No, no matter what will be said in this thread after that post...there will be nothing more important said than "vital".

It simply can not be over stated hom important position is in poker. We all know the importance of it in NL HE, right?
I reckon in PL it's even more important.

It decides what hands you can play...what hands you can't play.
It gives you extra information about your oppos, it with holds info about you from your oppos.
It allows you to control the pot, to inflate the pot.
It allows you to win pots you wouldn't normally win with your hand.

and, in PL where a lot of people limp in and will call one raise from an EP raiser, it allows you to bet people off as when it comes to you the pot is of such a size that you can actually get people to fold.

The player in position has such a massive advantage vital is the only word to describe it IMO.

This is the main one for me. It means that if you've got a pair of aces you can actually narrow the field down enough so that you can make yourself a favourite.

For me being on the button becomes a massive advantage when you've got a good hand. If the guy is betting in to you then you can wait til the river to reraise. If he checks the flop you can check too to make him think you're weak. You just get so much more out of a hand when you're last to act.

When it's not good being last to act is if you have a mediocre hand. This is where it is often better to be first to act because you get the first shot at the bluff. To fire back at a bet without the goods isn't easy.
