OK, we start play in 2 minutes time, at 2pm Dutch "local" time.

Should be a great day, with plenty of our boys in contention.

Hope you can join us!

No sign of Jen yet, she was shattered yesterday, so I have not rung her, she'll be across later. Meanwhile, I'M IN CHARGE.......

Am trying to glean the overnight chip counts, if I find them, you will have them straight away.

Tikay would you keep an eye on Paddy O'Connor, Ken Corkery and Jim Ried for me? They are the last of the Irish left in and all three have less than average. If you cannot find the chip counts then they are available http://mambo.pokerpages.com/mambo/index.php?option=com_simpleblog&task=view&id=470 (http://mambo.pokerpages.com/mambo/index.php?option=com_simpleblog&task=view&id=470) along with seat numbers.

Yes, I am set up in the corner just as before, only more awake and less confused by everything.

There are chip counts somewhere - we are just in the process of finding them.  I have heard there is breakfast lurking round the corner and seeing as this might be a long day (playing til the final) we're off for ten minutes to nab some.

Paddy is table 22 seat 7. Ken is the cardroom manager in Cork and is table 15 seat 9 (next to John Kabbaj).

The chipleader yesterday I would have estimated at having around 120,000.  In fact, Josef Kollaritz has built now a stack of nearly 200,000, almost three times that of his closest runner-up.  He is on the same table as the charismatic Bruno Fitoussi, but the rate at which he has knocked out players may have led to it being broken already... off to see, and check on Paddy etc.

Just bumped into John Shipley - he's moved up from 8,500 overnight to 20,000.

When they talk about "best players in Europe" this fella rarely gets a mention, but believe me, he's right up there with the best, Live and online. He keeps a low profile, and is a quiet, shy man. But when he gives you the staredown, it's cheek clenching time. He has an awesome table presence - like, for example, Peter Roche, Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer - some guys can just send a shiver down your spine by looking at you. The Ship is one of them.

Hi Boo, yes, we will Ty & get p;ics today, but we are effectively banned from takng pics here, & we have to make a judgement call between getting thown out, & being here till the end. Others ARE taking pics, so we will have to decide how to play it. We know how important pics are, but we sure can't take 'em if we get thrown out.

Softly softly, we will start pushing the line as the day goes on, & see what happens.....

Junior experienced the Shipley stare at Walsall in January, Juniors first ever biggie, in which he got second to El Blondie & picked up a whopping £37k.
[/quot

Break time, & Junior says to me (I'm railbirding him) "who that gyuy who keeps giving me the stare of death?".

Minutes later, The Ship says to me, "Hey Tony, who IS that kid who keeps staring back at me & pushing in on me?".......

Hi Tikay & Jen

Whats the payout structure for the event?

Thanks

Post by: Djinn on November 10, 2005, 02:14:05 PM
Hi Balloo -

The payouts are currently not in paper form (apart from the percentages of the pool per place which I've got somewhere) but someone said they were scrolling across a screen somewhere so I'll see what I can note down before I get that seasick feeling.

Hello Surprise -

Isabelle is still in, although has gone down to about 11,000.  Will keep you posted, of course.

Other counts:

Malcolm McKinlay (Red Fox)  15,500
Ken Corkery       12,500 (well, he's the guy next to John Kabbaj)
Thomas Middleton  65,000
T. Fougeron   70,000
Noah Boeken  36,000
Bruno Fitoussi  80,000 (just moved to Noah's left)
John Kabbaj    37,000

Tikay doing the next two tables, so you can have a constant stream of information.  Having a bit of trouble identifying some of the players so it's time for the old name-requesting routine I reckon.

Post by: luckyblind on November 10, 2005, 02:16:44 PM

Ken Corkery       12,500 (well, he's the guy next to John Kabbaj)

Ask him his name Jen, If you don't understand him then it is Ken! Tell him I said hello and good luck!

There are 78 players remaining - unfortunately I reckon Paddy O'Connor is not one of them as his seat is currently occupied by Red Fox.

Title: Re: Amsterdam Master Classics, Day Two Live Update
Post by: tikay on November 10, 2005, 02:21:58 PM
Rob Hollink OUT, & we are down to around 80 players, & they are falling thick & fast.

Rob moved in with  Jd Qd and was in bad shape against Matey Boys  Ah Qh.

The  6d 8d  9c flop gave him hope, & a few extra outs, but they never came.

Medanwhile, news of a special blondeite who's motoring........

Title: Re: Amsterdam Master Classics, Day Two Live Update
Post by: Djinn on November 10, 2005, 02:34:20 PM
A rather sheepish-looking Julian just knocked out Paul Alterman in this fashion: Paul raised to 3k, found Julian with  Kh Jh and ready to reraise to 12k.  When Paul moved all-in for 10k more, Julian called and found  Qc Qd.  A flush came to knock him out though, and Julian is up to 65,000 - pretty good shape for this stage of Day 2.  His table just lost another player making the same move with  Kd Js but finding no help against  Ad Tc.  The field is thinning fairly rapidly.

The announcement music has just come on, signifying the rise of blinds to 500 - 1,000 with a 200 ante.  The numerous short stacks are going to find this make or break time.  There seems an unusual sort of gap between the 10-20k stacks and the 50-60k ones, so I reckon now might be an exciting time to watch as they go for doubleups.

Tim Flanders 9k. "How's pippa doing?" - "24k Tim"........

Noah Boeken 55k

Isabelle, her stack down to the "any A will do" size, moves in with  As 2d

She gets looked up, unsurprisingly, by Billy Big Stack with  Ac Kh

She hits her deuce, and is up to 29k....!

I'm pleased about that, because it's nice when her Mum is railbirding her daughter on blonde. The Camel says I'm all soft & yukky, he's not wrong, but I like nice stories.

I can't help but think some of these guys are playing this a little too fast. With blinds at 500-1,000, & a running ante of 200, players with 20k still have time, it's costing 3,500-4,000 per round.  No need to panic, imo, but theres plenty of pushing in happening, & we are losing players at a fair lick.

The Ken Gunning fairytale continues. Qualified on Sporting Odds, never played a biggie, he's having a ball. I was charged with providing him with fresh shirts daily, & I've bought three for him. He said this morning he's superstitious, & I have to give him an identical shirt each morning, same time, same place.... He lives in Jersey, and is just loving every minute of it. But he asked me for some advice this morning, how to play from here on in. "More of the same Ken". I did not dare say anything else!

Meanwhile, Wiilliam Hiil's sole runner this week is Thewy, I don't know why Xuyen & Steve are not here, but Thewy's doing ominously well.......

As a curiosity, I wonder why Stuart Fox has never picked up sponsorship. Great game, polite & well-mannered, good looking boy, I am sure his turn will come. There are plenty of less-deserving players who do have deals. Stu has the advantage of being popular, & he's fairly high profile, as the blondeites love him. blonde has become a major force in UK Poker Forums, we get decent traffic these days, so to have a guy who gets plenty of mentions must be worth something. Are you listening, Mr Sponsor Fairy?

But I'm a Fray Bentos man. Reckon I hold the world record for eating most Fray Bento xSteak & Kidney Pies. Slightly undercooked, so the pastry is nice & gooey. Home made special recipe gravy - Bisto Granules with a teaspoon of mint sauce, a tin of John West Tinned Potatoes. Heaven.

Sverre has been moved to Marcel's table and looks somewhat disappointed with his perfectly reasonable stack as he just doubled up a short stack's  Js Qd with his  Ac Kd.

I have to agree with you, Trace - but I have to say your English pies don't really do it for me.  Give me an all-American pumpkin pie, or, even better, a lemon meringue one... mmmm.

They are not pies in the true sense of the word, like the language we gave you, you've messed about with it until its unrecognisable

So bye bye (Miss American pie)

Malcolm McKinlay (Red Fox) OUT -

He saw a flop involving Q 10 x with two other players, and moved in with  Kd Js.  Unfortunately, Marcel Luske holding  Ac Qd moved over the top and with no improvement he's out around the 48-player stage.

John Kabbaj up to 68,000 after picking up  Kc Kh and finding an aggressive player making a big raise in front of him, which he was then obliged by the size of the pot to follow all-in with  7c 8c.  That 50k pot puts John right back in it.

Just saw a rather unfortunate young player get involved with a blinds battle in the big blind holding Queens.  How was he to know that the small blind, the only other player in the pot was actually holding KK?

Hoody-wearing youngster Thomas Middleton just took out Noah Boeken, who wasn't exactly short stacked.  I missed the detail, as Thomas was counting his 130,000 when I got there.

Other counts:

Julian Thew  85,000
Isabelle Mercier  40,000
Torstein Iversen 120,000
William Thorson   41,000
Ville Wahlbeck    19,000

Blinds are now at the rather odd 500 - 1,500 ante 300.  The blind posters are getting a bit edgy now - I saw three bb re-raises take pots from late position raisers in the five minutes I spent wandering through the pit last time.

Players who've decreased in chips a little over the last blind level (they're now 1k - 2k ante 400):

Stuart Fox       65,000
Julian Thew     75,000
Sverre Sundbo  45,000
Jin Cai Lin         20,000
Steve Jelinek    52,000

And the increasers:
Pippa Flanders   61,000
Chicken Joe     110,000
Isabelle Mercier  60,000

About the same:
Jim Reid        48,000
Ville Wahlbeck  24,000

Thewy clashes with Jin Cai Lin. Jin was down to 20k, and is in the SB, Thewy in the BB.

Jin makes up, Thewy checks. We see this flop......

 Qs 8d 4d

Jin checks, Thewy bets 10k, Jin moves all-in for 20k or so, Thewy beats him into the pot & has his cards on their back all in one movement.

Jin shows  Qd 4c, Thewy shows  Jd 3d.

Turn brings the  Td, river is the  Ah

Next case!

as Milky Bar Kid says, Thewy likes to go in with the worst of it, & come out with the best of it. He is VERY focused today. Mrs Thew has arrived today, & he wants to impress methinks. Quite right too.

And here's a beautifully characteristic Bruno Fituoissi play.

Matey Boy, young gun, in mid-position, makes it 10k to go, Bruno, on the Button, thinks awhile, stares the young man down for fully 30 seconds, then calls.

Flop comes..... As 7d Ac

Young Gun bets 10k quickly.

Bruno looks at him. Hard. For about 3 minutes. Kid is pooing himself, he's sweating, he's shaking, he's melting, poor lad.

Bruno fires in 25k. Kid passes.

Marcel says to Bruno "9-10 of Hearts Bruno?". Bruno smiles. "Nope, 4 aces".......

Priceless to watch these guys, Bruno has SUCH table presence.

Men against boys.

Special SportingOdds-shirt wearing Ken Gunning had gotten dangerously low a few minutes ago, and doubled up off the imposing Bruno Fitoussi with (I think it was) K7.  He hit a King on the flop and another on the river putting Bruno's 78 in bad shape.  But since that very short moment, he's been staying afloat and now has a reasonable 31,000.

Just saw Marcel Luske take out the 50k+ stack sat to his right with an  Ah Kc (Marcel) vs  Jh Js (other guy) race.  The  Ac came on the flop and he's almost doubled up.  So the two big stacks, Marcel and Bruno, are yet to be involved in a major confrontation, but I might just go stand there and watch just in case.

Norwegian Legend Sverre Sundbo just found the  Ah Ad at the time that Ville Wahlbeck was making an all-in move with  Qc 7h.  He takes him out and increases his stack to 60,000.

Trace - there are 30 players left - 3 til the money-back money!  We'll get there before dinner, I reckon, which is in half an hour.

As the bubble draws ever nearer (and Tikay gets repeatedly chucked out of the pit for not having a press pass) we have managed to sneak in for a minute or two at a time to bring you this news:

Thomas Middleton  130,000
Julian Thew           125,000
Torstein Iversen      75,000

Bad news for the ladies: Kate Szeremeta and Isabelle Mercier are OUT

But Pippa Flanders has shot up to 120,000 in the last hour.

Stuart Fox 115k

Steve Jelenik, 48k.

Yup, I got thrown out of the Arena, for not having a Press Pass. We applied 6 weeks ago, got all the relevant permissions from the Director of Communication & Marketing, but they never gave us an actual pass. We are not interfering with play, or the players, just wandering past the tables getting counts. The other Updaters have all been ejected, too. The young lady was, shall we say, "curt" with me. "Just doing my job", she said........

To be fair, unlike the other Updaters, we do have a little press "table", Jen & I are tucked away in a corner, with a power socket, which is more than the other guys have got. They have to keep running back to their hotels to do Updates!

The sooner poker gets itself organised, with a proper governing body to work in the best interests of the game as a whole, the better.

Everyone at Casino Holland has been jolly nice to us, but you can sense it's Government controlled, lots of "jobsworths" around.

Never mind, Jen is still getting away with being in the arena. Girlie, see? I'm gonna put my pink frock on tomorrow, & crop top (no bra).

Ken Gunning is hanging on as short stack, but picked up a 10,000 pot while I was loitering to put him on 21,000.

Chicken Joe is racing to the top of the field and must have over 150k.

Sverre is looking comfortable with his 103,000, but says he can't wait for the dinner break (in 15 mins) he's so hungry.

Bruno Fitoussi and Stuart Fox both have around 120,000.

Ken Gunning is the rather unfortunate bubble - his short-stacked all-in with  Ad Jc met Sverre's  Ac 5h, which looked good until the five came out and knocked him out 28th.  He looked a tad disappointed but should be pleased overall with turning his qualification into such a near miss.  This does mean that the remaining players are in the money (€5,000 at least).

A new floor guy has emerged who does not seem to believe I am with the press, and I think the "I've got a pass, it's just over there" line is going to work again.  So please bear with us as we struggle for press affirmation, after which chip counts will follow.

The sudden total press crackdown has left us somewhat frustrated and bemused.  There are helpful staff people floating about, like the nice lady who photocopied the players' names and positions for us.  I am going to write down identifying features from the spectator area, if possible.  Tikay will pass on what has just been passed on to us.

Title: Re: Amsterdam Master Classics, Day Two Live Update
Post by: tikay on November 10, 2005, 08:36:04 PM

We have all - ALL the Updaters - been banned from the Tournament Area now.  Adele is bringing us ad-hoc updates whenever she can. She is very apologetic for our situation "it's not my fault, I'm very sorry".......

Nobody seems to know upon whose orders we have been banished, or, more pertinently, why.  The Communications Director, who approved our request to cover the event, is nowhere to be seen. The "curt" lady is having a meal, so we can't ask her. The atmo around the arena has gone sour, because nobody at all can go anywhere near the arena. Tim Flanders can't even sweat Pippa, though she can cope, no worries there.

All very strange.

But somehow, we will keep the basic info coming.

Erich Kollman is out in 26th.  His  Ad Js ran into Torstein Iversen's  Kh Kc.

Then I got thrown out again.

Title: Re: Amsterdam Master Classics, Day Two Live Update
Post by: tikay on November 10, 2005, 08:47:12 PM
Jen is STEAMING, a sight to behold......

She got thrown out for the 4th time, she's nothing if not brave & persistent. This time she reasoned with Mr Bouncer Man.

"It's Press only".

"But i am Press".

"Yes, but if we let all the press in, there would be loads of you".

"But there are NO Press in here now"........

"No, because we have asked you all to leave".......

"Why is that?"

"Because Press are not allowed in".

That's cleared THAT up then.

Just to reiterate, we did get full permission, well in advance, as we always do.

Pippa Flanders is OUT in 25th.  Her  Ad Qd was up against  Js 9s which spiked a nine on the river to send her out with a shrug.  All credit to Adele in the pit who is relaying details of all the main hands to me as I loiter by the entrance.

Sverre doubles up Smits with   Ah Qs vs Ac Js as the Jack comes up, leaving him down at 60,000 and Smits up to 45,000.

Ben Roberts and Torsten Iverson clash.

 Ad Ts 2h

Ben walks into the trap, the turn and river are   Qc 4h

Ben Roberts, a true gent, is OUT. I believe he gives his nationality as "Persian", not something you hear often these  days.

Rough counts from table 23:

Julian Thew        210,000
Michael Andersson 160,000
Josef Kollarits        30,000
Rino Mathis         32,000
Frank Sinopoli       60,000

Youngster Arne Mews news now - he just had  Ah Ac vs  Js Jc (belonging to the now very short stacked Rino Mathis) and pretty much doubled through.  He qualified on BetandWin, and apparently has been playing just a month, or some such ridiculously short amount of time.  Now with over 200k, he is in pretty good shape with three short-handed tables remaining, as they are now.  One more out and they make it two tables.

Ok I have spent most of today doing a report then clicked over to check on thewy (and missclicked work :( ) and lost a days work. I am now extremely miffed- thewy had better win this now to cheer me up.

S. Smits OUT in 16th.  I have spent the last half hour watching Marcel Luske push his table around, with the one exception of Johan Storakers who moved all-in on the big blind after Marcel made it 26k to go.  But there has only been one flop and that one was picked up on the steal by young I. Bulychev.  I know 'cos I saw his cards.  His friend has been standing as close behind him as the staff will allow the whole day.  He'll know his first name, I'll bet.

This is some of Thewy's table - Jen can identify them if need be.

Stuart Fox has gone down to about 80,000, and gave the International Sign of the Wavy Hand to signify that the last blind level (3k - 6k ante 1k) had gone only so-so.  But he's happily sipping a pint and still looks pretty relaxed.

a big up to Mrs T  for having faith. Behind every Man there must be a good woman. I think i'm going soppy in my old age.

Blinds have just gone to 5k -10k, with a 1k running ante. 22/23k per orbit - short-handed, soon causes  pain to the shorties.

With the blinds suddenly a bit crushing, I reckon the pace might pick up a bit and it might be worth my while lurking in the spectator area.

News of some action coming in from Jen any second now.....

Title: Re: Amsterdam Master Classics, Day Two Live Update
Post by: Djinn on November 10, 2005, 11:43:31 PM
As predicted, three players have gone out in 5 minutes!

15th - Janne Juutilianen
14th - Arne Mews
13th - Stuart Fox     They all take €13,200

Stuart suffered a nasty beat with  As Ks vs  Ad Qc (held by all-in mover Jan Sorensen) which, when the Queen popped out on the turn, took him to 40k, then pushed with  7s 7h and found   Ad 8h against him which hit the Ace.

Continuing the action, Svado Sevo is OUT in 12th, winning €15,840, as does 11th place finisher Ilya Bulychev.

They are doing something they call "hand over hand" now.
