Title: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: Newmanseye on May 24, 2008, 09:05:48 PM OK who's has seen it?
I took the family today & as great as it was to see Indy in action again, I think the story cheapend the franchise. whats your thoughts? Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: scotty2hatty on May 24, 2008, 09:30:31 PM I was kinda enjoying it until the end, at which point I turned to the girlfriend and was like "what the fuck is this?".
Cate Blanchett's accent switches between tawdry Russian and some sort of Engishesque. Think it improves as the film goes on but it could be that I just stopped noticing/caring. Couple of other poor parts but overall worth watching. 4.5/10 Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: snoopy1239 on May 24, 2008, 09:37:06 PM Think that 4.5 rating is a tad harsh, Scotty. I thought it was excellent, especially considering the hype and expectation. Familiar, highly successful formula was followed pretty much throughout, Ford was splendid for 65, and all the action that we loved from the first few films was present in all it's glory. Some great lines, although Ford's comedy timing was slightly off (as seems to be the case with some actors as they age), but on the whole dialogue was satisfactory, which is the best you can hope for in an Indiana Film. Perhaps too many characters wandering around made the whole pursuit of the Kingdom a little overcrowded and the rekindling romance story seemed a little bit contrived, but the cast in general was well selected in my book. Personally I thought Blantchett was great and should be commended for a charismatic, fun performance (agreed, it was hammy), whilst the youngster, although would never be able to replace Ford as the lead, made a worthy sidekick. Some great settings and I loved the new 50's surroundings, although I probably wouldn't have gone for any silly alien angles, but I can forgive them for that when they throw in a nuclear explosion for no other reason but to have a blow a whole village up.
Highly entertaining affair. Couldn't have asked for too much more. Let's not forget it's an Indian Jones Film, not Schindler's List. Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: boldie on May 24, 2008, 10:01:44 PM I reckon Schindler's list would have been better if he had been running away froma big boulder at some stage in the movie.

Snoopy, it's a 4.5 in my ratings - to get a high rating in my ratings you have to be something special!!! I watched 'The Breed' on Sky Movies the other day, that's a 2/10. Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: stallyon on May 25, 2008, 12:14:15 AM i saw this today and what can i say - i loved it although i thought the ending was a bit far-fetched but still....it was fantastic....although i may be slightly biased....eh suzanne?
Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: Graham C on May 25, 2008, 12:15:54 AM Whether or not Cate's accent is convincing isn't the issue with a film like this though. We all know it's not Oscar material. Films like this area all about the fun and I can't wait to see it.
Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: LeKnave on May 25, 2008, 12:21:18 AM I liked it, some parts were ridic tho, but still enjoyed it.
LOL@ Mud swinging through the jungle on vines with all the monkeys though, pretty comedy. Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: Newmanseye on May 25, 2008, 12:39:57 AM I could feel a mixing of the Genre's that both George Lucas & S. Spielberg have a pedigree in, My feeling is they should not have tried to mix with the indy franchise.
The adventure aspects of the film were great, the dialogue was fine & i think Harrison Ford pulled it off at 65. the use of aliens - sci fi was a step too far imho. thats my only gripe is the use of "aliens" Dont enlarge the small type unless you want spoilers Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: scotty2hatty on May 25, 2008, 01:09:59 AM Whether or not Cate's accent is convincing isn't the issue with a film like this though. No one said it was an issue? It was just ridic, as was the other things pointed out - like Mutt playing Tarzan. Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: Acidmouse on May 25, 2008, 08:52:09 AM Thought the film was poor and boring.
Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: TightEnd on May 25, 2008, 09:02:05 AM Extremely disappointing. Not a patch on the previous films in the franchise.
Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: bolt pp on May 25, 2008, 09:14:16 AM I reckon Schindler's list would have been better if he had been running away froma big boulder at some stage in the movie. yep, or he gets on the kids bike and flys across the sky with it for a little bit before crashing, some action ffs, give the film some credibility. You either do the movie in colour OR in black and white...don't fart about with one red jacket..Althoguh since it's Spielberg he probably didn't even notice it was in it..sloppy directing IMO. I didnt want to say anything cos i didnt want to embarrass the man but it does look like a film he threw together in about 5 mins Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: MANTIS01 on May 27, 2008, 10:05:57 AM Watched this last night and I almost cried at how horrible it was. At the end when "son of Indiana Jones" put on THE hat a distinct shiver ran down my spine.
Agree with the WTF monkey-swinging fiasco. No doubt the film appeals to the captive and super-intelligent American market. Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: TheChipPrince on May 27, 2008, 10:24:24 AM If you dont take it too seriously I think its ok, very tough to produce any film that would match the hype...

There have always been the over the top scenes so the monkey bit was fine imo. I think the plot was the problem but what do you expect from George Lucas? I liked it, not the best indy but there are much worse films out there. Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: MANTIS01 on May 27, 2008, 01:30:58 PM Agree about the plot, it was very weird. "Must return skull to Aliens to get great power". But hold on a minute, who gives a fcuk about some dotty Aliens...and what a shit power...you die. Why would you even entertain taking the manky skull anywhere? So crap.
Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: TightEnd on May 27, 2008, 01:31:54 PM ok, who is posting on Mantis's account?
the post stopped after three lines ffs!!! Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: MANTIS01 on May 27, 2008, 01:43:28 PM If I hold my breath I can write three lines about this film before the emotion of WTF wells up in my eyes. By the way the monkey thing was not ok, it was very bad. And the sad way acting hero Ray Winston has fallen from grace is pitiful, his death scene is pure WTF. Sorry can't continue.....
Sean Connery has the most kudos in this film, for staying on the golf course. Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: The_duke on May 27, 2008, 06:12:51 PM I liked it
Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: rex008 on May 28, 2008, 09:19:35 AM Went to see it last night. I was prepared for the worst... but actually thought it wasn't too bad. Apart from several "but that's just stupidly unfeasible" moments (going down three huge waterfalls without a scratch - last waterfall was a carbon copy of Niagara falls, in the Amazon rainforest, which was cunning). I bet there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth from Lucas when National Treasure II came out, what with the whole City of Gold storyline. The motorbike chase and the jeep/lorry chase through the jungle were entertaining though.
6.5/10. No Raiders of the Lost Ark it was, but no Phantom Menace either. Title: Re: Indiana Jones & Kindom of the Crystal skull Post by: Indestructable on May 28, 2008, 06:24:30 PM For me it was a 6 out of 10, the space ship just wasn't needed. If they had just cut that one scene, I might have come away happier as the film still had it's moments.
