Title: Burnley have signed ... Post by: Colchester Kev on June 25, 2008, 05:16:50 PM Burnley have signed midfielder Kevin McDonald on a three-year deal after agreeing a fee with Dundee.
Burnley have completed the club record signing of striker Martin Paterson from Scunthorpe for an initial fee of £1m, which could rise to £1.3m. Burnley have signed Peruvian international goalkeeper Diego Penny, subject to a successful appeal over his work permit. The 24-year-old made over 150 appearances for Peru Primera Division side Coronel Bolognesi, winners of the Clausara league in 2007. anyone have any knowledge of the first 2 signings ?? if so, how do you rate the players ? Title: Re: Burnley have signed ... Post by: GlasgowBandit on June 25, 2008, 06:36:36 PM Kevin MacDonald is a quality player. I have seen him play in a few games and he is a very tidy midfielder, he can pass (has a great range), good from set pieces either side, has a bit of dig about him and will only benefit from getting regular football at a decent level. I'd hoped that Celtic would sign him. But part of me thinks its better that he's moved on to England and perhaps we can get hold of him in a few years, may cost more but I am sure he will mature at a much quicker rate.
I rate Owen Coyle highly as a manager and his st johnstone side played really good football. He's also a good Celtic man and I think if he continues his own development as a manager he may be in with a chance of the Celtic job in 3 - 4 years time. Title: Re: Burnley have signed ... Post by: Rod Paradise on June 26, 2008, 11:22:06 AM Yep, MacDonald's been a stickout in the Dundee side - Celtic have made offers for him in the past. Think he reckons he'll get more chances to play for Burnley (and he's probably right) then make a move on the back of that.

I thought for a moment this was gonna be a football thread ;D Title: Re: Burnley have signed ... Post by: TheChipPrince on June 26, 2008, 01:54:12 PM Cheltenham had an offer of £85,000 accepted for Paterson when he was in Stoke Reserves, before he joined Scunthorpe last summer, but he turned them down... But he's proved he was right to move to Scunny...
Title: Re: Burnley have signed ... Post by: scotty2hatty on June 26, 2008, 02:40:15 PM I'm a Dundee fan and Kevin McDonald has been our best player for probably the last two seasons. He is very good and at £500k is a good bit of business for Burnley. He did Dundee a massive favour by signing a new contract at the start of 07/08 so that we would get a decent fee for him.
Sticks out like a thumb for Dundee and Scotland U/21s. Should shine in the Championship but whether he makes an instant impact I don't know. Sad to see him leave. Title: Re: Burnley have signed ... Post by: Colchester Kev on June 26, 2008, 02:59:15 PM Cheers guys, looks like a couple of decent signings there then .... maybe this season will see the Clarets pushing hard for a play off spot, realistically that is the best I can hope for, cant see a top 2 finish ... even though it would be nice ;)

Having been brought up midway between Bradford and Burnley, I find myself having Burnley as "my other team" as well - Bradford City being my first love....sadly. Also seen some great games between these two claret wearing teams. Title: Re: Burnley have signed ...
