Title: Acupuncture
Post by: Rookie (Rodney) on August 21, 2008, 04:53:58 PM
Anybody had it?

Thoughts please? Does it work?

I had it last night, went to the osteopath, and he recommended it, so started shoving some pins into me. Down the right side of my neck, a couple on my right shoulder and down my right arm.

It is hurting more than ever today! Surely this isnt right? I am booked in for the second lot tomorrow morning but not sure if it will do any good?

Well my wife used it to help aid pregnancy and it worked :P so not sure it helps you.

But one thing the acupuncture lady did say was when treating specific problems the symptoms may feel worse before getting better after 2-3 sessions. If that makes sense?!

He told me it would take 3 sessions before I feel full benefits but ffs this takes the piss. I have had Nurofen today and it still feels worse than ever, I have always managed to get away without using painkillers before.

I guessed that the 3 sessions talk was just so he locks up £100+ from me!

I've heard the same, which is why I never went.  If you're in enough pain to think about a visit in the first place, why would anyone sign up to feeling WORSE?  That said, let's experiment.  You continue with the appointments and let us know if it's truly better after the first few visits.

I don't believe in it for a moment. But.....I had it many years ago, & it seemed to solve the problem immediately. Not sure if it's "all in the mind" or not, but it did the trick for me.

I would caution on one thing though - ffs, make sure the needles are thoroughly sterilised before use.

I'm serious - & if you'll pardon the pun, deadly serious.....

Imgine what could happen if an infected or unclean needle was used that had previosly been used on someone with a contagious disease, or HIV Positive.....It does not bear thinking about.

I don't know if there is such a thing as "Licensed" or Medically Qualified Acupuncturists, but I'd be extremely wary, & careful. Please, I'm being serious, for once.

Yes he is fully licensed, works from home, very professional and the whole place is spotless. I would obviously not do it if I didn't think the needles were sterilised.

I would just rather not look at what is being stabbed into me!

"The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 Part VIII requires the following types of skin piercing need be registered with the Council: Acupuncture, Tattooing, Ear-piercing, Electrolysis."

In fact, they all use the same form.

Yes - they used to be reusable as long as they were sterilised, now they go straight into the sharps bin and the local authority dispose of them. I have acupuncture occasionally for my knee and it works well but after the first one it was painful, worth persevering imo.

Yes it definitely work Rooks, it is one of the few alternative therapies (the only one actually) that I have any time for.

I had it (ages ago) for several muscle and nerve problems..fit as a fiddle now, that wouldnt have been the case if I hadn't gone through with it...I even got the little Chinese guy doing it..."will no hult, yu no pain no mow"..well worth the money.

does the fact its called 'alternative therapy' just scream BS? Its kind of like we have all of these scientifically proven painkillers, but if you want, you can have some oddity stick needles into your body. Out of interest what is appealing about that?

Am I correct in preusming that they don't even stick the needles in the area that hurts. I'm under the impression they go elsewhere on your body if you knee hurts, if so...WTF!?! when I whack my knee on a coffee table my ear doesn't hurt...

In Asia it's considered to be main stream therapy...dont be fooled by the name that Western Doctors have given to it. Hell, even Western Doctors tend not to argue against the benefits of acupuncture anymore.

re-reading your post I almost think it has to be a level
