Title: DTD Deepstack £500 - Day 1: At A Glance
Post by: Djinn on August 22, 2008, 02:49:16 PM
Hey Kids!

It's been over two months since I did an update for blonde so Homer has graciously given me the opportunity to kick off this thread covering the £500 ME of the DTD deepstack event.  This 15k stacked, hour-clocked poker extravaganza has attracted a lot of interest, but currently under 100 players.  We reckon about 40 of them are stuck in traffic, so there may be a brief delay, or perhaps a curtailing of the four days set aside for the tournament.  As a playing-today Snoopy just noted, "There's more staff than players in here!"

But that surely won't last, or Rick Trigg will win his bet on the number of runners... plus, you can enter up until 5pm.  That's enough time to drive up from London.  So go on then - this is a good one.

Noted already:  Fran Creed, Pete Linton, a gent who shared our cab from Scandinavia called Fredrik, er... more in a moment.

NB: This is the At A Glance thread.  For interactivity, try here:  http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=36220.0 (http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=36220.0)

I am going to try to recall how to (a) touch type (b) read a poker board from 10 meters and (c) discover interesting facts about hitherto unknown players to further increase everyone's interest in and knowledge of the game which is growing still and continually introducing exciting new talent from all over the country and the online world.  But Homer told me, "Start with what you know.  Build up gradually."  So here is...

Focus On... Adam 'Snoopy' Goulding.

Snoopy hails from London via Solihull, is a journalist/poker player with a keen interest in professional wrestling.  (How am I doing, Homer?)  He says he is bolstered here today by, "My collection of inspirational songs," which fill his ipod with the rousing sounds of the Karate Kid theme, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, and various Russ Abbott classics.  A fan of online cash, Snoopy likes this deepstacked event, "Because it's a bit like cash.  At the beginning.  I wish it was 20k though."  He brings with him a small crystallised Snoopy (pictured below) which he intends, apparently, "To turn to face whoever is my victim."  Look out Nottingham, the beagle has landed.

Pete Linton, GBPT Winner Rupinder Bedi and Julian Thew are all sitting in a row on one table, Thewy betting in a four-way pot with Pete the only caller on a Qc 7d 8c flop, they checked the Kd turn and 5s river where Thewy had cheekily caught up with Ks Ts for the pot. But will it affect the Metagame?!?!?!?

No Dave Smith so far so, there's a lack of comedy hats.

Snoopy has picked up some early chips re-raising preflop from 225 to 700 and receiving one caller. Both players checked the Qd Qh Jd flop before his opponent checked again on the Kd turn and Snoops bet 600, which didn't get the call he probably wanted.

Chris Bruce, "The way it's going I'm going to be out in the first level. I've raised into Aces, Kings, one hand where the caller flopped a set of eights, and another where he made the nut flush. Perhaps I should sit out for a level?"

He's currently on 12k.

first post wow

never realised that Rupinder B was such a good player/high winner. Played with him a few times, while he was good though he was just a CASUAL LOCAL etc.

And it looks like he'll be put to the test today, making the filling of a Thew-Linton sandwich, as he is:

Great to see the phenomenally-performing Thew fuelling his potentially phenomenal performance (try saying that before breakfast) with lunch-beer!

Here's Simon Nowab ordering, "A bottle of tequila - only joking!" off the lovely waitress lady.*  He's sat next to Greek Jack who has yet to wake up.

Sharing their table:  Snoopy and Peter Charalambous.  There ensued several jokes from Pete about getting Nowab's 'good side."

*Yet to determine if he was actually joking

Wick Twigg has suffered an early setback, paying off a few thousand on a 5h 7h Qc Qd 3c board with Js Jh only to be shown Ad Qh.

Meanwhile, LeKnave is doing a lot better, he raised from the cut-off to 150 with John 'Reggie' Perrin calling from the big blind. The latter check/called a 200 bet on the 5d Js 9d flop before check/raising from 450 to 1,000 on the 5c turn and continuing with a 2,500 bet on the 6c river. Dave, eventually made the call, Perrin mucked and Dave took the pot with Jh Ts.

A hand from the early levels (no one has been eliminated yet - a first for a whole level at DTD according to Simon Trumper):

Raised by LeKnave (pictured top), unsurprisingly, he received four callers, unsurprisingly.
Flop: Qc Qh Ts  It checks round to Thomas Townley who bets out 150.  Jeanne David raises to 350.  Townley calls, everyone else loses interest.
Turn:  7h  Thomas bets out 300.  Instaflatcall.
River:  Jc  Thomas bets out 300.  Instapass.

If we were in any doubt as to the identity of the winner of that hand, he's helpfully had his name tattooed on his inner forearm:

And the first casualty in John Shaw, getting it in with K-K on a 2-2-J-6-Q board with most of the money in on the river against the jacks of his opponent. LeKnave has just been moved to this table sitting between Red Dog, Woodsey and Fran.

Big change of fortunes for Wick at the expense of Chili. He raised to 200 and Maria re-raised to 600 with Richard Redmond and Rick calling. The flop came out A-J-x, Maria betting out with Rick raising and Richard folding. Maria made the call before calling a bet of 5,200 on the Queen turn. Both checked the 2 river, only for Rick to show a rivered set of deuces which had triumphed over Maria's A-K.

Waved over to table McCloskey (it has to be called that as he was the one who alerted me to this monster hand), I saw Des Jonas had moved all-in on a flop of 7s Qs Tc.  Apparently it had all gone nuts preflop, with a threeway pot of over 10k building between Des, Matt Tyler and Alan Vinnicombe.  Four raises had gone in preflop, and there were clearly some big hands out there.  The Queen-high two spade board was clearly giving Alan a decision when I arrived, and Des' 9,475 remaining chips were already across the line, and Des was already well into the speech play, which went back and forth pretty much as follows:

Vinnicombe:  "I do a deal with you:  if you've got an overpair, I pass."
Jonas:  "I haven't got an overpair."
"I think you'd have done that bet whether you had a good hand or a bad hand."  (Des had shoved first to act, and Matt had passed already).
"You're going to pass anyway.  Give me the chips, dealer."

There then followed some surreal banter about going on holiday, or something.  I lost track for a few seconds.  Then:

Vinnicombe:  "Will you show me if I pass?"
Jonas:  "I'll show you f*** all!"
"I've only got top pair."   Suddenly something snaps and he shoves his stack over the line (outchipping his opponent, though).  He indeed shows Ac Qc
Des shows the Ahrt Ad
(Matt passed Kings...)

Turn and river:  Ts Kh so an early double through for Des Jonas of the Bewildering Chat.

Mad Turk has some equally mad skillz but they're not serving him so far today. He fired every step of a 6c 6s 8h Qc 4h board culminating with 3,000 on the river but was snap-called by Woodsey's Jh Jd. He's down to just a few thousand.

Here's El Blondie wearing an uncharacteristic salmony hoody.  I recognise this particular hoody, incidentally, as being on sale in the WSOP gift shop this summer.  There are probably hundreds of poker players with this exact same one floating around - or in one of their other items of clothing which seemed to feature mainly Gothic-style writing, the word 'PLAYER', fire, skulls, dice and rhinestones.  I actually own one of these, but only because it didn't fit its original buyer :)

Early doors he got away from a flopped set of Jacks (flopped by Daniel Ball) on the turn, but only after being raised to 1k on a Jh 7h 5d flop and paying for the seemingly-unhelpful 6s on the turn.  He's still in.

More non-good Chris Bruce news, he's just had A-A cracked by J-8. NOt looking like his day.

But just look how happy he was before it all went wrong... he even won a pot earlier with Jh Jd vs. the 9d 9h of Robert Spencer.  He'd called button Spencer's raise to 1,500 on a flop of Qd 4d Qc and they checked down the further Ac and Qh without further stabs at the pot.  He was happy then, too, announcing, "I won a pot of more than a hundred!" and even dancing just a tiny bit.  There's still time...

Back to Simon Nowab, who's down to 8,350.  "You missed him going on tilt and losing his chips," said Peter Charalambous.  "You're off tilt now," he added in Simon's direction.  "I was never on tilt," replied a blithe Nowab, while simultaneously firing up a laptop and limp-calling a raise under the gun.

Of course you weren't.

Snoop Scoop:  (We're on a BREAK)... he's down to 11,100 but a chipper kipper due to having lost very little in some potentially very dangerous situations.  He's been dealt lots of big hands (Aces three times, Queens twice, Jacks once) but failed to get off the starting blocks.  A typical example hand involved his raising with Qh Qd and getting three callers.  On a flop of 8h 9s 2h he bet out 800, was flat called, and then raised by Greek Jack to 2,500.  Apparently he was planning on check-folding unless he hit the turn anyway as the flat caller upset him, but it was now an easier decision.  His suspicions were proved correct when the flat caller then re-raised....

Greek Jack passed 8s 2s and the other guy showed an 8.... ("Set," surmised Snoopy.)

Well you might ask.  Assisted by two resigned-looking dealers, he was edging through the card room, measuring a precise distance between the rail and the tables' edges so as to provide the optimum in room and comfort around each and every one.  Don't say the management aren't mad as a box of frogs don't go the extra mile.

Alan Stearn is OUT - a limped pot turns into a monster...

Threeway with minimal monies to a Kd 2c Jd flop.  Richard Wilcox bet out a small amount, raised by Stearn to 1,600, and then re-raised by button Kyriacos 'Greek Jack' Dionysiou to 5,900.  A fairly intense pause on Wilcox, who eventually passed, but Stearn instacalled, leaving himself about that much back, which went in at the speed of light on the Js turn.  The only thing matching the speed of that was Greek Jack's call holding Jc Ks for the nuts.  Alan Stearn then threw his hand straight into the muck, standing up and staring in a manner such as only one who had chips a minute ago and suddenly is drawing dead does.

Greek Jack collects a tasty stack, pictured here pointing out that his opponent had mucked his hand, in case anyone missed it.

Chris Bruce just told us about this hand. There's a raise to 300 and several callers see a 9-8-6 two diamond flop. One player leads out for 1,200, the next (original raiser) moves all-in for 5,000 and then a third player moves all-in for 20,000 with the first bettor then calling all-in for his 10k.

FB: 8-8

OR: A-A

Third Player: 9-9

The turn is a 5 and the river is 7, making a straight and all three players have to suffer the ignominy of a chop.

Another near-all-in situation -

On a board of 7s Js 2c 2h Mohammed Shoahebe had bet 2,600 into a 5,500 pot.  Action over to Adam Wilkinson, who moved all-in for around 10,500.  Action back to Shoahebe, and there it remained, for a very long time.  After some traditional back-n-forth chat to pass the minutes which were ticking away, including the gem, "I've booked a hotel for tonight - make a good fold and throw it away," from Adam, it looked like Shoahebe had stalled.

"Show your Aces, Adam," piped up tablemate Billy Ngo (pictured top).
"I'll show you one..." replied Wilkinson.
"Clock!" replied Ngo.

Eventually Mohammed passed, and Pete Linton passed judgement.  "That was a waste of time."

Tom Rutter makes veeerrrry innnnteresting call on river...

On a board of 7h Qd Qc 9c 3d Richard Hawes bet out 4,400 into a pot which must have been around that size.  Having entirely missed the action on all preceding streets, I have no idea who was the aggressor earlier, but it was definitely quite a call Tom Rutter made with Ad Kd.  Hawes mucked straight away and Rutter allowed himself a very slight table tap.  "He could have been bluffing with the best hand," warns tablemate Mickey Wernick, before relenting and adding, "Good poker."

Rob Spencer is OUT. Dan Sampson, the conqueror with the mighty 2d 3d. He limp-called from early position, as did Chris (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=65) Bruce (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=65). Sampson called a bet on the Ad 8s 4d flop before setting Spencer in on the 8d, the latter feeling he was committed with Ac Tc, but couldn't catch an ace or eight to improve his hand.

Przemek Rusin knocks out Pete Linton, as follows:

Young Mr. Linton is pictured here with many more chips than he had in his final moments - down to just over 3k (all in small denom chips after what I must assume is an efficient payoff of someone else just prior to this hand) he moved all in on his big blind after three limpers had put in 200.  Although I was definitely expecting this, he actually had something sort of like a hand, with Ad Ts which ended up being slightly in front of his caller (the UTG limper Rusin) who held Qs Kc.

Flop:  6d 7s 5h
Turn: 2d
River: Kd

Linton made a face like he'd just bitten into a stray cardamom pod in an otherwise nice curry and headed off towards the cash games.

Pete Charalambous raises to 500 from early position, Greek Jack makes it 2,500 and like a bloodhound I'm there, sniffing out the scent. The big blind then comes in for a third raise making it 10,200 and Pete quickly gets out of the way. Greek Jack though, like a bad smell in a lift, takes a little longer to disappear. He thinks for a good couple of minutes before folding, claiming he had kings, with the big blind saying he had aces and Pete said he had nines, though I'm not sure everyone is telling the truth...

'UpTheMariners' Daniel Rudd makes a concerted push on a 8c Ah 6c Jd board for around 8k or 9k into a similarly sized pot, his opponent folds.

Red Dog told me of a hand where everyone on the table limped to the big blind who raised to 1,200 getting one caller. The flop came K-7-5 and the limp/caller bet out 3k onto the Ks 7d 5s flop with the OR then check/raising all-in for just 4k more with Qs 9s. The limper called with K-8 and his hand managed to hold on for a 15k pot.

El Blondie knocks out Daniel Lee, whose short stack found its way in with 5h 5s and out again into Colclough's stack as his Qd Qc held up.  DC now has 21,800, after raising on the button the very next hand (a minraise) and receiving both blinds as callers.  A weird small pot played out in which Daniel (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1371) Rudd (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1371)'s 4d 4h eventually took it down on a 5h 8s 3d 6s Qh board, Dave mysteriously showing a 3d and mucking after loudly proclaiming how preflop there was, "Just no respect!  I just showed Queens!"

We tried to get him to wear a t-shirt that said "I sold my soul to Flushy and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" but for some reason he wasn't up for it.  :dontask:

He has about 18k I think. Pete Charalambous is talking non-stop at the moment, doing impressions of the Cryptologic software and commentating on every hand, which is tilting Rick Trigg for sure.

Speaking of being tilted, Paul Gourlay is feeling that after calling down bets on the flop and turn of a 8s 2d Js 6h Aspades with K-J only to find his opponent had Ahrt 8d and had got there on the river. The Leeds-based Geordie was not amused.

Double up for Neil Blatchly - After Thomas Besnier made it 600 to go under the gun, Neil called on the button, and they saw a flop of 3h 7c 9s.  Check to Neil who bet 1k, and was promptly ch-raised to 3k.  He called.  Turn:  Tc.  Now Thomas bet out 4k, and found Neil raising to 10,500.  Neil left himself a mighty 100 behind - pictured here at the moment of truth, as somehow Thomas simply flat calls:

"If you check the river, I'll check behind," offers Neil generously as his threatening pile of four 25 chips threatens his opponent...  And that is what happens, Neil showing 9d Td for a turned two pair outdrawing Thomas' Jh Jd.

Little pot for the Snoopster. There's a single limper and Snoopy makes it 800 next to him with everyone else folding, the flop comes 9d 6d 8h and both players check. The turn is the Ts and both players check again, the river is the 2c and it's checked to Snoopy a third time and he bets 500 and gets a call when his opponent shows Ac 8c. Snoops scoops with Qd Qh.

Dave Colclough (about his table), "There's nothing to see here, it's like watching paint dry. I'm saving myself and am on sleep time until they bring in the running antes. Go and watch Julian's table!"

Snoopy calls a raise from Greek Jack and both checked a Ks Ts 4d flop. Snoops fires a 1k bet on the 2c turn and Greek Jack quickly calls. The river is the draw-making and all around action inducing Ac and Snoopy checks and Jack now bets 3k. Snoopy thinks for about 20 seconds before deciding to go where beagles dare and calls. Greek Jack mucks and Snoops shows Kc 8s for the almost 10k pot.

All we need now is Richard Burton, Clint and a castle full of Nazis now.

Ben Pearce has 11,750 (in the blue hat next to Rick).  Paul Lammas just lost a few thousand after getting check-raised by Dave Colclough on a 9s 4c 5d flop, and was resolutely hiding his stack behind his hands when I came to the table.  Probably about the same as Pearce, though.  Check out their collective radiant countenances, expressing the passion and fascination they all clearly have for this most exciting of games.

"Chris, I'm on tilt," says Red Dog with a slight smile hiding a little bit of frustration. I see a flop of A-Q-J holding K-Q, and for some reason I think I have a straight. So everyone checks to me, so I check. The turn is another ace and now someone bets, and I think he might have trip aces but he probably doesn't have the house, so the straight I have, which I actually don't have, is good. Of course, he does have the house and I don't have the straight!!

Red now dropped to a few thousand. wins

Dave 'LeKnave' Jones has won a 3-bet pot against Paul Lammas betting the river of a 8c 2c Kd Kh Tc with Qh Qd and getting called by Lammas' Jc Jd

Big pot between Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1689) Berridge (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1689) and Dan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=996) Samson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=996)

Berridge raises preflop with jacks and gets several callers. On the 7c Js 8h flop, he bets 2,500 and Dan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=996) Samson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=996) is the only caller. On the turn 9s Berridge again bets but this time Samson raises and Berridge just calls. The river pairs, coming the 9h and Berridge now checks, Samson bets 14,000 and Berridge moves all-in. Samson says, "Well I have a ten..." but he then folds, losing a decent chunk of his stack and propelling Berridge up to 78k.

  • understated black suit
  • artfully spiky hair
  • tin of snus
  • quietly accumulating chips
  • sent by Expekt

Yes, we have a Scandie.  Fredrik Mikaelsson, the gent we shared the taxi with from our hotel today, is still in and calmly sitting on about 27k.  Expekt a deep run from the quietly spoken player, who is currently hoping that it will be reduced to a three-day event as he's booked to fly home on the Monday.  Such practicality.  Admirable.

Giant tangled pot eliminates both Dan Samson and Nicholas Marshall and frustrates Richard Berridge all at the same time!

It was a flop of 8s 5c 7s which caused the conflict... at first it was all 'check-check-I-bet-900-I-raise-to-3,300' but then it got totally out of hand as Marshall got his 10,750 all in, called by Billy Ngo - Samson took the plunge for nearer 15k and with it just being a formality that Billy Ngo was going to call the rest, it was over to Berridge who tortured himself until he had the clock called on him.  "I wish I'd have checked now," he lamented as he looked at the lake of chips that was heading somewhere in two cards' time... he decided that it wasn't worth risking his dominant chip position on this hand, and muttering something about straights and flushes, he got out of the way.

Dan showed:  9h Tc for the up'n'down draw
Billy showed:  5c 5d for a set
Nicholas showed:  Ks Js for the flush draw.

Turn and river.... 2c Td which brought rejoicing for Billy Ngo and the rail for the other two, and an irritated Richard saying that his set of Eights would have won(!).

A bit of Triggonometry for you now as Rick is angling for a spot having seen his stack size disappear off on a tangent. He's raised aces after a load of limpers, still managing to get a few callers and led out on a J-J-3 board, one player flat-called and Rick decided all he could do would be to check/fold after this, though I personally think it's a sin to fold there too quickly cos his opponent could easily have a smaller pair. He has 12k left though, but it's less than those adjacent and opposite to him, though all he needs is to find the right angle to make a move and regain those chips.

Dave Colclough has added another 6k or after betting 3k on the river of a Jd 4c 2c Kd 3c board, getting called, and proudly showing his Kc Qc for a rivered flush.

Scott Keates continues to impress, he raises from the button and gets 3 callers including Woodsey, who apologises in advance, points to the other two players saying, "If I win it's their fault" implying he's calling because of odds and nothing else.

8d 9c 2h

Checked around.

Kh

It's checked around to Keates who checks to the button, who bets 5k. Keates is the only caller.

7d

Check check, the American's A-K wins.

Tom Rutter bets 6k on a Qs 4c 4s 9h board and receives two callers. Clearly a little worried, he checks the 7h river but his opponents can't beat his Kc Ks and he scoops a 20k pot.

Chip counts from Table Snoopy:

11   1   Richard Wilcox -- 15,150
11   2   Paul Murphy -- 19,075
11   3   Adam Goulding -- 18,000
11   4   Peter Charalamobus -- 6,450
11   5   Nichiei Hicks -- 18,000
11   6   Tony Salmon -- 12,000
11   7   Kyriacos Dionysiou -- 38,300
11   8   Darren Chadwick -- 14,800
11   9   Ben Pearce -- 13,250

From the stack sizes, I cleverly deduce that Greek Jack is the denter of the Snoopy Stack, along with several others...

Joe Stevenson is out due to an old anal mauling, he moved in with Ac 4c on the Ad 4s Qd flop and was snap-called by Aspades Th which picked up extra outs on the Kc turn and made the nuts on the Js river to scoop the pot.

John 'Reggie' Perrin has also now left Thunderdome, he was all-in with aces against the flush draw of Jd Td, an Ace on the turn delaying the sickening thud that must have hit his stomach when a diamond appeared on the river.

Thewy has gone. No sign of Dewi or Louie either.

Latest from the end of Level Seven:  Przemek Rusin does some calling and passing; Tyler doubles up; Billy's chips not ngoing anywhere...

Carl Williams added a few chips to his stack raising to 3,400 under the gun and receiving one caller in Rusin.
Flop:  9s 5d 4h  Rusin checked, Williams bet 5k, and after a dwell got a call.
Turn:  Qd  Again, check to Williams, who again bet 5k, this time taking it down.

The next hand, Billy Ngo raises preflop to 1,450, called by neighbour Rick Trigg and button Przemek Rusin.
Flop:  7h 2d 2h  Billy bet out 2,400, which was quickly raised to 5,500 by Rick... Without dwell Rusin AND Ngo passed, the latter showing 9d 9h which went into the muck instantly.  Rick Trigg had the eyes of the table fixed on him as he tantalised them with a lift of the corner of a card, before mucking them to general disappointment.  Anyone else think that was a pretty tight fold?

But Billy is clearly in a good mood, with enough chips to see him comfortably into day two...

LeKnave raises to 1,700 from the cut-off. Steve Jelinek re-raises to 4,700 from the button. Paul Lammas thinks for a long while before moving all-in for about 7k. LeKnave immediately sets Jelinek in for his remaining 11k, but the latter quickly passes, with just the slightest hint of a man who knew he got caught.

Lammas: Aspades Js
LeKnave: Ac Kd

Qs Ahrt Ks 2c 7c

I guess Paul would've taken that flop at least, but he's out now while Dave 'LeKnave' Jones is up to the virtual nosebleed heights of 50k.

Paul Gourlay gets out of jail, and a very large double up in the process...

Paul raised under the gun (he does seem to do this more often than one might expect) to 2,100, called in three spots - Richard Berridge, the button and the big blind Scott Yeates.
Flop:  Ks 8d Td  Check from Yeates, and out bets Paul 8,500.  He's called quickly by Berridge, and the others pass.
Turn:  3c  Paul instantly makes that hand-wavy gesture which signifies all-in, and after a moment's hesitation, Berridge makes the call - and it's not for peanuts - 27,525.
Paul Gourlay:  Kd Jd
Richard Berridge:  Ad Kh

River..... 4d, and barely a wince later, from Richard at least, Paul is up to over 75k and looking ever so slightly sheepish.

Richard Wilcox has been knocked out by Greek Jack with A-K not able to crack kings. Matt Tyler is also out whilst it looks as though LeKnave is up to about 70k.

Also I'm sure we just heard Fran say she managed to stay in the comp getting all-in with 4-4 vs Q-Q only for the board to come A-2-2-2-2...

LittleMissC has doubled up with queens against Des (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=129) Jonas (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=129)' sevens. Shortly afterwards Des (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=129) Jonas (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=129) pushed in with Jh 9s and was called by the small blind's 9c 9h, the flop almost sealed it coming 6h 4h 9d but a hint of hope came on the Th turn, only to be extinguished by the 2d river.

Chris (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=65) Bruce (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=65) has doubled up to around 17k after pushing preflop with Kc Ks and finding Scott Keates calling with 5c 5s, no five on board helps the current in-form man at DT (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/)D (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/).

Dave (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=95) Colclough (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=95) is out after a nasty case of set over set where he flopped a set of fours and flat-called a bet only for Neil Blatchly to turn a higher set and knock El Blondie out.

Finally it looks like Stuart (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2557) Hopkin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2557) just went as well, as he's headed out of the front door as I type this.

Rick Trigg (pictured below) has been accumulating chips nicely with showdowns few and far between.  He has a couple of players on his table who are, he says, partial to a call now and then, and has managed to manoeuvre around their actually outdrawing him a number of times.  Recently there were four limpers and he raised preflop from the small blind - enough to make the pot over 12k on the 3h Ts 8c flop.  He led straight out for 6k, and while Carla Goddard really looked like she was considering calling, didn't - and nor did Przemek Rusin.

Rusin did, however, call down Erdinc Inan all the way on a board of Aspades 8d 2s 6h 2h and mucked when he saw his opponent's Ac Kc, which he'd checked on the flop and proceeded to extract 10k with on the way to the end of the hand.

Kinboshi is playing in the cash games here and was inquiring about how the blondes were doing.

I mentioned that Fran, Snoops, Trigg and LeKnave were also still in.

"LeKnave is still in, how many has he got?" said Kin.

"About 70k last time I checked," I replied.

"I bet he still looks miserable as hell," was the riposte.

A brief wander over, and yep, he did. :D

Beagle doubles!

Having stayed firmly on around 18k for a good long level or two, it's all happening for Adam 'Snoopy' Goulding in the final half hour of today's play...  He was in the big blind, and so saw a flop with limper Greek Jack and small blind Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1523) Murphy (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1523).  That flop was: Ks 5s 9h.  Snoops bet out 2k, and Greek Jack made it 5k.  Back to Snoops and he self-counted-down before electing to raise to 15k (leaving himself just 7k behind).  In an unexpected move, Greek Jack just called.
Turn: Kd  Immediately, the rest of Snoopy's meagre stack had crossed the line and a very long dwell ensued for someone who'd just called such a big bet in comparison to their stack size on the flop... At long last, he made the call, but admitted that he'd misread his hand, and had to table Qd Jc.  I am sure Snoopy was fairly relieved, as he showed Qs 9s for 2pr and a flush draw... The river was a harmless 2d and he's back over average.

Przemek Rusin, (he sounds like a Russiam Premier, it's an awesome name) has knocked out Jason Wheatley, Ts Td vs 9s 9d, the Tc being the first card out pretty much making it game over.

Pete Charalambous is also out, he was called by Nick Hicks and and Darren Chadwick who checked the 9d Kh 2c 4s Kd down where Darren's Js Jc was good as Nick could only show Aspades Qs and Pete's Ac 9h was second best.

Another table breaks, bringing the total to four...and as it does so, a big pot develops.  Cards are handed out so that people can move to their new seats for the final ten minutes of play, but there's still a hand going on.

So, as it stands, as most of the players move to their new locations:  there is around 13k in the pot.  Three players have reached the turn, with the board standing like so:
Qh 4s Ahrt 5d.  At this point, Carla Goddard has checked, Erdinc Inan has checked, and Adam Wilkinson has moved all in.  He covers Carla, who has only 8,400 left, and while it looks rather like Erdinc has lost interest in the pot, she is seriously considering calling all in.  Adam starts to chirpily talk and gets a bit of a "Shush" from Carla who struggles with the decision for her tournament life, before ignoring his advice to "Wait for a better spot to double up," and going for it with Jh 4h.  Adam is ahead with Ad 3d and remains so as the Tc river dodges her outs and sends her to the rail in 36th.

On the last hand of the night we lose Ben Pearce, who moved all-in over the top of Mick (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=667) McCloskey (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=667)'s raise for about 15k, Mick making the call with Ahrt Kh but found himself dominated by the Kc Ks that Pearce was holding. An Ac on the turn though, and Mick will go into tomorrow as one of the chip leaders.

Play has now finished for the day and we'll be back again tomorrow to do it all over again.

Just as dramatically, Billy Ngo told me that after a day of playing cagey, small pots (apart from that set of Fives earlier) he'd just lost a 70k pot to Erdinc Inan which would have propelled him to the top of the chip leaders had he won it.  He'd raised with Kc 9c and Inan had seen a flop with him.  It was Qc Tc x and that immediately looked like a pretty favourable prospect.  When it checked to Billy he bet 2,500, and was then ch-raised to 6k.  Billy went all in, and was called (30k of it, anyway) by Q-T... it held and a late-night pot went over to his opponent.  Down to below average it's a case of Sigh, start again tomorrow.
