Title: say no to 0845 and 0870 calls
Post by: The-Crow on September 03, 2008, 01:36:51 AM
Ok , Did you know that 0845 and 0870 cost loads of cash (7p a minute for me)

Radio 2 keep telling listeners to go to" saynoto0870.com "

I tried it and sure enough every 0845 or 0870 number has a local code and number.
I rang British gas and Natwest today at local rate (thats free for me on Sky talk)

Every little helps (Tescrows)

These numbers are a pet hate of mine, and I use that site a lot.  Bloody annoying when you get free minutes to landlines and mobiles, but a bank or call centre number is 0845 or 0870 (or even 0800).

I use an 0845 number for my business. It's cheap for my customers coz it's local rate and it gives my business a national identity. Problem is that lots of people are suspicious of 08 anything numbers. 0845's are fine, it's the 0870s that are the rip off.

Calls to an 0845 number from a standard BT landline line cost the caller:
3.36ppm (peak)
1.26ppm (evening)
0.85ppm (weekend)

but most people nowadays have a package where they can make national calls for free at certain times of the day, so how is it cheaper?!

People pay often between £10 & £30 per month on phone call packages. Often folk have lots of 'wasted' minutes each month costing them money on calls they haven't made. A 10 minute call to me in the evening costs £0.13. If all your calls were as cheap as this you wouldn't need a call package.

Also, depending on your provider, some companies allow 0845 numbers within your free minutes package. T-mobile does.
