Title: Facebook warning - "worm" alert!
Post by: tikay on September 03, 2008, 06:05:54 PM
Luckily, I don't open Facebook shite, but I know I've been "attacked" today, as have many others, by a "worm".

It's embedded in an Inbox "Message", within a YouTube Video. The video includes the word "Wow", & refers to "is that you in this video?".

It was sent to Chili, & she opened it. Within minutes, her PC was "auto-sending" e-Mails & the sussy vid Message to all her "Friends". Luckily, Kinboshi helped out by sending out warning messages.

I've just been on Facebook, & I see Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1689) Berridge (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1689) has suffered the same problem.

The original Message (to Chili) came from Raj, but of course, he may have equally been "wormed".

I got the "worm Vid" from Chili at 12.41 today - & I got the "Raj" version at 5.13pm.

Be careful!

For once, Kendall's right.

There's a worm/virus called 'koobface' (more here about it:  http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_148955.htm (http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_148955.htm) ) that spreads via Facebook or Myspace.

I don't think it can infect your machine just by clicking on the link when you receive a message (like the one Kendall mentioned), but I think it's when you click through and it asks you to download a codec or something similar to view a video/image, etc.

So, if you haven't done that, I think you'll be fine.  Best bet is to make sure you have an up-to-date anti-virus program on your computer, and if you have clicked through on one of these links, it might be worth doing a full scan of your computer to check for infections.

Here ends the public information broadcast.

it's been around for a few weeks - I've had similar messages purporting to come from several friends - all slightly different but all linking to what is claimed to be a video with me in it - got the one from Maria today too.

Maria advised me to simply "Delete" the Message without opening it.

I got it from a friend in America last week, but deleted without clicking the link because it seemed odd coming from that particular person.

Thought this was going to be a "Mickey Wernick has joined Facebook thread". How disappointing!

Yeh had this on the weekend from around 5 friends.

AVG picked it up and healed it though, easy.

Yes ridiculously annoying. I did click the link like a fool which is something I hardly ever do, but first it came from a friend and second it was in my inbox as a personal message.  The virus then, as well sending the link to all my friends, it kept opening tab after tab after tab in the browser.

Same as Kingpoker, AVG got rid of it. No massive drama, just pah!
