Title: Avoid BT! Post by: sledge13 on July 22, 2008, 03:20:27 PM Cancelling my electric, gas etc as I am renting my house out and finally came to Sky and Bt (Broadband and phoneline), Sky grab an extra months payment off you (30 days cancellation notice) which is a bit of a rip off but I guess thats not too painful...but now to Bt...
Earlier in the year I downgraded to a cheaper broadband option as I only surf and play poker really, so on the phone today and turns out that when going to a cheaper package you are automatically put into an 18 month contract! so I will be paying till Oct 09 for something I wont use, spoke to 6 different people on the phone and they will not budge an inch, I said I will cancel the direct debit and they said "you will get a bad credit rating for an unpaid bill". Spoke to friends who are with other suppliers and they dont have this ridic 18 month no get out clause, this is what you get for 8 years loyalty...rant over dont use Bt where possible! Did they tell you you were signing on for another 18 months? If not, their oral contract is not worth the paper it's written on. Title: Re: Avoid BT! Bt putting their customers first ;tracet;

If you broke a contract with them they'd have threatened legal action. Trying to taunt you with a bad credit rating shows they are in a weak position. Tell them to whistle for the rest. Unless you're planning on buying a new house any time soon (which you shouldn't be) who cares about a bad credit rating - the days of cheap credit are over for everyone. Title: Re: Avoid BT! Really? they sounded very adamant that I had to pay 18 months no matter what and would even send the recorded telephone conversation...and if I dont pay a poor credit rating in the future for an unpaid bill. Even Sky wont tie you into an 18 month contract ffs.
I have totaly dumped BT ever after they started charging me for paying my bill, what is that all about? Demand either a copy of your contract which you have signed or a copy of the phone conversation that confirms that you were made aware of the 18 month contract and your rights to back as part of the distance selling regulations. They sent us a bill for the installation and the price plan, we paid the installation fee but not the price plan charge and told them where to go.
Just get on to their customer service department (prepare to speak to 15 different people over the course of around 2 hours). Will be interested to see how you get on with this.
