Title: late stage of satellite
Post by: TightEnd on May 07, 2008, 03:07:19 PM

Satellite

One Seat to the winner

cash for second, nearly enough to buy a seat.

nothing for third

blinds 500-1000

button, 21000, passes

small blind 19000 with  Kh 9h limps.

bb 16000 tight pushes

can small blind call?

irrespective of image, what range is bb pushing there?

No SB can't.

I'm gonna take a guess that you was BB for this hand and got a call from sb?

this may seem laggy  but i just jam small blind with K9s in this spot. As played sb should fold.

Fold, sb can find better positions still. sb should have shoved and not limped, imo

Err that's what 'im upstairs said. So I should add sb can only push if wearing lucky shorts.

I agree - SB should be shoving here - as played, got to fold imo.

of course, result is irrelevant. (well after I have kicked the toy cat it is)

I thought sb played it odd though.

Hope it wasn't a satellie for something too big.

calls like this really piss me off, why do people call off all/nearly all their chips with this.

This seems to be how I am getting knocked out of comps alot lately. If he pushes and BB wakes up with a hand and then he sucks out I can handle that. The thing is people seem to make this sort of call and have me in all sorts of trouble  :D it would annoy me even more if I dominated him.

as played how can the SB ever call 15BB's here?  hate it...

Also can we not make a standard 2.5 BB's raise and go from there rather than shove 15+ BB's?  Less than 12 BB's I would shove, but 15/16 cant we still raise normally?

My above post relates to being the SB, not Tightys BB shove

It's not really poker hand analysis then, it's just you moaning and insighting everyone else to join in with lamenting your bad luck and rebuking the sb bad play.

yes you got outdrawn

yes he played it badly

yes Robert Mugabe is pushing his luck

get over it

Bystandard raising out of the small blind we are inviting the bb to call or shove with fold equity. If he calls we are obv OOP for the entire hand if he gets shoved on cant call K9h.

By shoving we are heaping the pressure on, and may even get A2/A5 to fold here. Either way we are taking the decision away from ourselves and putting it on our opponent, who knows that 3rd place pays £0. 15/16bb is fine to do this in this situation imo, id prob even stretch to close to 20bb. By 3x raising we are opening ourselves up to difficult situations in this spot.

Big risk chancing 19k to win only 1k is it not? I don't mind a standard raise in this spot against a tight player. I can see how a push can work here but it's too risky for me versus what's on offer. Hate the limp though.

This is my fav PHA post ever I think.

Btw, open shoving the sb would be ridiculously stupid.
