Title: Can I fold a set here? Post by: Wannabe on July 07, 2008, 10:19:04 PM I lost the hand history to this one somehow but I'll try to explain it. The game is 25c/50c on Ipoker (10 Man). I was sitting with just over $50 and the other player in the hand was just under $50.
I get dealt 4c 4d and there is a raise before me (to $2) I call and everyone else folds the flop comes down 4s 6h Jc The other player bets out ($4 into a $4.75 pot) I call - Might be a mistake here. The Turn comes 8d He bets $8 I raise to $20 and he moves all-in - I call, he shows JJ and more than less stacks me. Bottom set on this board? Is there much that moves all-in at this level that my hand actually beats? The only reason I ask is that I had a strong feeling that the guy had a set but could not bring myself to fold this - I am right to call in this spot? Title: Re: Can I fold a set here? Post by: GlasgowBandit on July 07, 2008, 10:26:43 PM I'm going bust 11 times out of 10 in this spot.
Title: Re: Can I fold a set here? Post by: Longines on July 07, 2008, 10:27:47 PM In the long term, you will win much more when you flop a set comapred to the amount you will lose when you flop set under set.
Reload, move on. I posted this in another forum recently: Been playing with Poker Tracker this afternoon - all set under sets on the flop against me: TT v KK KT6 $198- 77 v 99 976 $187- 44 v QQ AQ4 $162- Difficult to identify all the times I had set over set as often the opponent mucks without showing. That's in 19 months. My net profit from trips is just shy of $16,000. As I said, I'm pretty sure you don't want to be folding them unless your oppo turns his cards over first. You raise I good point..I might have been too quickly to assume this, I don't think I can be judged for assuming though as, well...it's what I do and I assume you know as much. Title: Re: Can I fold a set here? Post by: Claw75 on July 08, 2008, 12:18:04 PM Hi Everyone - First post here I'm new to this forum and online poker (and really poker in general) and I am looking for a bit of advice and help and I am told that this forum is the best place to get it !! I have only really played games with my mates before but have got good results and wanted to give poker a "proper" try. I have a bankroll of $1000 to start with and would like some advice on the best way to proceed in trying to become a winning player. I will probably have to post some hands in the hand analysis section. I would like to learn to play cash games, can anybody help me with the best site to play on and how I should start out? Hope some people can make suggestions. Come on guys - this is a new player looking for advice. Telling him you want to hit him or that his post has put you on life tilt is hardly helpful - give the lad a break eh? :) Title: Re: Can I fold a set here? Telling him you want to hit him or that his post has put you on life tilt is hardly helpful - give the lad a break eh? :) I hope wannabe doesn't take anything to heart that's said here. When I first posted on hand analysis I got loads of what seemed like unhelpful and purely piss taking comments (Thanks Flushy) but they have helped my game and made me in to a winning player (not by much but it's better than losing :)). So read all the comments Wannabe and when people say things like they have here just remember that it comfirms how strongly they believe in what they're saying. Basically that your call was perfect :)up Title: Re: Can I fold a set here?
