Title: 2008/09 Football prediction competition Post by: Matt50 on August 04, 2008, 02:18:33 PM Would people be interested in entering a competition i would be willing to run where you would have to predict the outcome of 10 events over the course of the season. All entries would have to be submitted prior to the start of the Premiership season and the events would be as follows:
First player to score a hat-trick in a Premiership game First team to score 5 or more goals in a Premiership game First Premiership manager to leave their club (sacked or resign) First player to be sent off in a Premiership game Non Premiership team to go furthest in the FA Cup Non Premiership team to go furthest in the League Cup Leading English goalscorer in the 5 World Cup qualifying matches this season British team to go furthest in the Champions League British team to go furthest in the UEFA Cup First player to miss a penalty in a Premiership game For each question you will make 3 selections. You will gain points depending on which selection is correct (6 pts for your 1st selection, 3 for your 2nd and 1 for your 3rd) Entry fee will be $20 which can be shipped to me on Stars and i will keep the competition updated throughout the season. Winnings will be paid depending on the number of entrants. I would like at least 8 people in it to make it worthwhile. I will enter so we are up and running with 1 ;) All entries to be posted on here and monies shipped by midnight Friday 15th August to be eligible to play. Title: Re: 2008/09 Football prediction competition Post by: Matt50 on August 05, 2008, 11:40:09 AM Just for clarification so that everyone understands how it will work. You make 3 selections for each question. For example Question 1 - First player to score a hat-trick in a premiership game.
You choose: 1) Rooney 2) Torres 3) Gerrard If Rooney gets the first hat-trick you score 6 pts, if it is Torres you get 3 pts and if it is Gerrard you get 1 point. No further points are then awarded, irrespective of whether any more hat-tricks are scored by any of your players. So only 1 of your selections can gain you points, but you gain more points if it is your first choice rather than your second or third. If 2 players or teams achieve the same thing on the same day the winning player or team will be the one that happens first, whether that be in an earlier kick off, or if the 2 games kick off at the same time then the team or player that achieve it first. If 2 teams/players tie for any answer then points will be divided by the number of winning teams. For example, if 4 non prem teams made the quarter finals of the FA cup and all lost then if you had selected one of them you would get a quarter of any points due to you. If anyone has any questions on any of the rules then please ask - would rather it got cleared up before the season started. First hat-trick First sending off First player to miss penalty First team to score 5 goals First managerial change If no-one has any of the correct answers (i.e agbonlahor to score first hat-trick) then it will carry over to the second player to score until somebody is correct. With regards to the other questions, if nobody has the correct guesses then no points will be awarded. Hope this is okay with everyone, as it keeps the interest going a bit longer. Title: Re: 2008/09 Football prediction competition Post by: Matt50 on August 18, 2008, 11:02:24 AM Confirmed prize payouts:
1st - $120 2nd - $60 3rd - $40 And last place will win $20 Well the first weekend of the season didnt see anyone pick up any points. Tighty would have been hoping that Dean Ashton could add to his early brace to secure the first hat trick points, whilst no-one had Agbonlahor so the quest for points will continue. Yesterday saw a few people with hopes at half-time of Chelsea scoring 5 goals but it wasnt to be, but both Pelham Boy and Nakor would have had high hopes when Aston Villa got their fourth goal with 15 minutes still to play. No sending offs and no missed penalties, so after the first weekend of games no points have been scored. Title: Re: 2008/09 Football prediction competition Post by: Matt50 on February 05, 2009, 10:21:53 AM Derby's run to the semi-final of the League Cup saw DaveShoelace pick up another 3 points (they were tied with Burnley) and go joint top of the table with Steelio.
With the Champions League and UEFA cup due to get back under way soon, it looks like it is going to be a tight finish. Especially at the bottom between Tighty and Kin to see who wins their money back!!!! Table: Steelio 13 DaveShoelace 13 Dino1980 12 Rookie(Rodney) 7 Cia260895 6 Nakor 6 TheChipPrince 6 Matt50 6 PelhamBoy 3 ChipRich 3 Kinboshi 0 TightEnd 0 Title: Re: 2008/09 Football prediction competition Post by: TheChipPrince on February 05, 2009, 10:25:15 AM Which categories are left?

Forgot about this, think these are the ones left, Matt will have to confirm Leading English goalscorer in the 5 World Cup qualifying matches this season British team to go furthest in the Champions League British team to go furthest in the UEFA Cup Non Prem team to go furthest in FA Cup Title: Re: 2008/09 Football prediction competition Post by: Matt50 on March 16, 2009, 01:57:54 PM Right, i have updated the table with the UEFA cup and FA cup results.
No-one managed to pick up points in the FA cup with Coventry having the best run of all non premiership sides. In the UEFA cup Rookie picked up 3 points by picking Man City to be the best placed British side. There was 1 point each for DaveShoelace, Steelio and TheChipPrince, and also their first points to Tightend and Kinboshi ;) Table: Steelio 14 DaveShoelace 14 Dino1980 12 Rookie(Rodney) 10 TheChipPrince 7 Cia260895 6 Nakor 6 Matt50 6 PelhamBoy 3 ChipRich 3 Kinboshi 1 TightEnd 1 With just 2 events to be completed it looks like Steelio is going to win it as he has Rooney to be top england goalscorer in the World Cup Qualifiers.
