Title: Limit Poker, Should I bet the river?
Post by: Graham C on September 13, 2008, 12:30:10 AM
I seem to get in a lot of situations like this where's the obviously not the best board for my Jacks, but on the other hand, it's just been a festival of calling as limit tends to be.

Generally, is there any value in betting the river when it's checked round to me for the 3rd time?

As you're last to act, a lot of players would lead out the river with an 8. A Queen probably pops you on the turn, so a value bet would be good here...

However, I think because it's 4-way a check is okay, especially as 8 is a viable card for the check-call-down-fest.

Agree, i bet because no-one is passing a ten by this stage but yeah sometimes you lose a bet when they have called down an 8.

3 way this would be criminal to check, 4 way its not so bad

I think betting the river is the way to go even 4 handed. In limit holdem I keep pounding until someone gives me a reason not to and the way the hand played out your Jacks are good and you can bet for value on the river expecting a call from a Ten or lower PP.
