The money is going in more often than not. You have TP+OESD I have an issue with how this whole hand was played though. You minraised to 3,200. Why? The blinds are going to call you for only one BB more (even though it's bad play). A raise to 5,000 is better with that kind of hand. The idea is that you want to steal the blinds, and a min raise won't do that in your situation. Okay then the flop is straighting and flushing. One guy bets 5k into 6.5k (11.5k total) then you reraise to 15k (26.5k total). I think you need to raise between 22.5-25k more to price out the flush draw more than anything. If both players call (one with a flush) then they are getting good odds on the call. The turn brings a brick. Then you shove. Not a bad play but only a hand that can beat you can call. What was your read on the villain at this time? Had you sat down for very long with him? These are all crucial factors to consider when making these decisions. I'll let some other people chime in too but to answer your question in short - Yes you can get away from this situation by raising more preflop as they may not call with such junk. Title: Re: Could i have got away from this hand....?? Post by: ChipRich on May 22, 2008, 06:23:53 PM limps round to me i raise it 3.2k Why?? If your makin this kind of play after a few limpers, make it more imho. But otherwise you can get away from this hand by folding pre. As played, i get it in yes. Title: Re: Could i have got away from this hand....?? Post by: SnipeR on May 22, 2008, 06:52:39 PM MMMmmm...yeah i do agree the Min Raise was weak, however i wasnt thinking bout taking the blinds...my initial play was to juice the pot, then if i hit im paid already,or i can get away cheaply if i miss totally?,if i had raise it more and still had 1 x caller, how am i gonna react to a post flop shove?,where do i stand in the hand?, the min raise was more for information, if i took it down there and then bonus, but not objective, the BB had been agg re-raising everyone, so why give him the opp to come over top?, i was surprised when he just flat called?...his two previous all in shove calls were A/2 V AJ and he got a 2, and 88 v AK and they held so he knows hes running good but not a great player...(he finished 7th in end after reaching FT with a commanding lead).....tbf at time in put him on either flush draw or poss A/J......in summary even after playing hand u hink i should have bet out over half my stack just to find out where in the hand im at??....good luck at the felt my friend..;-)

Quote ...my initial play was to juice the pot, then if i hit im paid already Sounds ok in theory but I would rethink, because it fails spectacularly. You have entered a limped pot in a weak way, with a weak hand, when your tournament position is relatively strong. Why even entertain doing this? There are plenty of less risky alternatives to make chips from your position than this. Title: Re: Could i have got away from this hand....?? You are trying to juice the pot with a marginal hand. Not a great idea imo. You either raise properly to get rid of all the limpers or flat call. I don't understand what information you are looking for, because if you min raise everybody has the odds to call with pretty much anything. You mention about the BB coming over the top all the time. Okay thats fair enough to an extent, but if he comes over the top of your min raise, then are you going to a) reraise all in? b) flat call? c) fold? You have wasted 1,600 in chips to be pushed out by an aggro who's range is probably as wide as the Grand Canyon You also suggest that you don't want to invest half your stack finding out where you are in a hand. But you end up stacking it in anyway when you can't honestly be certain that you have the best hand. If you don't want to invest half your stack on a hand then you probably aren't playing the right hand. You try to save yourself $10k by betting light on the flop but if you get two callers you are against heavy draws and have given them the odds to continue while you yourself are unsure if you are way ahead or way behind. If you do not have room to manouvre in the hand (you obviously don't) then you shouldn't play it the way you have. At this stage of a tournament you don't want to get tricky because it can cost you dearly - as it has here. Title: Re: Could i have got away from this hand....??
