the night before i go on a holiday i use to lie in bed thinking, dont forget to check the taps are off etc, and make sure you check cash, passport and other stuff, now i write a little list out for the morning , i sleep a lot better since i started doing this as i know i wont forget anything

Sounds worse than it is.   People will think you build decent cars, speak more than one language and are a nice drunk..rather than only being able to speak/shout in one language and having a tendency to beat them up for no reason when you're drunk (or actually you being drunk is a reason to beat them up) or smash their beautiful pub/country to bits......sure people might think that you might be there to invade their country but as soon as they see you don't have  a tank with you they'll be OK.

So it beats people thinking you're English.

sunglasses, a hat and a camera. Dont you get towels provided? It would save some room in your case.
