Title: Live tourney hand
Post by: Hairydude on July 07, 2008, 12:22:58 AM
Playing live today and after being up and down (from 9k to 29k) was on about 19k with blinds at 800-1600.

I am in BB, when UTG +2 (female that seems weak/passive limps in), all fold round to old geezer in SB to my right who makes up (SB is serial limper who i've raised off pots a few times after he's limped- he seems to like his marginals) and I look down at  8c 8d. I want 4800 in pot without any confrontation so bet out 4000- anybody disagree with this bet?? surely I shouldnt check here??

UTG + 2 as expected folds but SB calls my raise- flop comes  5s 6s 7d giving me open ender and overpair- SB bets out 4k- into 12800 pot?????? whats my play- is this an automatic ship it in- seems a weak bet.

I'd check raise the flop.  He may check behind and it gives you a free card to hit you up and down.

Ahh mis-read.  In which case I insta jam.  If this is the stanley though your probably up against 2 pair or a made straight.  Sick :(

Right the outcome of the hand was- I reraise all in with my open ender and overpair- I think i'm ahead and he maybe flushing with 2 over cards- possibility of Set but think I need to take my chances- so thinking i'm ahead I push- I was wrong to think I was ahead- He had JJ and although I had outs I bricked and that was me out.

But my main question is- can I seriously put him on this hand and can I get away from it given his range- I think it was quite a strange way to play jacks from the SB with one early limper and only me behind him(he was maybe thinking the early limper was being sneaky with a monster but surely he raises to find out?).  The pot was a decent size to take down right there for him so surely he raises??? I think any pair higher than my 8's and he surely makes a move(with maybe the exception of trying to be cute with aces-something I would rarely do given this situation???

Maybe I'm not giving him the respect he deserves and maybe he fully expects me to make a move since I had quite an aggressive table image(although of the 4 showdown I had- AK, AQ, AA and a set of 6's)- if this is a case then I frickin love it and he's a genius. but its a big risk as I check say 5 7 os etc I also know a lot of the old timers play jacks very meekly as they hate the hand

Incidentally the hand I had AQ the same old geezer had queens and called my bluff raise on a king high board- This was the 1st time I'd played live in a couple of months and I have to say tight passive is the new tight aggressive lol(if that makes sense)- i'd like to think my style is player dependant and I try to adapt but EVERYONE nowadays is very aggressive and it seemed on sunday it was better to let players hang themselves-which is something this old timer possibly also noticed and let me hang myself.
