Title: How do people look themselves in the mirror
Post by: 77dave on July 02, 2008, 08:04:17 AM
So yesterday being the first of July meant i was to complete on my new house and collect the keys to move in. We had been to the house  days previous to complete a walkthrough and make sure all was as it was meant to be as the sellers moved out the day before.

So we collect the keys and arrive at our new home. Upon entering the house and leaving the temps of 109 degrees outside we discover that its even hotter inside. I check the thermostat and its on and reading 70 degrees. I check the fusebox all is fine so i go out the back to check the 2 aircon units down the side of the house. I turn the corner and I see a concrete slab where the units had once stood. I can see the imprint from where they once stood and a couple of wires but that is all.

Some nice person must of decided his need for the units was greater than mine. Apparently there has been a spet of aircon unit robberys the copper inside makes it worth nicking it seems, anyway its still better than Romford.

Its all covered by the sellers insurance so we will be getting 2 brand new units at a cost of $4400. So I guess in the longterm it may be a blessing as it gets us new units for free but in the meantime god its hot.

Previous owners Jewish as well? ;)

Goodluck in your new house mate :)

*Note; Crap...I don't quite know how my little joke will go down...erm..yes..strange isn't it, I was always more than comfortable just cracking off a joke and not worrying about the consequences and now the atmosphere on the forum is such that you just don't know....expla
Anyways to explain... If people in Amsterdam take the lightbulbs from the house before they move, the people in the Jewish neighbourhood (Rivieren buurt) always say "He must be Jewish as well"..that's where the "saying" comes from.

THE MAN IN THE MIRROR

WHEN YOU GET WHAT YOU WANT IN YOUR STRUGGLE FOR SELF,
AND THE WORLD MAKES YOU KING FOR A DAY;
THEN GO TO THE MIRROR AND LOOK AT YOURSELF,
AND SEE WHAT THAT MAN HAS TO SAY.

FOR IT ISN’T A MAN’S FATHER, MOTHER OR WIFE,
WHOSE JUDJEMENT UPON HIM MUST PASS:
THE FELLOW WHO’S VERDICT COUNTS MOST IN HIS LIFE,
IS THE MAN STARING BACK FROM THE GLASS.

HE’S THE FELLOW TO PLEASE; NEVER MIND ALL THE REST,
FOR HE’S WITH YOU CLEAR UP TO THE END,
AND YOU’VE PASSED YOUR MOST DANGEROUS, DIFFICULT TEST,
IF THE MAN IN THE GLASS IS YOUR FRIEND.

YOU CAN FOOL THE WHOLE WORLD DOWN THE PATHWAY OF YEARS,
AND YOU GET PATS ON THE BACK AS YOU PASS,
BUT THE FINAL REWARD WILL BE HEARTACHE AND TEARS,
IF YOU’VE CHEATED THE MAN IN THE GLASS.

This poem was found on the wall of a cell in death row.
It was composed by an anonymous prisoner.

Would not happen in Romford Jim........

Tough break, & I cannot imagine being in Vegas without Air-Con. You sorted now?

That was some Poem Tom Posted - "be true to yourself" sums it up I guess. And it's unbelievably true.

absolute bull!

it was written by a mr dale wimbrow in 1934 and was originally called "the guy in the glass" and published in an american magazine and copyrighted at the time.

suppose its not as appealing as quoting it as being written by an anonymous prisoner on death row.

lol im sure they did!

unfortunately many people have claimed to have written it over the years and changed certain parts of it and many have glamourised it by saying it was written by people in uncompromising situations.

its a great poem and one whose message i try my best to adhere to in my life though not always successfully lol

The internet has seen many things get twisted by chinese whispers, usually with extra schmaltz added. A quick Google usually sorts the wheat from the chaff.

Lol I agree and I'm just about to add to it-

Cheers inthebelly for tuning me into Dale Wimbrow- another amazin Poem from him regarding religion:

You ask me "what is my religion"?
Now what if I say I have None?
You'll be wrongly impressed,
And unduly distressed
So wait - I have only begun.

My creed in the sense that you mean it,
Has no single symbol, or sign.
Big, impressive, or small,
There is good in them all,
So perhaps Your religion is mine.

My doctrine is any that stands for
The honor and virtue of men.
For whatever we preach,
We're all striving to reach
A mutual goal in the end.

My church is the one that is nearest
Wherever I happen to be.
The place where men go
Their devotion to show,
Is good - and sufficient for me.

What matters the Name on the mileposts
That stand by the path you have trod?
If the pathway leads UP
Then at last you shall sup
With the infinite army of God.

Think its a great message in a time where relations between differing religions is somewhat fractured
