Title: Laptops Post by: snoopy1239 on July 24, 2008, 11:15:42 PM Hi. Have Parallels on my Mac, but something is wrong with it and the connection is intermiitent.
Does anyone have a cheap laptop they want to sell? Is there anywhere I could by a cheap one? Is Ebay a good idea? All I need it for is to download a poker site, multitable 4 tables and use Poker Tracker 3 with a wifi connection. That's it. What's minimum requirements? any advice much appreciated. Title: Re: Laptops Post by: Bongo on July 24, 2008, 11:35:02 PM Fix your existing one?
Is the problem just in parallels or Mac as a whole? Have you downloaded the latest version of parallels and installed the tools? I'm not too worried about the battery life to be honest. I'd always be near a plug. I literally just need it for playing poker in my room, nothing else. Title: Re: Laptops Post by: kinboshi on July 24, 2008, 11:43:58 PM Well, Bongo's mentioned battery life.
Then there's the small hard drives, lack of memory and far from 'current' processors. Screens aren't great either. Wouldn't fancy PT running on them when the database is a decent size. Have you downloaded the latest version of parallels and installed the tools? The problem's just in Parallels. I could try reinstalling Parallels and Windows, but it's a pain in the arse and I have the cheap (no manual, no customer service) edition of windows and am worried it will not accept the key again. Just thought buying a cheap laptop would be easier. I'm really stupid at computers, but how do I download the latest version of parallels and install the tools? I have Parallels tools installed at the moment, and have done since I bought Parallels last yr. Title: Re: Laptops Post by: Bongo on July 24, 2008, 11:46:03 PM When you open parallels there's a check for updates option in one of the menus (either parallels or help I think).
Try that first, then it might be worth changing the connection settings for parallels. Think I had to do that to get it to work - will check later. Again, small hard drive no worry, it would just be Poker Tracker 3 and maybe a couple of poker clients. Not sure about memory and processors. What do you think minimum requirements would be if that was all I wanted to do (obviously with expanding Poker Tracker)? Yes, it's weird, Internet is fine on Mac, but on Windows, it's intermittent (ie. goes on and off 20 secs a time), and impossible to play poker. Also, and I don't know whether this is a clue to the problem, but the cursor has suddenly gone jerky and either sticks momentarily or spurts off all of a sudden. Not sure why this has happened, I don't think I changed anything. I thought maybe I didn't have enough space, so I deleted some big files, but it made no difference. By Jove, I think you were right, it looks like reinstalling parallels tools has done the job. It's early doors yet, but my cursor isn't jerking anymore. You're now officially my favourtie person that has anything to do with Bongos, including the makers of Um Bongo! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and there I was about to send you to my items for sale on ebay, and yes I do sell 2nd user laptops and not all of them have naff batteries, all batteries are tested and the time they last our documented in the ebay description. To be perfectly honest the feedback system is a great guide on ebay, obviously like anything it is not 100% safe but someone with a large number of feedback and anything from 99.5% is a good guide as to whether the items are going to be as described. A lot of people diss ebay but the fact is it is now the biggest retailer in the UK in terms of turnover and internet sales are the future for the UK especially once the recession hits home in the next 12 months or so.
