Title: about to jump back on the online poker bandwagon....diary of a small time fish
Post by: Claw75 on May 31, 2008, 05:06:08 PM
I've barely played any online poker for a couple of months now - just got fed up with it, did my cash in, and decided to take a break.  I think I'm ready to step back into the fold now, and thought some kind of public challenge was in order.  I'm going to stick $100 on to blonde tonight, and see where it takes me.  Bankroll management is not a consideration for that sort of sum - if I lose it, so be it.

The first part of my plan is to double the deposit within a week playing sit n goes with a max $5 buy in.  I'll probably play a few MTT's as well, but will only allow myself a bash at an MTT if my current balance is over $120.  As and when the goal is achieved, I'll set a new one depending on where I am.

I'll update games played/results on this thread, with maybe the odd key hand thrown in.  I'm no wordsmith like some of the other guys on here, so don't really expect anyone to read - this is more for my own motivation than anything else.

Let the games begin......:D

All the best of luck to you Claire, I hope all your hole cards are aces :)

I recently set myself a target amount to make and it helped me focus and keep an eye on my balance. You've not played a while so you will probably have even better focus so Win Win Win!!!!!!!

the thing is I know sit and goes are where I can make profit.  Having said that, I can only make consistent profit at $20 and above, and I just don't have the dosh for that at the moment.  I might just donk it all off on baby MTTs.

You need to change yer mindset lively if you have any hope of achieving your goal.  You're trying to BUILD a bankroll, not donk it, ya goose!  Think positive and you'll come out a winner when it's over.

It's official - I'm still not in the right mindset to play online poker.  I just don't get any enjoyment out of it anymore, and have no drive/incentive to play well.  I'm quitting for the night at $65.  I'll have another go another day, but only when I've got a real urge to play.

Claw, its not really any of my business as I dont know you but are you used to playing higher limits than what you are trying to play now? Perhaps that is why you feel no motiviation as the money means nowt?

Live poker FTW, much more sociable

this is the problem.  I've played more live poker over the last 8 months or so, and I just LOVE the game.  Get a real buzz from it and thrive on it, whatever the stakes.  As a result, I play much better live and have a lot more success.  Online just doesn't do it for me anymore.

Financial circumstances mean I can't really get out and play much, if at all, at the moment.  Since I split from my husband last year I've been kidding myself that I still have some disposable income to spend on poker.  I don't.  I've kept my head above water by winning more than I've laid out, but the money has eventually had to find it's way back to day-to-day stuff.

Truth is, if I want to carry on playing poker (which I really do - live poker I mean), I either need to grind out a bankroll online (which looks like it's not going to happen) or find a rich backer (also not going to happen).

I think I just have to accept that poker can't feature as much as I would like it to in my life at the moment, so will have to take a back seat until circumstances change.  Still looking forward to the social events though - got the sky thing in Brighton next week and the forum challenge in July :D

Claw starts a diary, changes strategy three times on one night, decides she's up for it, she isn't, she might be, far prefers live poker and then back to trying sats..all in less than two pages!!!

Decisiveness FTW!

PS- Before you tear me to shreds girls, I don't mean that is a bad way, (God knows we men are guilty of our share of stereotypical behaviour) I mean it's a girlie and endearing type thread, all part of your fascination, viva la difference and all that.

thanks - I think :)

After the shennanigans of Saturday night I managed to up my balance by $4 thanks to the blonde cash table.  So today I'm changing tack and punting my 69 bucks on a higher risk/higher reward strategy and hitting the MTT's today, starting with $2 and $5 rebuy.  At the very least I enjoy rebuys, so I won't be tilted due to boredom!

gl Claire

Im beginning to face facts on my online career too.....it just aint working as it used to a year/18 months ago...

I withdrew a bunch of money that time ,forcing me down the limits...but that was ok, I fully expected to rebuild easily as i did before....not so.....personally i blame the americans.

the anti-poker bill forced the majority of fish from the game leaving maniac irish and scandies mostly, and i just can't handle them...lol

so the result is by BR is slowly but steadily going down..my game selection is getting lower.and i just aint winning or enjoying it no more...im doubting myself all the time and playing scared poker.

I also refuse to re-deposit,I'm just playing outta habit...but I love live play like yourself, and have had some good results, but it will never be a great money spinner for me.

time for a rest, time to hang up the poker cap for a while and re-evaluate things..

gl with your endeavours

What are your opinions on the German players? Loads of them on partypoker and pacific and I havent seen one play well at all on the lower limit tables. None of them know how to bet or to fold.

There are some reasonable German mid stakes stt players, hell of a lot better than their UK counterparts anyway. They do seem to push too wide especially from EP and table selection clearly hasn't reached Germany yet.

Have you thought of buying in for $10 and playing 6 tables of NL50 - you certainly won't get bored with 6 tables open and if you pick your spots right, you should be able to show a tidy profit fairly easily.

OK - today I have a new mini-mission - 'Reading or bust'.  I've just found out that this year's women's poker tour is going to be in Reading tomorrow, and I am free.  I am also skint.  I know from experience that I can do very well in these games, poker gods willing, and I really want to play.  Today's mission is to spin $50 up to $200 to fund my buy in.  Not sure yet whether I'm going to play cash or STTs - will probably multi table cash.

wish me luck - gogogogogp!

Mtts or shortstacking cash ftw.

Just back from Reading.  Was a good afternoon/evening, with blonde well represented by myself, Suzanne, Mel, Fran and Chilli.  It was a smallish field with 59 runners, but the top 10 were paid (as per every event on the tour).  I finished a rather disappointing 13th after being average or thereabouts all day.  Apart from one hand (which was the one that crippled me just before my exit hand), I think I played well all day, which makes the bad play all the more annoyiing.  I know the biggest weakness in my game is playing certain hands exactly the way I did today, yet I do it time after time after time.  I will learn one day I hope.

thanks to my friendly anonymous backer for staking me, and I'm sorry I didn't bring home any bacon :(

Well played :)  How'd the other blonde ladies get on?

Mel played a great game and was chipleader for most of the way until her QQ ran into AA and crippled her stack. I never really got off the ground and was card dead most of the game. I not sure how Fran and Maria got on, Claire lasted the longest  ;applause;

The lady who won it was down to 300 at one point so good for her.
