Title: 4 way all in - Dealer error
Post by: EvilPie on June 07, 2008, 02:31:20 PM
In the rebuy tournament at DTD last night there was an unfortunate error by one of the dealers that lead to one player being down by 2000 chips and 1 (not sure who) up by the same amount.

The situation was that it was late in the rebuy period and there was a four way all in. The dealer did all the side pots and then the hand was played.

The chips were distributed accordingly and the dealer started to shuffle for the next hand.

The guy who'd won the hand started stacking his chips when someone noticed that he was a bit low. He'd started with 3k having just had his rebuy and now had about 10k, an obvious mistake as everyone had his 3k covered.

The TD was called and the decision was that once the cards are being shuffled the hand is over and no rectification can be made.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that when you shove your chips in make sure you know how many you had and don't let the dealer start to shuffle until you are happy that everything has been done correctly.

Don't be afraid to query these things as dealers are only human and are capable of making mistakes.

Surely the result should be void and all prize money returned

Would've been interesting if the dealer hadn't started to shuffle when the TD was called.

There was only the guy who'd just had his rebuy who knew what he'd started with so how they'd have worked it out I don't know.

Glad I wasn't in the hand. Although if I was I would obviously known exactly what all the side pots should have been thanks to my astute observation skills

I personally think that if all the chips go in on one street, it's better to leave the chips in front of the players.  That way everyone is just thinking about getting the side pots if any right at the showdown.

He probably was. Don't worry about that much.

Multiple sidepots can go wrong very easily. No dealer is ever going to have a problem with double checking a pot if you feel that there is a problem. And never let your dealer 'sort it out at the end'. Good rarely comes of it.
