First of all I'd like to introduce myself as this is my first post. I've been an avid viewer of the forum for a few months since taking up the game and have found it really useful in helping my game.

I started out playing in a friends home game about a year ago and have played regularly online since then with sporadic success and a few months ago began going to DTD as I really enjoy the live game.

I've played a few tourneys there and have cashed a couple of times and hope to improve my game as I much as I can and learn from all the useful things on this forum and hope to be a regular poster in the future.

Here's where I'm looking for some advice on a hand I played last night at DTD.

I was playing the 0.50/£1 cash game after busting out the tourney in the middle of the pack and after about 2 hours had ground my £50 up to about £220 after playing some of the best poker I've played since taking up the game. I made some moves, made some good calls and my image was pretty solid.

This was the situation; a guy joined our table, really vocal, made some big re-raises preflop, coming over the top of 3bb raises with £20-£30 in his words "just to see where he is!".

He'd shown down top pair with raggy kickers in two big pots and he was pretty reckless but had good timing and after about 30 mins he'd built his stack to about £250.

I was on the button, picked up  Kh Kc, this guy was mid pos and raised to £4. One caller in the cutoff and I reraised to £15.

Both called and we saw the flop of  Qh 8h 4h.

This guy put out a bet of £40, the guy in the cut off called all in for his last £25.

This is where I want to ask advice what should I have done? I've got about £200 left behind at this point.

Not sure that shoving is the best plan here. We've got a massive hand and should look to maximise what we can get out of the aggressive oppo.

The guy in the cut off is getting 4 to 1 on his money so his range is pretty wide. If he's got any of that flop at all he's got no choice but to get his money in. He's not a major worry but if he's got us beat then we need the other guys money to make up for any loss. Shoving might make him fold and I don't think we want that.

At the moment we've got to think we're ahead and can't consider folding. If another heart comes down we still can't get away from the hand so we really need to get as much money in the pot as possible.

If you think the oppo will call a shove then do it. However, you've got position on him so use it to your advantage. Flat call the £40 and give him a chance to make a play on the turn. If you flat it he will suspect the flush draw so hope for no heart. If no heart comes on the turn he will probably bet big to protect his holding which will give you the opportunity to push with him having a good price to call.

This is a hand that you want as many chips in as possible. If you lose a big pot here then you've been cold decked and just have to put it behind you and reload.

Well, I think there is no way he will fold if I shove and he has any piece of the flop, so I shoved.

Turn and river came down  9c 9d so I think I'm good only for him to flip over   Qd Qs for a full house!!
