Standard fold on river here? The whole limp 3bet pre confused me abit.. was prepared to call a bet on the river until the A came and he shoved ..thinking about it now he could of pushed me off it..   I think I made a mistake not betting turn, be interested to know what others think on this and the hand in general

id check the flop and see what he does on the turn. i doubt he rivered you.

That check call on the flop did look pretty weak.

Possible he has a set I guess but I think I pounce on the weakness and bet the turn.

Fold on the river looks unavoidable....

So is the aim just to get to showdown as cheap as poss in this situation? I bet the flop as given the action pre it looked like he didn't believe my initial raise and I thought it unlikely he had a K and being BvB he might do something crazy.. What would your line be here please Alex (or anyone else)?   I guess you saying by betting flop only hands that are beating mine will continue?

in a 3b pot pre you cannot really be value betting postflop in this situation. Pending reads, i would deffo check flop, then possibly bet turn for value from 1010/J10s/protect against overcard+ gutter combos drawing for free. You are not building the pot for value, coz how do you feel when he raises that flop when you bet? Keep the pot smaller with a marginal hand in position, let him bluff and control the action.

We could really do with some information in these situations, it's important to know if he's playing many hands or not. Nevertheless, I don't believe there's much value in betting this flop. I think it's more profitable betting (or calling) a later street. The way it has played out, I fold the river. I can't see many hands you're beating that would check-call a flop then push on the end. I reckon he's slow playing k-k.

The player had been quite pretty tight but not been at the table that long, I think a set was definately possible, i was always folding the river but obv made some mistakes getting there... thks

It's very odd for him not to cb after 3betting. If he's tight, his range would be A-A, A-K, A-Q, K-K, Q-Q, J-J, T-T, maybe 9-9. If he's trapping, betting the flop is inflating the pot for him and if he isn't, then it's unlikely you're going to get any value from his inferior hands. There are only four hands in his range that you are beating, and you have some decent showdown value, so you might as well get to the river cheaply, maybe value betting on the end to get him to call with one of these hands.

i would have checked the flop so you could see where he is at and then maybe put a bet in on the turn after seeing how he reacted to you're check on the flop.
