taxi before he can see how ill I am because I am worried that he might refuses to take me.
 
He looks in his rear mirror and I can see hes not happy. "Simpsons Maternity Hospital please" I said. He turns around and looks at me for what seemed like ages..."Do I need to put my foot down?" he asks. "Yes please" I said...and he did.

That was 20 years ago to the day, to the hour and my first born came into the world at 7.26am.

I remember it all like it was yesterday. I cant believe it was 20 years ago...where did all those years go!!

WOW!  In fairness, that was a sweet 'happy birthday' and must be acknowledged.  Hope the 'small man' has a brilliant day!!!!

Its just hard to believe he is now 20 and 6ft+

Over due (16 years ago to the day) with the first of 3.  At a house party...as ya would be.  Hostess is a nurse in the maternity ward of big NYC hospital...as she would be.  Go into 'labour' during said party...as ya would do.  Lads do the criss cross 'Beatles' walk whilst singing 'It's the end of the world as we know it.'  Following that...likely hood of ANYONE taking us serious...zero to sweet feck all.  Baby born 90 minutes later.  No drugs because they though it was a joke.  Thanks very much.  GG, WP, FML
