Title: Am I being too weak here? Post by: Wannabe on May 06, 2008, 09:37:53 PM Hand I just played - basically had no information on Jans77. He had not been in many hands and I just find at these limits (the only ones I know, and I have not played for long) re-raises are usually at least KK. Just want to check with some more experienced players as this does feel weak.

Post by: mondatoo on May 06, 2008, 10:37:08 PM Due to you having no infomation on this player then u have to open up his range a bit more than just aa or kk.He could easily have lower pair than yours and he is happy with the flop or he could have ak aq
Why did you call the raise pre to then fold to this flop??? If i was in this spot i'd probably roughly pot bet it as he may check behind you and if he is playing a big ace you're letting him hit for free.If he then re raises you i'd reevaluate but unless i had very strong read on him i'd probably shove and curse him when he shows his bigger pair. Title: Re: Am I being too weak here? Post by: Longy on May 07, 2008, 03:26:09 AM I don't mind preflop but calling here we should be playing it for more than set value imo or we are turning jj into 22. Post flop I check call the flop and reasses the turn.
Title: Re: Am I being too weak here? Post by: Wannabe on May 07, 2008, 01:46:10 PM Yeah OK. Thought this had to be wrong - think I currently have a leak in my game where I play too tight in general and I had already lost two big pots with JJ to bigger pairs that night (yeah I know ROT)
To answer mondatoo, the reason I called was that I really thought he had AA or KK and thought I would stack him if I hit a set. Impiled odds are clearly there although after reading the advice from you guy's I realise this was probably very flawed thinking by me. So we are saying it +EV to get it all-in with a good overpair in most situations are these levels? Is it also +EV to get it all-in on the flop when AK hit's TPTK. I know it partly depends on the player but everyone seems to play the same at 10c/25c the default option on this kind of board with a hand like JJ or QQ should be push right? Thanks for the advice by the way this learning board is so useful. Title: Re: Am I being too weak here? Post by: Benny Brox on May 08, 2008, 06:51:52 PM I'd probably lead out on the flop here, about $3. If he flat calls you're probably good, obviously if he raises you'd have to re-assess. I don't like a check much here as it does not leave you much wiser, he could CB here with anything after you check.
Title: Re: Am I being too weak here? Post by: byronkincaid on May 08, 2008, 06:59:37 PM loads of tight FR players will only be 3 betting an UTG raise with QQ+ and AK. so calling flop and folding turn to a bet is fine imo. if he checks back and a safe card hits then bet river for value
Title: Re: Am I being too weak here? Post by: LuckyLloyd on May 10, 2008, 06:51:32 AM Make sure you top your stack up to 100BBs before each hand.
