Title: Accrington v Bury last weekend.
Post by: bobby1 on May 05, 2008, 02:31:15 PM
Rearrange into a sentence.

probably bent the most in football match English  league for years.

looks like someone got the end of season holiday paid for and more.

BURY backed from 11/5 to odds on and most firms ended up taking the match down. the FA were informed on Friday that the match was very suspect and actually changed the ref and linesmen that should have been in charge.

Talked to a few people working for the firms and the amounts punters were trying to get on were crazy in relation to the amounts normally punted on a game in that league.

Whoever 'arranged' this clearly had no idea how to bet on a bad game without arousing suspicion and did all the wrong things making it clear that this was a bent heat.

Couldn't matter less!!

As long as whoever it was that was involved cant be directly linked with any placed bet

unless anythings ever proven all the irregular betting patterns and "suspicion" isnt gonna make any difference to all the boys that got paid!

gotta say, bookmakers getting turned over like this, LAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRVE IT!!

That depends on 2 things Bolt. If it was got at by outsiders then you might be right but obviously some of  the players must have been in on it. If it was people connected to the clubs that arranged the match then it could lead to some serious repercussions.

Swindon got done when the Chairman bet against his own team and there wasnt any suspicion that it was bent, he claimed he was covering the expenses.

You would amazed at how daft people that dont normally bet can be when betting on bad games, when I did footy for Hills we had a 2nd division player openly ring up and try to have 50k on the opposition in an LDV trophy match, he even wanted to bet by debit card irrespective of the paper trail.

There was a non league game 2 weeks ago between Redditch and Barrow that had some very iffy punting going on too, when a guy that is listed as an official at one of the clubs is trying to get 10k bets on in his own name then its clear that these people don't understand that they can easily be found out.

result Redditch 0 Barrow 5, punt landed.

That might be true but could also be a reason put forward to hide the guilt.

lol, those examples made me laugh.

I'm not saying they dont have the potential to get caught and i'm sure every bookmaker in the country KNOWS this mob have got at it but the money must've got on before they completely clocked if it went from 11/5 to tips on to N/O and barring any ridiculous type errors like the examples you give then the only time you'll hear anymore about it is at the annual bookmakers country club Christmas do where they'll still be banging on about it!

but this is different, one or two people in the know having bets against their own team is bad but this seems to be a ham fisted attempt to bet a bad match. If it had been fixed by outsiders the money would have been widespread and in diff areas, in this case most of the punting was done in the north east shops which could point the finger at the club/team that were at it.

Obviously some of that money would be from 'followonners' that have noted the price falling but for a match in the English pro leagues to be suspended when everyone seemed to know the result is a terrible situation for football really. In Italy or other leagues its 10 a penny but there doesnt seem to be a case as bad as this in England since the 60's and that was just a handful of players that were in on it.

We took the betting down on Friday after a couple of big bets but nothing huge.

It was funny the amount of people that rang up asking for it after wed taken it down tho.

So it could have been something dodgy, or maybe the Accrington manager announced he was gona play a very very reserve team or under 18 team or summat, i duno.

Which firm do you work for mate?

Those would deffo be reasons for a punt to develop but the Accrington team had 8 players in it that took part in their last match.

Pretty sure Horneris works for Skybet.

Two major firms have refused to pay out on bets placed on Bury instead they are waiting for the FA and the gambling commision to investigate. This is unheard of, even on those dodgy end of season matches that Italian footy throws up every year the punters get paid so this  appers to be a very serious case.

i hate it when coups go sour, but the morons who are involved have no clue about gambling tact and deserve to get stung imho. + anyone who had their bets in shops seriously need looking at.

Ita tricky one for sure, Im in the camp of a bet is  a bet tho. The firms that have refused to pay have had the info that all other firms have and continued to trade it at a price that allows for the fact that there may be something underhand going on. If they didnt want to pay out after the result was known then they shouldnt have been taking bets in the first place.

Now that doesnt alter the fact that a high level English football match has been so ham fistedly got at and some serious punishments could be in order if as it seems the clubs (might) be involved in a betting scam.

It isnt stretching the imagination to say that two local clubs that needed money have decided to make some thru arranging a result.

would be very interesting to see how much was matched with all firms.

Im in the camp of a bet is  a bet tho.

Exactly, ty!

If it had been 2-0 the other and gamble beaten would they have reimbursed punters their money? now they're crying and not paying out, mugs.

Bookmakers are pissing me off lately, look at paddy power, pay'd out on boris becoming mayor early the doughnuts in the media love it, lets get paddy power on the program, paddy power loving it!!! you cant buy that publicity, national tv, prime time.

If i was the interviewer i'd of said: "and can you just confirm for us what your liability on Boris was"?

Then when he didnt answer id of said: "you not answering cos it's about £60 probably you bookmaker scum prick"!! then i'd bash him over the head with microphone on live t.v, then i'd turn around, look at kaplinsky in the studio and say:"and what bitch? thats how i roll"!

lol, now that would be worth seeing.

You make a good point tho its free publicity on a minor market and holding funds from punters on another market that they had chosen to keep betting on even when the signs were that this game wasnt str8. If Accrington win they keep it and if Bury win, well they keep it aswell with the chance to void the bets at a later date.

The same thing happened on Sat with 3 games in IFA 'Northern Ireland league' who had 'nothing to play for, end of season games'.  A old friend of mine who played a few games in the league for x got a call from an ex collegue telling him to do the 3 teams Armagh v Glenavon, Donegal Celtic, and x.     They went traveling to a few bookies on Sat morning and ended up a few 20k richer.  was a nice treble as well.

When I worked for non league side Colne Dynamoes, we had a midwek league game away to Hyde a few days before an FA Vase semi final against Barrow ... Now I knew that we were putting 9 reserves in and we would be seriously thumped by a decent enough side ... Thing is we were miles clear in the league and the bookies had us as odds on favs ... what did i do ??  Well I got my arse down the bookies quicker than Linford Christie on speed and lumped every penny I could get hold of on Hyde to win ... Hyde Half time/Full time ... we lost 5-1 and I made a months wages in one night. The bookie knew I worked for the club, and gave me some right grief when paying me out, but pay me out he did.

Things like this go on week in week out and although it wasnt on a scale of the Accy/Bury game ... Insider information is rife in any sport where gambling is involved, bookies need to quit crying and pay up.

It was the same with a certain famous cricketer who now play`s poker ,(no names ) .
it was his last match before his retirement ,and his team had put a reserve side out ,every one of the team had a small fortune on at big prices ,
when they did an investigation he took the rap for the whole team as he was`nt going to play no more .
they took about 500k of the bookies ,good on em.
