Title: Annoying fish at the table. Opinions please
Post by: Compo on August 14, 2008, 05:36:21 AM
Following an earlier than expected finish at work today I asked an acquaintance to buy me in at my regular casino for the Wednesday comp which I expected to make about 25 minutes after the off. As i rarely play a hand in the first 2/3 levels the prospect of losing a couple of blinds was hardly noteworthy. I arrived approx 20 minutes in and took my place at a table of solid regulars and one total fish immediately on my left.  As i had come straight from the coalface, so to speak, I apologised for my appearance, which was unusually for me less than perfection personified, but was assured by all (apart from the fish) that this would be no problem as my company on the table was worth any lowering of dress standards.  It was ironic that the only player dressed worse than myself was the one to raise the objection and I immediately targetted him as the person who would donate their chips to me. Amazingly I recieved a number of premium starting hands that I was obliged to play in the first 5 minutes. For some reason the Fish turned from a calling station into a re-raising kamikaze. He firstly tried to push me off a pre-flop raise with a premium pair with total garbage. I put him all-in. Job done. I thought his leasson was learnt, but after donking off another bullseye he re-raised me yet again. Now I know when a player is at it and could only smile when he turned over the fishiest drawing hand imaginable, a paltry AK!!  My premium pair hit the set and it was bye-bye fishy.

My sarcastic "unlucky Mate" was gratefully accepted as slunk off to lick his wounds.

The table was now a thing of joy and happiness as all players breathed a sigh of relief at his departure.

Now I know it is the easiest thing to relieve this type of player of their chips, but should their unsetlling presence at the the table be allowed.? Surely some standards, such as knowing how to play, should be a pre-requisite for mixing with the elite? I for one would prefer these people to stick to the cheaper buy-ins before venturing into the heady heights of a weekday comp that is structured so only proper players, like what I am, may partake.

Opinions please.

The only way to deal with this behaviour is to get your acquintance to stand behind the aforementioned fish and shout for your cards. The fish will then slunk off to complain about his beats on an internet forum imo.
