He was closely followed by former international footballer Teddy Sheringham who was said to be "playing a lot of hands" by my secret source.
----------- As I was lingering over Dana, awaiting the perfect opportunity to request a percentage, table mates Andrew Gibb (pictured) and the wonderfully named Peter Wigglesworth tangled in a nasty set over set confrontation. I only caught the end of the hand, but as a host of chips sailed in on the river of a 2-3-9-5-K board, Andrew was understandably dismayed to see that his pocket twos had been more than caught up by Peter's pocket cowboys. As a result, Andrew's stack was disected in half and he was left to repeat the word "sick" under his breath as his opponent quietly raked in the pot. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19682&g2_serialNumber=1) ---------- Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=369) Herbert (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=369) echos the victim from the previous post by mumbling the word "sick" to himself and shaking his head profusely. Sadly, for curiosity purposes, I didn't get to see his hand, but the board read 7h Ts Aspades Tc 7c and opponent John Earle (pictured) was sitting pretty, and smugly, with Ad Td. Even as I departed the table, Richard was still beaming a disgruntled expression, so I can only assume he had a similarly nutty hand. Unlike before, Richard's stack has been more than bisected as he now sits with just a few thousand in chips. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19660&g2_serialNumber=1) ---------- Sacha Ordelheide is one of a handful of early eliminations to be forced to chew on dust. His exit emerged in rather surprising circumstances as he gambled with a flush draw and pushed with Td 6d on a 8d Jd 4s flop. Less surprisingly, Q Tran (pictured) looked him up quicker than a hiccup with 8c 8s. A 4c turn triggered an academic 2d river and that was all she wrote for Sacha who swiftly exited stage left. Rob Taylor was happy to see a raise in front of him when he looked down to see those cheeky cowboys. He re-popped the initial 350 raise to 1,100 from the small blind, only to then find the big blind re-raising to 3,000! He ummed and ahhed but as I'd already revealed he made the decision to lay them down and was rewarded by being shown Aces. Sweet! Here is Rob shortly after his impressive fold, only 1,100 chips worse off. Cheap as chips. He was seen wandering around shoeless in the casino as the £12 shoes he'd bought to replace his illegal trainers were "very uncomfortable". Tut, tut, tut! He won last year's London leg of the GUKPT and made another final, impressing many a pundit with his play. He's just off the back of a successful trip to Vegas where he ran deep in the 5k event and won one of the bellagio 1k events, winning a total of $140,000 or so. Not a bad summer...
The young Canadian looks to have a bright future ahead of him in poker. The players are quietly getting on with the business in hand without too much fuss or noise. One player who I thought would buck this trend was Roberto Romanello, the effusive Welshman nearly always good for some exciting table banter.
However the grey clouds outside appear to have taken their toll even on the normally irrepressible Roberto who was sat there, uncharacteristically quiet and meek. Give him a couple of hours and I'm sure he'll be chirping away though. We won't get official chip counts until after level four but in the meantime we're keeping our eyes peeled for some of the bigger stacks. If you have any specific players, you'd like us to go check on, let us know and we'll hunt them down ;) As JC said, we'll have to wait for the full chip counts, but for now, here are a few I accrued upon my last outing: John Kabbaj -- 18,500 Julian Thew -- 9,550 Paul Smallwood -- 7,200 Ken Wong -- 20,600 Sunny Chattha -- 6,975 Dan Carter -- 5,850 Dave Smith -- 19,500 Richard Stanley -- 4,825 Chaz Chattha -- 8,325 Willie Tann -- 9,550 Darren Shallis -- 4,175 Dana Immanuel -- 5,900 Stuart Nash -- 8,100 Kate Langshaw -- 11,575 Ryan Fronda -- 15,400 Stephen Holden -- 10,350 Dean Morris -- 11,000 Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 08, 2008, 05:37:02 PM Some chip counts from the felt.
Curly haired Dan Carter was not doing so well down to 4,500. "I'm not playing well" he told me, though he doesn't seem too dispirited. He was very happy that his "wierdest poker player on facebook" thread went down so well. It was a cracker. "Happy grizzly bear" Jerome Bradpiece is toodling along slowly but surely, his stack up to 13,800 at this stage. Albert Sapiano is known for his imaginative plays and so far they have bourne fruit as he is up to 13,000 at this point. Harpit Gurnam has had an unsuccessful first few levels and is down to 5,800. Plenty of play left though. Chin up! Whilst Praz and Sunny remain firmly rooted in the comp, Chaz is out, a victim of silent assassin Willie (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=450) Tann (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=450). Bit of a horrible one though... Holding A-A he limped in, only to find Willie (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=450) Tann (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=450) making it 1,000 behind and another player flat calling. He now popped it up to 3,400 and Willie was the sole caller. The flop fell ten high, Chaz shoved for 6,500 ish and Willie called with Jacks. Chaz looked in great shape to double...good till the turn at least when a horrible Jack fell to propel Willie into the lead. A final Jack on the river was horrible overkill and with that nasty beat 1/3 of the hit squad participants were removed from the tournament. He looked understandably distraught as he stormed out of the poker room... He may resemble the Honey Man Albert Sapiano, but don't be fooled as the chap in the foreground is actually K Sole. With several thousand in the pot and a 3c 2c 9d Jc 8d waiting patiently on the green of the baize, Sole threw in his final 3,550 and sat back with his hands behind his head. Meanwhile, neighbour E Rensink removed his sunglasses and gave his opponent a stare that could have pierced through a diamond quarry. After convulsing in his seat as he pondered what appeared to be a torturous, but perhaps overly tempting due to the pot odds, decision, Rensink eventually made the call. As he did, Sole immediately showcased his Qs Qh, leading Rensink to mucking in similarly quick time. All in with Ac Js on a 7d Ahrt 9h board, Lawrence was looked up by the energetic-as-ever (see picture of Ngo rising from his seat before making the call) Billy (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=49) Ngo (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=49) who revealed a superior 9d 7h. A Td turn and 3s river was of no use and Lord Gosney was gone.
(http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19714&g2_serialNumber=1) 'Newportlad' and former APAT winner Darren Shallis is currently struggling with 4,175. "Did it go in one hand?" I inquired. "Yeah," he confessed still smiling. "I thought my second pair was good and called on the river. He had A-K with a king on the flop." I don't know if we've been blessed by the presence of multiple Irishmen today, but one who was unearthed upon my travels was popular circuit regular Rob Taylor. Sadly, it wasn't on celebratory terms however as Rob was in the process of exiting the tournament, his pocket aces running into the pocket tens of Gary Avery (pictured) on a J-Q-T-2-8 board. As always, Rob was a good sport in defeat and made his departure with little more than a murmur, whilst a chagrined Paul King could only comment in the aftermath, "He folded kings to my aces earlier, but he couldn't fold the bullets." Here is blondite the sicilian, who has circa 16k i think at the moment, going along nicely and looking primed and ready for anything anyone can throw at him. Make it to day 2 and we might get to see that Flushy Sicilian heads up game that was mooted earlier. Sometimes, however, the job is made easier by players standing from their seat as they anticipate an all-in showdown. On this occasion, the man standing aloft and sweating like a fried chicken was DT (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/)D (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/) Mini Festival finalist Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2576) Stanley (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2576) (aka The Knife).
Virtually all in with Tc 8c, he was in desperate need of divine aid against the Ks Qs of E Rensink. "Make it quick," pleaded Stanley, perhaps greedily demanding his card hit the flop rather than a later street. Sadly for the Londoner, the dealer was far from accommodating as he dealt out a clinical 7s Kd Ad flop. The 5d on the turn was of no use, and on the 2s river, Stanley simply tapped the table and congratulated, "Nice hand". Although down to the felt, he's still in, but struggling with 1,425 and looking keen to throw in his remaining shrapnel at the next available opportunity. Rensink, meanwhile, jumps up to 17,000. Josh (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1544) Tyler (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1544) is always worth a watch. Some may see him as one of the more arrogant players on the scene, but often this character trait can be mistook for confidence. As is always the case, Josh was brimming with confidence as he bet out 3,000 into a board of 5s Qd 3d Ts, but his expression soon swayed when Ken (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=232) Wong (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=232) raised what appeared to be an additional 7,000. After correctly deducing that Ken had pocket fives, Tyler folded what he claimed was A-Q. But that wasn't the end of the hand, as down the other end of the table, one short stack was all in with 7s 4s and looking to complete his flush on the river. As Tyler basked in his glory of getting Wong's hand "spot on", the dealer dealt out a harmless non-spade on the river and Wong was awarded the pot. Greg (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=560) Howard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=560), better known as online giant Gregior and not to be confused of a certain New Zealander of the same name, is now out after falling at the hands of John Earle, the latter's Kc Qs on a queen high board enough to send Gregior and his Aspades 9d flying out of the comp. With the flop reading 9s 9d 8d, John (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1515) Eames (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1515) was left with what appeared to be a tricky decision in the face of a 3,600 bet from Javed Akhtar. After a minute's thought, and the inevitable huff and puff from the table, John sighed and said, "Sorry guys, going to need a sec." In response, Javed smiled and commented, "I won't call the clock on you because then you'll think I want a call." After a further momentary pause, John ultimately, and rather hesitantly, pushed a tall column of purple 1,000 chips across the felt to put his opponent all in. Javed's smile quickly turned to a dejected grimace, which thus triggered a "phew" and stroke of the brow from John who now realised he was in good shape. After a dwell of his own, Javed opted for the call and flipped Ac 8c, but he was chagrined to see John turn over Qd Qh. However, poker is the cruelest of games and on the Aspades turn, Javed clenched his fist in delight and said, "bring the ace out" in celebration. A queen-less river, and the pot went unjustifiably to Javed whilst John rued ever making the correct play on the flop in the first place. Some miscellaneous chip counts: Dana Immanuel -- 14,875 Stephen Boyd -- 11,475 Paul Smallwood -- 6,750 Wayne Mardle -- 18,250 Sunny Chattha -- 6,400 Stuart Nash -- 7,400 Harpit Gurnam had 3,025, but I later saw him heading for the door so it looks like he's out. GUKPT Luton: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on August 08, 2008, 08:32:05 PM Matt Eiler Gedsden is out, eliminated I believe, and hope, by this chap, Paul Kemp. It was lucky I scraped into the building with my plimsolls on as I had to race over to the table to catch the tail end of the hand. All in on the turn of an Ad 9c Qs 7s board with 5s 2s, Paul was up against Ac 6c, and although the Jc on the river was the right colour, it was the wrong suit and Matt was gone.
(http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19740&g2_serialNumber=2) When you double up, you're inevitably on a high, in confident mood and ready to start beating up the table with your newly acquired stack. Not so Ian Roberts, as even after doubling up with J-T against the A-3 of Sid (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=396) Harris (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=396) on an ensuing 8-K-T-4-8 board, he still only has 1,900 chips. Still, from small acorns... John Kabbaj, Stuart Nash, Simon Hennessey and Dave Courtney have all been spotted at the cash tables, looking rather glum and braced to blow off some post-tournament steam. I think they may be out. Apologies if you get the coffee or orange, yuk. Dana Immanuelle - up to 18,500, didn't win with kings a moment ago, but didn't lose either. Onwards and upwards! Here she is looking cheeky as she sips her (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19756&g2_serialNumber=1) (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19758&g2_serialNumber=1) Darren Shallis was propping up the rail, beer in hand of course. Sadly, he departed a while ago. After taking an early hit against A-K, he managed to build back up to 14,000 before raising it up with kings, finding two callers, and running into a flopped set of threes. Cooler than a mother-in-law's kiss. There are a number of players lingering around the 50k mark, but it would appear as though Huseyin Yilmaz is your current chip leader with 67,000. Stafford will have been relatively content with his Ad Kd, but maybe experiencing a mixture of relief and frustration as the Hit Squadder tabled the same hand, Ac Kc. Meeting everyone's secret desires, the board was a dramatic one, a 5c Jd 7c 4d flop and turn dealing both players a flush draw and sending the rest of the table into a frenzy of oohs and aahs. But, as always seems to be the case in these situations, the anti-climaxal river missed both players and the pot was duly chopped up. Nevertheless, Stafford remains low and will be looking for further opportunities to push in the upcoming rounds. I couldn't get in a good position to snap him in his usual black suit ensemble (sans yellow flower sadly) but will do so at some point. I made a rough estimate of his stack at 40,000 which is very nice thank you very much.
Stuart "The Nutter" Rutter - 7k. Not Stuart's real nickname but I like it. Stu was out in Vegas where both he AND his brother managed to simultaneously lose their passports - clumsy!. After two weeks of beatings in Guantanamo Bay however he was released back to the UK black and blue but a wiser man. He has recently started a petition to let chimpanzees play in poker competitions as he is running out of humans to stake. "There's an old saying. Sunny raised to 1,725 from early position and Stu Rutter called from the small blind. The flop fell Kh Qh 8s. Check from Stu and check from Sunny. TURN: 5s Stu reached into his stack and pulled out 2,500 which he then proceeded to bet. Sunny thought about it before picking up the requisite five 500 chips to call...which he did. RIVER: Ts Stu now bet out 4.5k which was enough to send Sunny flying into the tank for quite some time. After several minutes of contemplation, someone called the clock just to make sure Sunny wasn't in a coma but he eventually called, only to be shown 8-8 by Stu for a set which was clearly good as Sunny mucked his cards. He was left very short with 4.5k left whilst Stu is back up to over 20k and starting to look in good shape for the first time this tournament. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 08, 2008, 10:44:28 PM Jeff Buffenbarger or "Beefburger" as he is known to his friends just took a hit, losing out to a shortstack with pocket Aces against the shortstacks pocket Tens.
A ten on the flop left the burger needing to ketchup, but the chips went the wrong way, his opponent relishing the blank turn and a blank river lettuce all rush off to report the horrendous outdraw. This report brought to you by badpuncentral.com. Jeff still has 25k or so though at thsi point. Faring less well are the aforementioned Sunny Chattha who is OUT and the muticoloured Josh Tyler who has been temporarily silenced by the loss of all his chips. Better news coming for all Dana fans though (and there's lots of you fanatical Danamaniacs with big wigs, pseudo banjos and half empty bottles of bournon cheering her on...I know!) With chip daddy Huseyin Yilmaz limping under-the-gun for 600, Mateyboy on the button made it 1,800 to play and Dana reraised to 4,500. Expected to fold, Huseyin pushed all in, leading to a fold from the button and a swift call from Dana who shoved her remaining 15,000 over the felt.
Dana = Kh Ks Huseyin = 5c 5s Board = 3h Qs Qd 7s 4c Dana now has over 40,000 in chips. ;woohoo; Neil (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=302) Channing (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=302) and Josh (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1544) Tyler (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1544) have been eliminated from today's event, although Neil obviously has money invested in the eventual winner, whomever it may be. 'The Mole' Stephen Boyd is in a hole after being snipered down by fellow online pro Rob (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=382) Sherwood (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=382). "Do you know what happened to The Mole, Rob?" I probed. "Yeah," he giggled, "it was me who took him out." "What happened?" "Er... I did him over with pocket sevens against pocket eights," he replied. "He only had 4,000 at the time after bluffing off all his chips." "Come on," his neighbour jumped in, "it cost you about a third of your stack." Rob tried to laugh it off, but it was clear that his neighbour was revealing a few home truths and preventing Rob from downplaying his story. "Say it was 9/10ths of his stack now," he continued, "just to make it him look as bad as possible." After being down to just a few thousand, Irishman come Brummie (it's a rare transition) Adam (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=11) Wilkinson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=11) is now boasting a sumptuous-in-comparison stack of 30,000 after doubling up with Q-2 versus 8-6 and J-J versus T-T. Sounds easy when I put it like that. After a plucky performance, Sunny (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=423) Chattha (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=423) has left the arena courtesy of Eddie Gaines (pictured). With 9d 7d versus Ac 8h, the 9s Kh Jc flop teased Sunny before the Ahrt turn and ineffective 2d river sent him packing. There are rumours going round that Eddie was using an earpiece and new exactly where he stood in the hand - although this is yet to be confirmed. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on August 08, 2008, 11:44:32 PM I'm tempted to act biased and revolve the update around Dana, but there's no real need to really as she's been immersed in a number of big hands. Unfortunately, her last encounter didn't fall her way, pushing all in from the button after Pete Singleton had raised in middle to late position and Paul Lammas had come over the top from the cut-off. As expected, Pete leapt out of the way as Paul and Dana tabled Ahrt Ac and Qd Qc. No joy for the Banjo Bully on the 6d 2d 4h 2c Kc board gave Paul the pot and left Dana with circa 28,000 in chips after suffering a 10 to 15,000 hit.
Just as I was heading back upstairs towards the press room, I managed to catch a hand, and consequent double up, from the table nearest the door. On the receiving end was big chipper Adam Lawler (pictured) who had called Gary Avery's all in with pocket fours. Gary showed pocket queens, which subsequently stood up on a 6-K-7-J-K rainbow board. It would have required Rainman to tot up the chip count as he raked them across the felt, but it couldn't have been too much more than 10,000. Dave Smith also thought about calling before eventually passing.
Short may have been living up to his name with a mere 13k but this was all about to change as his Kings held versus his opponent's Tens, meaning he pretty much doubled up and one quick trip to the deed pole office later he is now know as Aaron Decently Stacked. (incidentally I was mistaken about the absence of Dave Smith's flower - it's there in all it's yellow glory - here's the proof...) Details are scarce but Fronda has been sent to grace the catwalks of europe once more whilst Butters is moving ever closer to the bread. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on August 09, 2008, 12:44:43 AM Dana (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1241) Immanuel (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1241) is now one of your potential chip leaders after eliminating two players in the space of three hands.
Not long after returning from the break, Wai-Ming Lam made his move from late position with Ahrt Td, only to be picked off by Dana's Kd Ks in the small blind which duly survived a Td 9s 9c 6d 6s board. Two hands later, Dana called Pete (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=346) Singleton (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=346)'s preflop raise from the cut-off, before betting 6,000 on the 8h Td 5d flop after Pete had checked. Without too much hesitation, Pete raised all in. After asking what the count was, Dana shook her head dejectedly before calling the extra 7,550 and tabling 7h 7c. Pete showed Qc Qs. The 6h turn added eight extra outs with an open ended straight draw, but it was the set that arrived, the 7d on the river delivering Dana the pot and leading to Pete exiting with the most disgruntled of looks. Dana was still collecting her chips as I left, but she must surely have around the 70k mark and odds on to finish the day in the top three. Harmless 8d 7d 6h 2d 8c board.
On a Jd 9s 8h 3c board, Albert Sapiano pushes all in to an 8,500 pot for around 15,000 in chips. Mo Muse eyes up his opponent carefully before folding. Sapiano shows Kd 3d. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on August 09, 2008, 01:21:27 AM Some quick counts before we get final confirmation of today's standings from the Raabster.
The much followed lover of lasagna Rob Garfield has 25,000. Johnathon Butters, shortly after taking care of Ryan Fronda, has milked his way to a 30k stack. The honey monster Albert Sapiano has seen his stack fluctuate almost randomly before settling upon 22,000 just a few minutes prior to the end of proceedings today. Unless he runs into any sticky situations he should return with this for day 2 tomorrow. And with those last few snippets of information we have reached the end of the day! Once Mr Raab's busy little fingers have finished typing up and sending us the chip counts, we'll disperse these amongst you, the blonde faithful but till then we can look back on a great day's poker that has seen beats, big hands and excitement aplenty. One lady has taken the tournament by storm though and we have to herald her, as she will do unspeakable things with a banjo if we fail in our duty, so I give you Dana Immanuelle, close to the chip lead and happy as larry with a wonderful day. Here she is taking a few moments out to give Snoopy a tip or two. Keep up Snoops! (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=19794&g2_serialNumber=1) Day Two should be superb. We'll see you back here for a 2 o'clock start. I can't wait, we know you can't wait, Snoopy can't wait but wait we must. For now though ;stickaforkinme; Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Luton: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on August 09, 2008, 02:45:52 AM Start of Day 2 Chip Counts:
