Title: 100 freezeout at walsall
Post by: RED-DOG on May 16, 2005, 03:28:54 AM
100 entry + 10 reg

Now I like the Grosvenor at walsall

the staff are great, helpfull and professional

good location, easy to get to, just off J10 m6

nice big cardroom

plenty of good comps, somthing for everyone

But while I was playing tonight I looked up at the big computer screen to see the prize structure

10th, 100

so you make the final to lose 10

In fact you had to make 6th to win 100

It dosnt make much difference if you go out 10th 9th 8th 7th or 6th

In my opinnion it should matter where you go out, 100 between 10th and 6th seems pointless

Ive been banging on about this for ages, Id rather see just 5 prizes than this

by the way, about 2 hours into the comp I noticed 10 had been taken off the top to make 10th prize 110

Your doin a great job at J10 guys, but have a look at the prize structure  ::)

red dog i know grosvenor walsall take all comments off u players seriously, the prize stucture has not long been changed 1st prize was reduced from 45% to 40%, glad u enjoyed it there, i suspect we will see u this sat for the 300 freeze out

I am sure that Grosvenor, in this case Dani at Walsall, would listen to your suggestions Tom. Write them a letter giving some proposed sructures, I am sure they would listen. Think about it, it's your money, not theirs, & they just wanna please their punters.

OK, now off you go, try doing something useful, just this once........

And nice to see your positive comments about Walsall. A little praise goes a long way, and Dani & his teram ARE trying to get it right for us.

Thanks Dani, but I think most of us feel that's still too top heavy.

27%, 22%, 15% for the top three, with the rest of the money spread better down to 10th. This, from what I see & hear, is what the majority of punters want.

This is evidenced by the amount of deals done - the deals prove that the structure needs to be flatter.

Course, personally, I would give the Bubble Boy 5k every time. I'd make a fortune.

ill take ur points on board tikay, and bring them up at our next cardroom meeting, maybe we need a different structure for bigger comps, cus if u flattened it to much in small rebuy comps the top prize might not look very inviting (in some punters eyes)

Wow, takes a while for the Poker Mag to reach Walsall, eh?

Well as it was so long ago, let's remind readers what I wrote about Walsall in Poker Europa, after the Midlands Medley Festival.

"......so, 7 events, 792 runners, and a total prize pool for the week of 480,000 - massive! And all credit to Cardroom Manager Danny for getting everything just about spot on. The clocks were adjudged by all to be just about perfect, and there was the tradfitional Walsall Free Buffet every night. Grerat stuff, Grosvenor...."

But, since then, I have to say, Blackpool have raised the bar even higher, & promoted a stunningly successful Festival the week before last. Clocks were the same as yours, timekeeping was, I have to say, immaculate, food not as good as Walsall, atmo similar. So it's nip & tuck, & Luton could not be faulted during their 2 Festivals this year. It's a terrific thing to see the Grosvenor Casinos trying so hard. Let's not take it for granted boys, we've moaned long enough, now lets give them some credit for getting it right.

Well you cant please everybody Danny.

But you could ask a cross section of players - from top guys like Dave Colclough, down through the middle ranks, and the regular guys in the little comps. I think the concensus would be flatter structures.

Or you could run a poll in the blonde forum, we have a voting mechnism, but no good asking me how it works. But the question needs to be simple - "Should the Prize Structures at Walsall (or anywhere else for that matter) be flatter?" - then you can work from there.

I can never be convinced by anyone that I am wrong in my view that sitting down & discussing these things with folks from both sides of the table has to be to everyone's benefit.

"we have another Festival later this year to come good again"......

Don't be getting a complex here Dani. You ain't doing much wrong. Most folks would only have two negative comments on Walsall - the prize structure ( & Blackpool have the same problem on this issue), & timekeeping. Late starts have always been the chief moan at Walsall, but they were very much better in the Midlands Medley.

Timekeeping? Well Blackpool, remarkably, upset a few folks by startng every comp bang on time, but thats deffo the way to go, & 99% of the players agree. And who did they upset? The latecomers! So, the advice for the next Walsall Festival is don't worry about offending a few folks - close registration on time, start on time, and you'll have the punters eating out of your hands. And if anyone enters twice by mistake, & thus causes a delay, well just acknowledge that old people sometimes do silly thngs......

I did write down what I thought was a good structure, and I have discussed it with them several times

its not really the amount of money that bothers me its the lack of incentive to make another rung up the paymet ladder

players go all in with silly draws cos if they dont make 3rd they might as well go out 10th

that dosnt look very clear, hope you know what I mean

but let me just say again, for the record, I think Walsall has one of the best run cardrooms in the country, thats why I feel I can have my say without anyone getting the hump

But dont get me started on the food.......

We did actually try to flatten the prize structure in Blackpool. Maybe 20 prizes was a little much. Got more abuse from people about 1st not being enough. Ah well u can't please them all.

Who knows what manic fun we will do in November. Gotta think of yet another new comp to keep the insanity going.
