I'm quite easily pleased with films, but this is probs one of the biggest letdowns from the last couple of years, considering the budget anyway...

I thought the initial attack by the aliens was quite good - the way it happens in the background as Tom Cruise is running away.

But then it goes all meh. Not helped by the fact they stuck quite closely to the book, which finishes 'it was really bad then they all died, the end', which doesn't make for a big climax.

Except for the small detail of the Martians actually coming from Mars to attack earth in the book, rather than being already here in some sort of Scientology nonsense (possibly).

It gets its 1,000,000 showing on Itv tonight but Spielbergs best "Jaws" is the film that blew me away the 1st time I saw it.

Think that was more so it wasn't just Independence Day with added tripods.
