Title: Will the poker market decline further ??
Post by: Newmanseye on July 21, 2008, 02:21:29 AM
With the global economic recession upon us, what do you think it will mean for the internet poker phenomenon, will the games get harder again?

Bankrolls withdrawn to help the recreational player with life's essentials

what will it do to the pros?

discuss

I think last sunday was a record field for the stars million so no indication of a decline there, the online game is getting harder imo.less american fish able 2 get money into their empty accounts is one reason, another is that there is so much good info out now(books, training sites), that standards have improved.im referring 2 nl holdem of course. Other games might not have the same lvl of expertise, razz or omaha hi-lo.

Well there are two new iPoker skins that are directly targeted at Asia. But I would guess that all the big poker rooms will try and get their share.

Are they playing across the whole network, or just on the individual sites?  So you can play them on Blonde?

The chinese market is deffo the value at the moment for the rest of us, but at the same time I reckon they will learn quicker than any other group in poker, so enjoy it while you can. Poker is also more widely advertised (TV adverts, Sky Poker, channel 5 and channel 4 shows) so there are plenty of new fish coming in that way too.

Regarding the credit crunch and all that, I doubt it will greatly affect poker. The gamblers wont let something like that stop em and might do it more. Lots of poker players are students/live with their parents and also even though times are clearly bad, its not as bad it seems, its just much more widely reported than previous recessions (Im basing all this on what Martin Lewis says, the man is a god).

That said, its convinced me not to bother looking for a house and my petrol bill bit me in the ass yesterday.

with 1,321,851,888 (ish) chinese the chinese market is going to explode within the next10/20 years if they catch up with the rest of the modernised world.
