Title: Lets Help each other
Post by: smithy69 on November 09, 2005, 12:10:04 PM
There was a topic earlier in the week where there was a suggestion that if we find a good value bet we let others know

I think I have found one

On eurosport tonight there is a friendly between Costa Rica and France in France.

On the booking front, there is a a bet regarding bookings. the spread is currently 7 - 10. with 10 being a booking and 25 for a red

So basically if there is one yellow card in the match you lose nowt, if there is more than one then you are in decent profit - 10/1 every booking

The costa ricans are south american, and are known for their volatile behaviour when they are losing, and more importantly when they are losing badly. The french shud stuff them tonight, and i thinkt here will be at least 2/3 bookings in the game.

What do other people think then ill let them know the site so we all do it at once so the spread doesnt get bigger

Looks too good to be true...a normal price for bookings in a competitive match is in the 30-40 range

If the price you quote is correct (and it is a low key friendly, so it might be) then you can stake £10 a point at 10, be prepared to lose £100, and get £100 of upside for every booking above the first one

PM me the site!!!

Is the bet ok, it wasnt a mistake on there part was it. I think its too good to be true surely

Title: Re: Lets Help each other
Post by: matt674 on November 09, 2005, 12:37:12 PM
just a quick pointer - the costa ricans are not south american they playout of the concaf zone as they are central american. most of their players are either based in europe or play in america. Whilst they are still from round that part of the world they are not as renown for their overly agressive style as the south americans and the game after all is a friendly and likely to be played at walking pace. the referee is likely to be a little more lenient than normal as well given as it is a friendly.

i think the market of 1 booking sounds about right to be honest

Title: Re: Lets Help each other
Post by: smithy69 on November 09, 2005, 01:05:35 PM
Costa Rica in the last 18 games - friendlys included they have been booked 43 times with 3 red cards

France in the last 10 games - 11 yellows - 2 reds

this gives you an average of 36 points per game so the spread of 7-10 is very very genorous in my opinion

Title: Re: Lets Help each other
Post by: TightEnd on November 09, 2005, 01:12:01 PM
Matt674 is of course right...but i am being offered a bet with finite downside and 10x return for each booking after the first

17 of us here at work are on via www.sportingindex.com at 10, and the price ain't moved

I like the fixed risk/high reward here

Title: Re: Lets Help each other
Post by: smithy69 on November 09, 2005, 01:15:11 PM
I agree its a friendly, but i just think it shouts value, if there are no bookings you lose 7 points - for the rewards that are possible i think its value

SHAME I CANT GET ON _ HURRY UP BETHILO

Title: Re: Lets Help each other
Post by: TightEnd on November 09, 2005, 01:16:58 PM
No you buy at 10, if there are no bookings you lose 10 points

it's how they make their money as odds setters, from the spread

Costa Rica in the last 18 games - friendlys included they have been booked 43 times with 3 red cards

France in the last 10 games - 11 yellows - 2 reds

this gives you an average of 36 points per game so the spread of 7-10 is very very genorous in my opinion

Of the 18 and 10 games for each respective nation how many of them were friendlies and how many were competative games?

if you have that info do you also have the bookings from just the friendly games? as a rule you tend to find that in friendlies there are nowhere near as many bookings or sending offs as in competative matches.

i reckon in a friendly it takes something really bad to get awarded a red card so if you take those out of the equation it leaves you with 54 bookings in 28 games. This would bring your average down to 19.28 points per game, if you half this because its a friendly you're down to 9.6 points.

Who knows - its a football match and anything can happen, a racially motivated incident could lead to a 22 man brawl and 5 red cards..........

I do agree that the booking total will be lower but I cannot see there being less than 1 booking

Title: Re: Lets Help each other

Ok I'm not so up-to-date with this kind of betting. I want to make sure I'm putting the right bet on....

I've clicked on "Bookings    7-10" ... now I take it I click on Higher than 10 .. and if say I want to put 200 quid on this I need to type in 20 quid?  Although when I try to do this the max it lets me do is £13.33. So max risk of £133.30. Is this right?

Title: Re: Lets Help each other
Post by: smithy69 on November 09, 2005, 01:32:55 PM
only do the bet if you think its value, its only my opinion that it seems a good bet

Title: Re: Lets Help each other
Post by: TightEnd on November 09, 2005, 01:34:37 PM
Coca, you are betting x per point...so if you are prepared to lose 200 quid then 20 per point is right (big hitter!!!)

the spread betting firms though require you to have sufficient funds in your account to withstand the maxiumum loss...hence I take it you have £133.30 in your account currently, that's why they are setting you a maximum stake

Title: Re: Lets Help each other
Post by: Coca919 on November 09, 2005, 01:35:28 PM
Nope, I actually wanted to put more than 200 on ..   I have 500 in my account. I just used that as an example.

Title: Re: Lets Help each other

I'm just always a little more wary when it comes to friendly matches where the outcome has no relevance, the number of times in the past i've had losing bets because either (a) the team arent trying or (b) the manager wants to try out 16 new formations and make 24 substitutions.

Title: Re: Lets Help each other
Post by: Coca919 on November 09, 2005, 01:37:04 PM
Ok I just noticed it says Min stake 10p and Max stake £13.33. I take it this is why I can do more....

whats the best bet you have ever done - value wise

My Top 2 are below

1)I remember betting on a tennis match on will hill, and it was in running. The thai player scripchon or something like that was playing, and he was the defending champ. Was playing a game and was odds on all the first set - he ended up 8/11 at 6-5 in the first set - he then broke the serve and won the 1st set. I was watching this live but the in play betting hadnt been stopped. I managed to get a lumpy bet on at 8/11.After about 10 secs it halted betting, came back up and he was 1/9.

I didnt bother laying it off and he won easily.

2) was in my local ladbrokes in town when liverpool were playing portsmouth in the fa cup - think it was 2 years ago now. Liverpool got a penalty and went to 1/7 as there were only 25 mins left, and portsmouth went out to 50/1.

Liverpool missed the penalty but the banner stayed up, I mentioned to the lad behind the counter who i knew and he told me to write a slip out quickly and if it was accepted he would stand it. I stupidly put only 5 on it, and the bet was accepted. Portsmouth then scored with 10 mins left

WHY DIDNT I HAVE 500 on it

Only time will tell ;)

I always remember one of my biggest single bets on the football was a few years back when luxembourg were playing a friendly. The team they were playing were offered up at even money and i couldnt believe this. Luxembourg have not won a game since about 1972 (and have only won 3 in their entire 90 odd year history) so i lumped on their opponents and at half time they were 3-0 up. having seen this i didnt bother to check the full time score and went into the betting shop the following day to collect my winnings only to find that my bet was a losing one according to the clerk. In disbelief i went home to check the score on the internet and found that luxebourg scored 3 second half goals for the first time in their history and i had done £500 down the drain - turns out their opponents stuck on a load of kids who hardly had any first team experience at half time because they thought they had the game won......

Forget the best one, here's the worst two I heard

A really good friend of mine (I was his best man) is a big rugby man and an even bigger spread bettor

In the 1995 rugby World cup he decided to sell New Zealand's points supremacy over Japan in a group game at something like 33. God knows why

The same day he was going for Sunday lunch at his fiancee's parents, the future father in law also being a rugby nut

He was just about to ask for the man's daughter's hand in marriage when the dad suggested they retire to another room to watch the rugby on telly and leave the ladies to it

The match started...50-0 at half time and something like 112-0 at full time for a loss of 75 units per point and a future father in law gushing all game about the All Blacks. He didn't ask the dad if he could marry the daughter that day and his future wife had no idea why, ever. Until the best mans' wedding speech.

Two, same guy thought Mark Ramprakash was the next big thing in English cricket back in 1994-5 before we all found out his temperament wasn't suited to test criket. He bought Ramps series runs at 233 before the start of the first test. He scores 0 and 1 and then breaks his wrist, out for the whole series. 232 point loss

Oh, how we laughed  :D

I do remember a friend placing a bet on Trap 7 in a 6 dog race. The bookies took his money, and he didn't have the bottle to go back and ask for his money back!

If trap 1 won it, it would be well worth a claim!

My dad has a good story when she met my mum. They went to the dogs and my mum went up and asked for a bet on the dog called VACANT TRAP. My dad swears blind this is true, and she backed it cos it must be a wolf in sheeps clothing as it had no form.LOL

If trap 1 won it, it would be well worth a claim!

Indeed - you wouldn't believe the sort of handwriting I had to put up with when I was a betting shop manager. We had one punter with a fabulous alcoholism/illiteracy combination which resulted in some very puzzled and flustered cashiers trying to work out what horse he was asking for a price on. I remember him once running up to the counter, grabbing a pen and slip and scrawling a line which was nothing more than a curve, whilst saying "20 quid". I knew he wanted trap 6 in the dog race just about to go off, but I fully expected the security team to send the bet back to me asking what the hell I was taking bets on.

Daytime TV made me a monkey.
When I used to live with the bird I watched a lot of tat on the telly.

Gmtv did a daily phone poll during the last serious of I'm a celebrity get me out of here. Every time someone got knocked out of the show it was also the person who got the least votes that morning on Gmtv.
On the last day Joe Pasquale had 68% of the vote on GMTV, the other 32% being split between two other guys.
Hills were still taking it at 1\4 so i popped 2G on.

Would anyone be able to give us an update on the footy tonight with regards to bookings - my sky is off

The worse thing i have ever done is during the lions tour. I backed the lions to win a tour match with a 15/16 handicap  - something like that

I wanted £200 pound on it at i think evens

They ended up winning by 2 of the handicap mark so i lost the bet.

When I checked later during the day, I noticed 1000 pounds missing from my account!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had pressed the 1 button I think when I pushed the 2- So it added a 1 onto the front of my intended bet

If it had been the other way round it would have returned the bet because i didnt have 2k in there, My stupidity and lack of checking cost me a grand

If they carry on getting outplayed in the second half like they did in the first one of the french could get booked for losing it a bit - gallas maybe for getting a bit overheated

Good thinking, bad research.  Excellent game though, bought the corners at 10.75 and 12 so I'm a happy bunny, 14 in the end.

whats the best bet you have ever done - value wise

Brazil to win World Cup 2002 and Ronaldo to be top goalscorer - 13-2 & 12-1
Denmark & Senegal to qualify from Group A at World Cup 2002 - 33-1 (Group had France in it)
Greece to beat Portugal in 1st game at Euro 2004 - 6-1
Middlesbrough to beat Man U in 2004 - 9-1

Won't tell u my losses.  :D

How much did you have on it?

Unfortunatley they were done separately because the golden boot was a free bet.

£100 on Brazil to win.

Denamark and senegal was my finest hour tho cos every1 said i was mad to bet against france.

Deactivate smug face.  8)

On the day of the Final between France and Brazil I was driving home in a hurry so as not to miss kick off. I heard about a problem with Ronaldo in the dressing room and as soon as I got in I chucked a bit of cash on France. Hills hadn't got wind of any problem and it was still a good price, happy days.

Don't ask me the year but I put my last £100 on Teenoso to win the Derby at 9/2, great horse, nice win.

my nicest win was Arsenal to beat Man City 4-0 a few seasons back.  They were 4-0 up at half time and for 45 mins I was nervous.  Final score came in at 4-0 and I had first to score (cant remember who)

Sadly, it was two seperate bets and I only had a couple of quid on it :D

Henry scored that wonder-goal volley from outside the area on the run.
