my daughter has come out with chicken pox today and i was wondering if anyone knows how contagious they are

i have someone staying here at the weekend and he has never had them..my daughter wont be here but i need to know if there is a chance he can still catch them

any advise please

You'd better check with a doctor, but I'm pretty sure that if your daughter's not there then your visitor won't be at risk as long as they don't use the same towels or bedsheets, etc., that your daughter has used.

    * A rash that usually begins on the body and face and later often spreads to the scalp and limbs.

    * It may also spread to the mucous membranes especially in the mouth and on the genitals.

    * The rash is often itchy.

    * It begins as small red spots which develop into blisters in a couple of hours.

    * After one or two days, the blisters turn into scabs.

    * New blisters may appear after three to six days.

    * The number of blisters differs greatly from one person to another.

    * The infected person may run a temperature.

    * These symptoms are mild in young children.

    * Chickenpox lasts 7 to 10 days in children and longer in adults.

    * Adults can feel very ill and take longer to recover. They are also more likely than children to suffer complications.

Normally once all the spots have appeared then you are no longer contagious i believe. got them 6 years ago for the first time, felt like the worst hangover ever followed the worst acne ever. Nice.

Hope she feels better soon,usually once the spots come out she will start to feel abit better,apart from the itching!
Socks on hands at night is a good one,they do scar terrible if she starts to scratch at them.
