Ok, so at a live poker game and this guy suddenly gets a call on his mobile...he looks really concerned and then gets up and says he has to go as his mother has just been in a car accident and has been rushed to hospital. Obv, we all feel for the guy but then the TD says that his remaining chips have to be shared out to the rest of the players in the tourney...

is this right? could someone who hasnt played in the tournament continue to play his chips? shouldnt the chips be distributed amongst his table and not everyone in the tourney? whats your thoughts guys and gals?

I would let him blind out, think its the fairest way to do it

even if he ends up cashing?

yep, also, id suggest all the players at the table club together to give him his money back.

He's blinded out, and if he cashes he cashes

1) fall on floor laughing
2) watch as he tries to figure out how to evenly share them out
3) go and play somewhere with a competent TD

In the 1990 WSOP Stu Ungar collapsed in his hotel room before the start of day 3. He was rushed to the hospital. He was blinded away but still made the final table before finishing 9th in his absence.

Rules wise fine.

Morally its a bit different as Stuey had been snorting coke all night.

Shared the chips out? Wow. That's a new one to me. You blind the person out.

If the accident caused minor whiplash and the coke was legal, would that make a difference?   I'm just wondering how the moral issue comes in  because rules are rules regardless of whether you are stoned or just had an accident. Of course they may vary from place to place.

Sharing definitely odd. Either blind out or remove stack from tournament as happened recently in WSOP Circuit event in USA where an abusive drunk finalist was DQ'd and chips taken off table.

Maybe we need some basic international rules because if that guy came back with his mum being okay, he would have no chips left and a good argument as to why he should.  A job for Tighty and Tikay I think ;) ;slavedriver;

IF it isn't even a major tourney and was near the start I would even go as far as making a common sense ruling where I remove his chips and refund his buyin.

i would take him out of comp and his chips, maybe comp him a meal
