Are we capping entries at 16 like last time or can we go for more if there's numbers?

Just thinking about Matt being away currently and potentially missing out if it fills before he's back as I'm sure he'll want to play.

Wouldn't want those little monkeys to miss out!   :D

Sign up now... most of us have been members for ages (and thus will have far better teams!)

There's also from the pavilion which is also fun.

This is true but they have just changed the rules so that you get a much better starting squad as well as some extra cash so that you won't be as far behind than if you'd been starting up previously.

But yes, sign up now, sooner the better...you won't regret it.  Loads of fun

Crikey, I don't know what anyone else thinks but if this is an example of a new "improved" Battrick squad for beginners then they need to have a rethink!   :dontask:

I think you've been a little unlucky there Mondatoo as I'd expect you to have a couple of competents or respectables in there to begin with.

But to deal with the hand you've been dealt.  I'd split your squad into 3 sections......

1. Tiny & Willis are trainable 17 year olds so get some nets on them immediately.

2. You have 8 other players who have medium bat/bowl, medium conc/cons and medium stamina. Bit of a shame they're all 30 though! However they can form the basis of your team, certainly for now, although I'd be looking even to phase these guys out as your squad builds in quality.  Their stats are absolute minimum for competitive team plus 30 is knocking on a bit

3. Rest of squad.....fire them immediately!!

I'd then get into transfer market and try to pick up some "competent" batsmen/bowlers (still with med cons/conc  stamina though if possible)  to fill up your squad.  Hopefully they shouldn't be setting you back more than £10k each and I'd aim to build up a squad of around 20 players.

Try to buy a couple of 17 year olds to train too, you do get ITS credits to develop your own youth picks but this is hit and miss so I'd say it's best to hold these back for when you have a better academy.

Note it is very important not to go into debt so plan your finances carefully!

If you can pick up a couple of "respectables" so much the better too but finances may be tight to begin with.

You look to have a good sprinkling of bots (unmanaged teams) in both your leagues who you should be able to beat and keep morale of squad/fans up.

I'd look to get established this season and then go for promotion next season!!!

Good luck!   :)up

Second Mondatoes looks to be a bug to me.

Title: Re: battrick blonde cup
Post by: Bongo on July 02, 2008, 08:31:24 PM
I think it's a bug rather than you reging twice, the other team isn't quite set up properly.

I see we add diva in as the 16th team, then kick off when he gets back.

4 groups of 4, home and away games (6), top half into one knockout, bottom half into another.

Total of 9 weeks, so plenty of time to fit it all in.

Anyone still in the BT cup?

Title: Re: battrick blonde cup
Post by: vegaslover on July 02, 2008, 10:17:36 PM
Ashdown, Dobie and Garner may make ok openers for now as they have good experience.
I have a med opener who scores runs no matter who he plays due to his experience level.
Go and find a few 17 year olds you'll be able to pick em up for 1 or 2k this time of the season.

It was a good game.  I set off like a train on the chase to start with and then your 2nd set of bowlers put the stoppers on and eventually rattled out my lads quite comfortably.

Sweet looks decent and it was good to see my old skipper Hunter bag a few - slowly! I've got some big div IV relegation battles coming up so you'll have a good chance the return leg.

Foxy have moved on to five out of five.................defeats that is!   ;)

To be expected against 3 more established teams, but at least looking competitive especially considering I've faced pretty much first choice lineups for four of the games.

Worth it though for several encouraging moments such as smashing 108 off the last ten yesterday!

Congrats to wardonkey for running away with our group....  quality!    ;applause;

End of Over 22: 103-6, runrate=4.68
Hinds   1-1-0-0
Cousins*   0 (5 balls)
Duke   10 (19 balls)
Last Wicket: Pickering c. Worthington b. Lea 10 (FOW: 102/6)

Title: Re: battrick blonde cup
Post by: amcgrath1uk on August 31, 2008, 01:16:06 PM

6.1    W   Southall to Purches
Defensive shot by Purches goes terribly wrong. The ball flicks the outside edge and goes through to Birchall for an easy catch.

End of Over 6: 19-3, runrate=3.17, reqrunrate=3.27 (162-10)
Doyle   3-1-6-2
Purches*   2 (4 balls)
Lund   0 (0 balls)
Last Wicket: Snowdon c. Birchall b. Doyle 8 (FOW: 19/3)
5.6    W   Doyle to Snowdon
Big appeal from behind the wicket... and the umpire's finger slowly but surely goes up! Nice bowling there, Snowdon drawn into a false shot and getting a thin edge through to Birchall.

This is a humdinger!!

21.4    W   Hicks to Birchall
Goes back to a full ball and gets absolutely done. Hits him on the toe and the umpire had no choice but to give that one out! A bit of poor judgment from Birchall there.
21.3    W   Hicks to Ashieq
Ashieq has edged the ball to Carew and the umpire's given it!
21.2    4   Hicks to Ashieq
That's as good a cut shot as you'll ever see. Four all the way.
21.1    6   Hicks to Ashieq
A dreadful ball from Hicks and Ashieq wallops that one for a maximum.

Thats my chance of winning disappearing...

what a fantastic game that was - i wasn't around to watch it, but i've just checked the scoresheet and that was incredibly tight! maybe i should've played a slightly stronger team to make sure, but i really needed to rest my guys for tuesday's game.

Do we need to flip for home advantage for the finals?

If so, I call tails in my game (plate final) vs ramshire.

Sounds good to me!

Jon and I are delaying our final for a week so we can both GFI our last league games and not worry about fitness. Also means I might have a chance of remembering to set the team ;ashamed;

Well done to ramshire on the plate win.  Only just checked the result but it looks like I never quite managed to keep up with the required run-rate and eventually ran out of wickets trying to do so.

Sigh, neverends!

We had the final today.

Predictably Jon bowled me out for 116.

Then I bowled him out for 100!  ;gobsmacked;

It didn't feel that way when I lost a 500BB pot AIPF with AA last night.

The guy ran like god, was so sick... first hand he raises, I flop a set, he has a straight. Few hands later, I have top 2 v his flopped straight (and he got very little from me).

Him and another guy managed to build a huge pot, it was 5 bet preflop and he 4 bet shoved on the flop and made the guy pass and showed K7o on a K high board  :dontask:

So obv I get AA and he 4bet shoves pre and draws out.

FTP... now that was lucky! Barstow is a dreadful bat too!

Wish I'd read the rules about ties beforehand, would have meant I didn't need to sweat the last run!
