Title: Ryder Cup
Post by: totalise on August 27, 2008, 02:37:28 PM
it looks like on betfair the favs to get wild-card picks are Darren Clarke and Paul Casey, with Poulter close up,  but I cant imagine a ryder cup without Monty in it !!!!

I'd like to see Monty and Clarke as the wild cards, sentimental viewing FTW!

Assuming it will be between Casey, Monty, Clarke and Poulter, who would you choose?

But Poulter has pulled out of the last event and so everyone is claiming he has been given the secret nod by faldo as one of his picks.

Would love to see Monty & Clarke in the team, however Faldo isnt big on sentiment and I dont think theres much love lost between him and Monty.

also i took a look at the US team and what a bag of spanners that looks. Europe should cane them, which obv means the yankees will win at a canter. 1.92 for the Euros to win seems a ridiculously huge price though.

I don't think Monty has a hope in hell of getting picked to be fair, so of the other 3 i'd defo have Casey and i can't decide over Clarke and Poulter

I'm a big Faldo fan , so i'm praying he's gonna get the job done , would have been easier if he got a home match but we should still spank the yanks

On a form basis it has to be Poulter and Clarke, surely. I would be happy for Monty to get it, though I can't see it. He has a great record, but I don't he'd keep that by the end of September if he plays.

When is the announcement?

Clarke and McGinley ftw, but Poulter is obv. nailed-on.

I dont think theres much love lost between him and Monty.

Only one player can overtake Faldo as the highest scoring Ryder Cup player ever - guess who...

Pick 1) Ross Fisher - Playing well on European Tour and good opportunity to blood some young players given not a great US team

Pick 2) Carl Pettersson - Regular on the PGA Tour which will count for something given tournament being played on US Soil, coming off some good results including a recent win in Carolina

Poulter is Justin Rose's best mate quite apart from being the highest ranked of the non-qualified players and the two of them will undoubtedly feature as a pair unless I'm very much mistaken. Hi Kev  ;tracet;

Casey played extremely well in the last RC and was a college star in the US so is familiar with the courses. oh and he also hits it about fifty yards further than most of the others and is well known for "hating the Yanks" ;)

Clarke was unliucky to miss out imho as he has been a stalwart along with McGinley, and Monty too for that matter even if he is a sour old sod but Faldo has a great deal of strength in depth unlike Mr. Zinger.

I for one cannot fault the logic behind Faldo's picks although Monty and Kev might :)

and he has gone with world rankings hasn't he? can't really fault that. It looks a very strong side. Expecting to win by 5 points.

Poulter is Faldos best mate it transpires ... as you would find quite obvious if you listened to the live announcement of the team.

I will obv be rooting for GB & Europe.

FK MY LIFE !

The only possible case against Poulter is that he didn't show up to this last event to try and get in automatically...... that and the fact he's a gooner I suppose!

Because Faldo had already told him he was in.

But I don't see anything wrong with that either. A lot of pundits and ex players are saying he shouldn't have been picked because he didn't 'want' to make the effort to get in automatically. He's the best player outside of those who qualified so has to be the right choice.
