Title: Womblecam 2: The Rock Strikes Back
Post by: AlrightJack on September 04, 2008, 08:07:32 PM
Back, by popular demand, a thread entirely devoted to the pass and fold antics of the one known simply as Womble.

Two years ago this thread went down a storm when at the EPT in Dortmund Womble managed to fold his way almost to the prize money. Close, but no cigar. This time around we're at the GUKPT in Bolton and our intrepid hero is the chip leader after five hours of play.  The final table must be almost within his grasp now.

Go Wombledinho!

And here is our plucky hero just moments after folding for the umpteenth time. However, don't be deceived by the blank expression on his face. He may appear to be the victim of a sudden lobotomy, but beneath that perhaps gormless exterior lies one of the game's greatest minds, and one that is intensely calculating the exact moment to strike.

At the moment, Womble has 31,500.

gormless exterior- hehe womblecam with snoops is gonna be fun

he has perfected the art of folding- he has so many different ways of tossing his cards into the muck. Watch for his speciality " the back hand spinning flick with his left hand" has a difficulty rating of 7.4 (only 5.3 if done with right hand)

Womble goes to make a raise, but decides instead to just stretch his arm and passes. 3 people behind him accidentally fold in sheer terror at the mere possibility of a raise.

News from the Wimbledon front...

I've just spoken to Womble and he chuckled at the news of this thread's return, but said that things are a bit different this time, compared to in Germany. Obviously he didn't want to give too much away about his strategy, as I was talking to him at this table, but he did give a quote for all his adoring fans out there in internets land.

"I've got more chips now than I usually do when I make final tables, so it's looking good"

"this" hand?

If you are only going to update this thread when he actually plays a pot it may not be a very long thread lol. He could make the final and all everyone will be doing is looking for more folding puns.

I did manage to grab a word with our hero during my last outing, and he was as surprised as me to see his stack had somehow leapt up to the 36,000 mark. Although I was suspicious, he assured me that he had been moving and shaking. "It doesn't matter if nobody believes me," he said confidently. "I've got the chips, and that's all that matters."

With this newfound self esteem on full display, I thought I'd hang around and watch the supposed maniac in action. However, to my dismay, what I was treated to was a showcase in folding and more passing than an episode of Mastermind starring Ariston. After ten consecutive folds, I decided to give up on my mission to see him play one of these many hands he claims to have participated in, and returned to my initial suspicion that he had stolen 26,000 off a neighbouring opponent.

"Slow slowly catchy monkey," he concluded, although I fear this must be the quickest monkey in the world.

Whilst they were on the break, I caught Womble mumbling the words 'pass' and 'fold' under his breath, much like Dustin Hoffman in Rainman. I'm not suggesting that Womble is as mentally deranged as the film character, but he does appear to have developed an unusual form of tourett's.

on a serious not I remember the first time we went to vegas many moons ago and sat in a cash game. A standard american tourist raised round the back with womble reraising from the button. the yank stated he was obviously making a move and reraised allin sigh. Womble made a brave call with unsuited aces and the american reloaded. About 17 hours later womble played his next hand again reraising the american- the american says he knows for sure he is trying it on this time and again pushes and states how unlucky he is to have walked into aces again when he is snap called.

moral of the story- when a rock reraises you and you dont have the nuts, he does.

The action folds round to Womble in the cut off. He looks down at his cards, and glances over at his opponents in the blinds. He may be contemplating a raise, perhaps with nothing. Surely he's not going to nick the blinds?! Hes poised and ready for action, he seems to be reaching for chips!...

I'm yet to witness Womble play a hand since Womblecam commenced, but we can't expect too much from someone so engulfed by the spotlight. I did at least see a hand where he had chips invested. With Womble's 600 big blind patiently waiting to be plucked from the felt, the action folded around to Sam Trickett on the button who gallantly chose to take a stab by bumping it up to 2,000. The small blind folded, and so did Womble.

Sam Trickett showed a bullet and pondered, "What am I supposed to do with that?"

"Well, that's what they say, but I'm not convinced," replied Womble, clearly believing that Sam should have folded his ace preflop.

Then, out of nowhere, Womble added, "If I'd had 4-5 or 7-3 I would have played."

The table looked on in shock, unbelieving of what they had just heard and clearly concerned about Womble's current mental health.

The board reads Ks 8h 7h and Womble checks, Rob Sherwood bets 3.5k and Womble now makes 8.5k. But Rob Sherwood moves all-in. A deep sigh from the Womble and eventually he says, "Ok, I'll give you credit for a set of eights" and passes.

I think Rob has to have Quad Kings with a Royal Flush redraw minimum here to make this move...

The board reads Ks 8h 7h and Womble checks, Rob (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=382) Sherwood (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=382) bets 3.5k and Womble now makes 8.5k. But Rob (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=382) Sherwood (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=382) moves all-in. It has been revealed that Rob Sherwood had pocket deuces in this hand.

"See what happens when I play a hand," argued Womble.

Lynne Beaumont raises it up to 2,500 preflop, only for Womble to push all in from the big blind. Lynne folds and Womble takes it down. As he rakes in the chips, balloons are released from the rafters and a marching band storms into the casino in celebration of Womble's play. The whole cardroom stops the hand they are playing, rise from their seat and applaud Womble who can do nothing but bask in the glory and shake the endless succession of congratulating hands. Womble, not just my hero, but the people's hero.

Here's Womble adding those crucial chips to his stack.

Finally, it's Wombletime baby!!

Having been re-raised off a couple of hands, Womble ends up calling Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=334) Parker (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=334)'s all-in but his 9d 9h are marketly inferior to Parker's Qc Qd but the board peels off with a 9s the first card out, followed by 2s 7s ("Keep the spades coming" shouts Paul) 2c Ks. Parker is gone, but Womble remains. If it's any consolation, I think a ParkerCam should be our next step.

As a result of that spot of fortune, Womble now has 23,500. I expect he'll lock up now and try and fold his way to the final. I see no reason for him to go crazy.

Womble has avoided near disaster, not at the poker table, but within the surrounding areas. Just a few hands after his virtual double up, Womble uncharacteristically rose from his seat to stretch his arms, but when he took a couple of steps backwards, he bumped straight into the waitress who was holding a tray. Fortunately for Womble, the waitress balanced her array of drinks with the composure of a champion plate spinner and successfully kept all vessels upright. Rumour has it that there was some slight spillage, and I can confirm that Womble did release a very feminine yelp as his back hit the tray, but no damage was done and play has been allowed to continue. Most importantly, however, our hero has come away unharmed. Next time, we may not be so lucky.

Title: Re: Womblecam 2: The Rock Strikes Back
Post by: snoopy1239 on September 05, 2008, 12:04:56 AM
With Ali Mallu limping in mid position, Womble seizes his opportunity to play a hand and makes up the small blind. Rob Sherwood checks his option. On the 4s 2d 5c flop, Womble and Rob both check, only for Ali to lead out for 2,000. Naturally, Womble fol... no, hold on, what's this?! Sweet Jesus of Nazareth, he's reaching for chips!!! The crowd gasp as Womble makes it 5,000 in total. Clearly perplexed by this shocking development, Ali sizes up his unbreakable opponent before coming to the realisation that he can do nothing but concede the hand. Womble now up to 25,500.

Title: Re: Womblecam 2: The Rock Strikes Back
Post by: snoopy1239 on September 05, 2008, 12:06:24 AM
Moments later, Womble gives back a couple of thousand. Paul Gourlay raised it up preflop and Womble called, but swiftly gave it up when the Rocketman pushed on the 7d 7h 9s flop. Womble really should tighten up, he's playing like a man possessed!

Over the last few hours, there have been some shocking updates regarding Womble. Apparently, there are two of them! The chap pictured below in the turquoise shirt is also called Stephen Walmsley, yet he looks nothing like Stephen Walsmley. Although we initially suspected an inpsoter had breached the GUKPT ranks in order to steal the limelight from the real Stephen Walmsley, our best detectives have been on the case and confirmed that he is indeed called Stephen Walmsley. Whether he can fold as well as the original Womble, only time will tell...

Eager to find out if today's Stephen Walmsley was as skilled as Womble in the art of folding, I decided to observe the action from the rail for a round.

As Stephen folded hand after hand, I quickly began to realise that Womble 2 wasn't a visitor from a parallel universe, or the anti-Womble that Jonathan Raab had suggested, but more an echo, or homage of the tight, rocky, scared-to-throw-in-an-ante Womble that we've all come to love.

Of course, this was only a small sample, but the real question was... Is Womble 2 tighter than Womble 1? Is it truly possible? I decided to wait until Womble 2 was on the big blind before even attempting to make such an assumption.

As the action folded round to Marty Wilson, the Mad one made a standard preflop raise. I held my breath as play reached Womble 2. He paused momentarily, looked down at his chips... is he going to make a move?!?! And then folded...

Jonathan Raab has confirmed that if both Stephen Walmsleys make it through to day two, he will conduct a video interview with the two players.

LOL LOL. Has this guy any idea he is being stalked by Snoopy and that he has a whole thread dedicated to him?

For those hoping for a Stephen Walmsley squared interview tomorrow, or, dare I say it, a Walmsley/Walmsley heads up (gulp), the dream is sadly over. After witnessing three players limp before him, Stephen decided to push from the big blind for 3,600 with Ac Jd. Hesitant at first, initial limper Andreas Mihail weighed up his options before opting for the call with 5h 5c. After the remaining two players had side-stepped out of the way, the board came an uneventful 8s 9s 9h 9d 4h to send Stephen home. I guess some Stephen Walmsleys know when to fold, and others don't.

Our hopes and dreams now lie solely on the shoulders of the original Stephen Walmsley, Sir Womble.

I was sat next to the imposter Stephen Walmsley (before my dreadful exit) and can confirm that in fact he did play several hands.  ;D

Although short-stacked, and followed by millions... and millions of viewers back home, our plucky hero has yet to arrive. Naturally, he would have just folded his way through the first level anyhow, but we can't help but remain concerned about his current whereabouts. Maybe he's still folding his jim-jams, or perhaps he passed the bus stop by mistake, but either way, he needs to get himself down here, and pronto.

When will he arrive? A nation holds it's breath...

Save Womble!

"It just doesn't look like he's going to arrive," weeped a dejected Jonathan Raab.

"Jonathan," I replied, "I think the dream is over."

"Hey, hold on," continued Jonathan as the front door shuddered, "what's this?"

And then it happened. Like a scene from Chariot's of Fire, in he strode. My world span round momentarily and everything moved in slow-motion as my hero entered the arena. As the shadowy figure approached, the spring in his step and the twinkle in his eye confirmed that this was Womble, he'd finally arrived, and boy did he look hungry.

Jonathan and I looked at one another, a renewed hope electrifying our bodies. The dream was alive!

"Run!" I pleaded, "Run!".

As Womble took his seat, he looked at his opponents, and with the cool of Clint Eastwood in a shootout at dawn, simply said, "I never rush anything."

So far Womble has done more beautifully controlled passing than the 1970's Brazilian Football Team.

Stephen Walmsley has been a busy bee of late. According to my source, he was all in not too long ago. "I jammed with a marginal hand," confessed Womble. "He had A-K," added Alan Vinnicombe. Pause. "As I said, a marginal hand."

As Womble folds his big blind to a preflop raise (standard), I continue to loiter patiently to see if he will be presented with the opportunity to limp from the small blind. After the button limps, Womble does indeed make up the blind and Mohammed Shoahebe checks his option. On a Js Kd 9h flop, I sensed Womble was itching to lead out, but in the end he opted for a check, as did Mohammed, which allowed the button to take a stab with a bet of 2,000. Womble twitching in his seat momentarily before doing the wise thing and folding, before Mohammed popped in a reraise to take the pot. Wondering if Womble was contemplating a move, I tapped him on the shoulder: "It's too early to get excited," he replied.

In a remarkable turn of events, Womble has seen two flops within one level. After Terry Owens raised it up to 3,000 preflop, Womble called from the small blind, and so did Mohammed Shoahebe in the big. As a nine high flop hit the felt, Womble made a deep reach and pushed all in. The crowd held their breath. Although Mohammed quickly folded, Terry paused briefly before realising that his middle set was behind and making the correct fold. Womble survives!

Womble is OUT. A J-8-x flop, Womble holding Queens against Terrence Owen's T-9 and the rivered set our hero didn't want to see.

A nation mourns.

But Womble will return!!!

He may be out, but here is the video of Womble's belated arrival at the casino today. Something for all the womblefans out there in cyberspace. He told me that he intended to 'fold with panache' today. It's just a shame that we were not able to witness it for too long.

Long Live the Tory Boy from Wimbledon Common!
