Title: Does this mean what I think it does?......curious Grosvenor Text Post by: tikay on July 22, 2008, 11:21:33 PM Incoming from Grosvenor Walsall. (My enboldement). "£200 DCF @ Grosvenor Walsall on Saturday 26h July, 8.30pm start, no reg fee, pot raked at 10%. Buffet from 8pm". So..... 1) Has the once-wonderful monthly £300 now died, & been replaced by this? 2) "Pot Raked at 10%" - does that mean they deduct 10% from the Prize Pool? Financially, that'd be like the difference in "Tax Paid" or not in Betting Shops until the Tax was abolished - i.e., not much difference, only winners pay really. But I hate the notion of Prize Pools being interfered with - that's the thin end of the wedge. I may be wrong, maybe it means something else, but if it means what I think it does, I shall resist strongly. Prize Pools must remain sacrosant. IMO, of course. ;) Let's hope I've got the wrong end of the stick. Title: Re: Does this mean what I think it does?......curious Grosvenor Text Post by: Robert HM on July 22, 2008, 11:24:29 PM Ouch, that way they get more than they would if it were a 10% reg fee.

I'm not OK with 10% lopped of the Prize Pool. Not at all. Where will that end?...... Title: Re: Does this mean what I think it does?......curious Grosvenor Text Post by: TightEnd on July 22, 2008, 11:26:16 PM do you think though that it might attract some waverers on the basis that its reg fee unless they cash?
presumably its designed to be incentive, even if in practice its unhelpful Title: Re: Does this mean what I think it does?......curious Grosvenor Text Post by: Graham C on July 22, 2008, 11:26:48 PM Ouch, that way they get more than they would if it were a 10% reg fee. whilst making it sound like a great offer, sneeky. Reg free tournament poker is about to become far more common in a few popular series........ It's so much harder for many folks to know what the % deduction is that way. It could be 10%, 12.5%, 15%, & many would never realise. Prize Pools are not there to be messed with, however pure the intention. Correct. It started with one Series, & is about to spread to another. Then another....Exciting times. I agree with you, I am merely saying its a marketing gimmick designed to obfuscate and appeal to the "maybes" who might be swayed by this. (by me). 10% off the Prize Pool - anything off the Prize Pool - is not. I'd accept, if I had to, £180 +£25, £30, or £40. But nothing off the Prize Pool. Purlease! There's so much competition these days (Luton £250 2 dayer fri night, whole GUKPT Week next for example) I think its quite a msguided ploy Title: Re: Does this mean what I think it does?......curious Grosvenor Text Post by: tikay on July 22, 2008, 11:35:51 PM do you think though that it might attract some waverers on the basis that its reg fee unless they cash? presumably its designed to be incentive, even if in practice its unhelpful No, we - sorry I - will never be happy if they start taking money out of the Prize Pool.
