Post by: Ironside on May 07, 2008, 07:36:17 AM
in a cash game where your getting slaughtered no matter how good you are when getting money in your losing

someone offers you to run it twice with your AJs v A6o preflop do you take the offer?

i did and was running so bad i lost both times which seemed at time to be a bigger kick in teeth than running it once and taken the beat like a man

which i should of done in first place

I still don't understand how "Run it twice" works.

It seems to me that I would run AJ v A6 a thousand times if I could. What am I missing here?

BTW- 50p please.

By running it twice in this case you would deal flop, turn and river then deal another flop ,turn  and river.
If  for example the AJ wins both times  you scoop the whole pot. If AJ wins the 1st time and A6 wins the second time you get 1/2 of the pot each. etc.
If you ran it 3 times you would be playing  for a 1/3 of the pot each time

The only decision you have is whether to slash your wrists or hang yourself imho obv.

You would only really use it when two players have got all their money in playing technically correct poker (like Aces vs an up down straight flush draw on the flop) which is close to a 50/50. Neither player has necessarily played badly, but one of them is gonna win a huge pot and the other lose a big one. By running it twice they smooth out the effects of lady luck a bit.

Run it once, all you are doing is reducing variance but at a bigger cost of cutting your edge.

You are not really reducing your edge as the probabilities are exactly the same, if you are making wining plays in the long term then by running it twice (or more) all you are doing is making the long term more short term. Also players who like to gamble will be more happy to let it all hang out if they think they can get it run more than once as its more fun, thereby increasing your edge whilst reducing your variance.

george it was 4 handed at the time and i have a loose image oppo had only looked at one card and claimed he was ahead of my range

this let me know he had an ace and then i knew chances were i was way ahead

i was £300 down at this stage and wanted to reduce the varaince because i had lost £150 on cold decks and £150 on bad beats in a 1/1 NLHE game where the average stack was £50

after seeing the first flop i said oh well i will get my money back
after the 2nd i went for a quick wheel outside as i knew it wasnt my night

As already stated running it twice normally occurs when players are all in with hands like top 2 vs up and down straight flush draw. Neither player is passing on the flop but at the same time in cash games its hardly many people's cup of tea to put their stack on a cointoss. I would never run A6 vs AJ twice.

It became fashionable in Brighton cash for a bit amongst some of the younger players (HSP watchers) casino banned it after a few weeks thankfully. It's really bad for my game and i never accepted running it twice, i don't want people calling me generally so i dont want to give them any extra encouragement!!

I once chopped a pot with a guy when i had managed to get 1k in pre in a 2-2 game with 35 soooooted other than that i never done it, funny hand that 1!!

No, I would be uninterested in running that hand twice.

If I lose it, I might call it a day, if I win, I'm back in buisness.

If I run it twice and end up chopping it, why didn't I just stay at home?
