Has anyone else had probs it has been sending out like 10,000 bytes, but is only receiving like 500 back Anyone know whats up I was with BT Broadband for about 4 years (early adopter me!), and every so often your home pod (the part of the network you connect to would go tits up badly), their website does tell you what pods are playing up. It's just a matter of waiting it out with them :( Heid xx Title: Re: BT Broadband Post by: I KNOW IT on November 11, 2005, 05:20:07 PM Im having problems with mine too, srry all those numbers are to techy for me, just know theres something not right.

I now their customer service is $hite, but the service itself is ok - only had problems once in the last year Title: Re: BT Broadband Post by: Heid on November 12, 2005, 10:22:48 AM The situation for Broadband is a weird one in this country.
Basically at the moment BT own all the phone lines and exchanges. They are the ones that companies have to lease DSL lines from, and also have to liaise with in order to get customers connected to their particular DSL network. Because BT have their own product, they can be rather "tardy" in dealing with customer orders, as it is in their own interest. LLU (local loop unbundling) will be coming into force quite soon - this will mean that companies can buy and manage their own exchanges, so there will be less wait for BT to get their act in order - although there is a question as to how companies that have never had bricks and mortar things to manage will cope with this is open to discussion. It's got to be a good thing though, to have to deal with a company as a competitor and a landlord must be a bit of a nightmare. I deal with quite a few broadband issues as part of my job, and to get things moving in some cases has been a nightmare. I'd suggest that if you are about to take on a Broadband connection, you see what their strategy is going to be regarding LLU and the size of their outfit. Contention is also an interesting concept that I would advise anyone to look at carefully as well. Contention is the number of people they allow to share your pipe - contention above 25 isn't going to be good. I was with BT for ages (very early adopter - they used my house to demonstrate how to install the product!), and all was ok for a while, until they got busier, then it started to suffer. I now share a 2meg connection over 2 pc's, and am pretty happy with it. Title: Re: BT Broadband Post by: Heid on November 12, 2005, 10:59:12 AM I use AOL - but then I would <g>.
They aren't that bad :) You also don't have to load their client software when you run the dsl either, which is good if you run multiple sites while table whoring :) Heid xx Title: Re: BT Broadband Post by: Nem on November 12, 2005, 11:45:39 AM I use AOL - but then I would <g>. Title: Re: BT Broadband Post by: Sheriff Fatman on November 12, 2005, 01:22:16 PM 24hours after the problem first materialised and I still have no dsl connection. It returned for a few hours yesterday evening but was painfully slow.
Also, as I use an ISP who rents a BT line I get the classic customer service scenario - ISP says phone BT, BT say speak to ISP! Brilliant. Guess I'm stuck with a GPRS connection for an unspecified amount of time then! At least I have a connection though! Sheriff Title: Re: BT Broadband Post by: Heid on November 12, 2005, 01:28:14 PM Sheriff, call BT and ask them to do a line check, then they have to check the line for faults - it might well be the line that is causing you problems, and if they find a fault then they have to come out and sort it.
From what you have said, the ISP doesn't have an operational problem, so it is down to BT. Start by getting the voice line checked. 24hours after the problem first materialised and I still have no dsl connection. It returned for a few hours yesterday evening but was painfully slow. Pity about the fact I get re-directed to a BT-logoed fault screen when I try to access the internet via the ADSL line! I have cable here and it's the nut's. downloads a 15meg file in under 1 min.. Are you really limited to your ISP's over there?
Title: Re: BT Broadband Post by: Heid on November 12, 2005, 10:02:18 PM Yeah we do have cable dsl. Although coverage is patchy.
I live in Zone 2 in London, and I don't have cable as it hasn't got to us yet<g>. Title: Re: BT Broadband Post by: bundle on November 12, 2005, 10:40:11 PM well when it does i would jump at the chance of getting it, I get excellent connection at all the poker sites i play.
I hope you guys get this soon, seems a real bummer to be doing so well in a tourney, only to get booted, or sevice go down. Title: Re: BT Broadband Post by: oinkment on November 12, 2005, 10:51:18 PM cost me too!
I was chip leader in a tourney - 8 players left! It cuts out - im frantically trying to reconnect - find out 5 hours later i posted and folded to 5th p[lace! GRRR - Title: Re: BT Broadband Post by: Ironside on November 12, 2005, 11:59:44 PM i will never get cable as i live in the highlands of scotland
i cannot even get digital radio but i can get 1 meg broadband it might go at speeds upto 8 meg after the upgrade but at present it touch and go if i could get 2 meg and if i pushed for 2 meg i might lose the good connection i get at the 1 meg speed Title: Re: BT Broadband Post by: Bongo on November 14, 2005, 12:31:09 AM I don't think cable in this country is much better than DSL, however the 2 main providers have just merged so maybe that will change.
Whatever happens LLU and an apparent change of pricing strategy by BT (hence all the speed upgrades) should lead to some changes in the products available. |
